I'm probably one of the few people here that could care less about product placement. Sponserships are a little different, but if it's in the background somewhere I don't care.

When people feel the need to reply/acknowledge the spam posts. Seriously, just ignore it and continue with the gossip.

Those posts are more annoying than the spam.

We KNOW it's frustrating! We're trying!

So if it's more annoying to say you guys are trying to block it, I'll stop. I thought maybe by saying you guys were aware of it, I could help slow the flow to your inbox. None of my business, I know. Just trying to help.

When people feel the need to discuss how things work in their country. We don't need two pages discussing the differences in laws, healthcare, education, etc.

It's "definitely" not spelled "defiantly."

All the talk about Calvins development, it's a broken record at this point... It's been talked about so many times, and it has been stated every time that Calvin is fine developmentally... Yet the conversation comes up every couple of days.

Pretty much every YouTube kid is talked about with their development. Kids are so broad ranging in development and people tend to brag. I don't understand why *insert YouTube child* doesn't say 500 words. My baby said EVERY word at that age. I don't think it's exclusive to Calvin though. I think people are just curious because of his obvious health issues.

Oh I know, it just gets annoying when every other day it's brought up despite it being said many times that despite his health issues - he's developing just fine.

I avoid comparing him or any child to my daughter because I am aware she has always been advanced. For me it's shocking to see some of these youtube kids because most of them seem so delayed in my eyes. But so do a lot of my friends kids. I've learned over time to just think "they aren't my kid" and remember that every child is different.

People need to realize that just because their kids were above or on par, it doesn't mean kids who are behind their kids are actually behind or delayed.

Also, it's important to remember that all kids have strengths and weaknesses. My daughters best friend is 6 months younger than her, and is severely speech delayed. But he can do things that she can't do, like zip up his jacket and run without looking like baby bambi.

I know this isn't really on topic. But I'm trying to change my user name and it's not showing up. Could someone tell me why I click on my own info and it shows my new name but not when I post? I'm clearly not a lurker anymore and haven't been for like a year lol.

Mods have to do it for you. PM me or one of the other mods what you'd like your new name to be and we'll change it :)

Kryptonite wrote:I don't want to cross post and carry this debate over here but I can understand wanting to discuss Calvin's development.

There are certain "developmental benchmarks" children at his age should hit at his age. Rather than debating them, I silently read them and think about them. Does this mean he is behind? Not necessarily. Could it mean he is behind? Maybe. I am not his physician.

I looked and looked and looked for my textbook from last year but am totally unable to find it. Luckily Medline Plus has outlined the same developmental benchmarks I had on my developmental milestones presentation for a nine month old. :) So I know these are correct.
A 9-month-old has usually reached the following milestones:

Gains weight at a slower rate, about 15 grams (half an ounce) per day, 1 pound per month
Increases in length by 1.5 centimeters (a little over one-half inch) per month
Bowel and bladder become more regular
Puts hands forward when the head is pointed to the ground (parachute reflex) to protect self from falling
Is able to crawl
Sits for long periods
Pulls self to standing position
Reaches for objects while sitting
Bangs objects together
Can grasp objects between the tip of the thumb and index finger
Feeds self with fingers
Throws or shakes objects
SENSORY AND COGNITIVE SKILLS

The 9-month-old typically:

Babbles
Has separation anxiety and may cling to parents
Is developing depth perception
Understands that objects continue to exist, even when they are not seen (object constancy)
Responds to simple commands
Responds to name
Understands the meaning of "no"
Imitates speech sounds
May be afraid of being left alone
Plays interactive games, such as peek-a-boo and pat-a-cake
Waves bye

7-9 MONTHS: http://www.beaumont.edu/childrens/healt ... -9-months/
Very interesting. I don't watch them enough to know if he's hitting these milestones, but it seems like he doesn't. He just seems like he just... lays... there.
