My annoyance came from her reasoning for opening the gift in front of the kids. She said she wanted them to "see how nice their daddy is to their mommy" and then blabbed on about how this is "how they (the boys) should treat their wives and how Olivia should expect to be treated." UM. Two things:
1) I hate the idea of a gift exchange being the evidence of their love in front of their children, and also the fact that she is blatantly implementing the concept that "this is how you should show love to people. Buy them things."
2) I also HATE how it's a "this is how husbands should treat wives" concept. I feel like a marriage should work both ways. It was annoying to see that "spoiled wife, happy life" concept being thrown at their children who are so, so, so young. It seems like an unhealthy ideology to be promoting. Yes, husbands SHOULD strive to make their wives happy and to give them love, support, and joy. But WIVES should be doing the EXACT SAME THING for their husbands.
Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh.

my husband is very modern young man who thinks this is disgusting the whole women serve the men and sexist roles. were very equal the way we treat each other. we never really do valentines gift, we would usually eat out. this year we didnt because we both needed to work because thats much more important that wasting time on something that is guilted to society to participate in. If we want things, we just buy them. we dont wait for something to get the hint to go buy it so we can pretend we don't know. we get things when we want to because thats the beauty of actually having a job and earning money.... you can spend it on what you like lol. we dont do christmas either same reason. but there whole thing was so one way it hurt to watch. specially when it was sooooo obvious that she specifically made a list of what she wanted on that day and where to get it, what size blah blah blah and then acted like omg, you didnt.... actually he did, because you asked him too. isnt that what he's for just like your role is to cook and please him in the bedroom once a month. get with the time granny.. its 2018 not some amish cult.
