I just finished watching E+J and C+K back to back. The difference in the qua!ity of the vlogs was, to quote Ellie, "stunning." I never really thought of Jared as a slouch or lacking in creativity or work ethic, but I also never really compared his vlogs to any others. Generally I think of Ellie as being the real problem in that family, and I still do...
But I am for the first time noticing how much effort Cullen puts into editing as compared to Jared. I'm sure that translates to a substantial time commitment as well. You guys probably all noticed this a long time ago!
Anyway, I'd be feeling pretty awkward right about now if I were Jared. Love him or hate him, Bryan is a "musician" and can set scenes in his vlogs to music that he wrote and performed himself. I mean, it's not good music, but certainly some effort is involved and he seems sincere enough about it. Cullen is goofy-silly but on-point with the editing these days, and he's using clips and music that I assume everyone in their circle has (or can buy) access to.
Jared is using the most basic music out there for their "theme" and all background - like basic vlogging 101 "I just bought a camera, which iMovies song best represents me?" The new intro that took months to finish is nothing special, and leaned heavily on that unfortunate photo shoot. In terms of animation... Yesterday his brother Matt (whose videos rarely get 1/10th of E+Js views) casually included exploding rocks in a vlog, no hype, no big deal.
And they've just bought that Barbie Dream House, and it's not like he has a trust fund or an established career or a wife who can speak in complete sentences to fall back on.
If Jared's not feeling the pressure, then he must be delusional.
In any case, the vlog Cullen put together for today, with the pumpkin patch visit and throwback footage of MG from her visit to the same place last year, is IMO a great example of vlogging done right.
PS - my auto correct turns vlogging into 'flogging' every. single. time.
I agree that Cullen takes editing seriously. Like or hate the whole 365 days of Target balling, it required a lot of effort and commitment to complete. Jared used to put a lot of effort in, then Cal was born and YT was no longer taken seriously. Ellie made it clear she was a stay at home mom and because she needs Jared so much, that pretty much meant he had less time to concentrate on YT. Plus it came out that most of the "style" Jared was being praised for was actually inspired (ripped off) from Casey Neistat anyway. That said, he's capable of making a beautiful/heartfelt vid when he's willing and able to put the effort in. The vlog for Jackson's first birthday is still one of the most beautiful ones I've ever seen. It's a shame how far they've fallen.
Pre- daily vlogs, Cullen and Katie both had full time careers and were already set for the future. E&J and B&M all had basically little to no plan or way to support a family Kong/term. I think the laziness we see from E&J and B&M was always there, and that's why they were basically looking for "easy money," whereas K&C just sort of fell into it.
CK take Gaines to Build-A-Bear for giving away the paci's, then EJ take Jackson and Calvin because they are moving. DB does something, EJ do the same thing or EJ do it first, then DB follow. There have been times in the past when all 3 of their vlogs have almost the same type of thumbnail (same look to them) and almost the exact title with them each doing the same thing. I think those times have been planned. It's too weird of a coincidence that they each happened to do that exact thing on the same day.
