JesssFam: Half a Dozen Kids for Half a Million Subs (Pt105)
Re: JesssFam: Half a Dozen Kids for Half a Million Subs (Pt1
I have 3 kids and we do the 'want, need, wear, read'. I never spend the exact same amount in each kid. I think a need gift can be something that supports a hobby. For example, my 7 year old loves gymnastics so she is getting a balance beam as her need gift, because she is constantly practicing at home. I think $2000 isn't unreasonable for 7 kids, including Santa gifts, except that we know Jess's kids don't take great care of their stuff, so idk how she expects things to last a whole year.
I also think most of Jess's kids are old enough to buy a gift for each other. My grandma sent my kids $20 each for Christmas, so we took that money and had each kid buy something for a sibling. They were so excited to wrap the gift and can't wait to watch their sibling open it. It teaches them a lot about the value of giving and I think it's a good prep for the fact that they probably won't be believing in Santa too much longer

I hope they DO get a few decent presents and not stupid bath sets or plastic crappy games like usual. 300 DOES seem a lot tho and does that include Ed????? Why does a 1 year old need loads of gifts?! She'll probably be happy with a cardboard box or a ball. I bet Lilia will get the most, wayyyyy more then the others, even Caden.
Re: JesssFam: Half a Dozen Kids for Half a Million Subs (Pt1
I think her budget is fine considering the amount of kids and age differences. I hope she didn't spend $300 on Addie though because that seems a little over the top for a one year old. Unless her "need" gift is more of something they need for her.
I only have a loose budget for Christmas. Like an over all $ amount we can spend but not everyones presents are equal in price. We usually go all out for Christmas, my parents did the same for us as kids too. It was the only time of the year we got gifts/big things we needed besides our birthday which was typically something small.

I think $300 is insane for 5 gifts. I have spent about $290 per child and that is a total of 12 gifts. Not crap gifts either. She kills me.

When I have kids, I'm definitely going to do the "want, need, wear, read" thing. My parents spoiled me and my sisters when we were younger, and some of the stuff they got for us were never really used.
I definitely think Jess should look into the kids buying gifts for their siblings. My elementary school had a sale where kids could buy presents for family members and friends for a very low price (between 25c and $1). It worked for us for years! Jess could easily take the kids to the dollar store or something.

I mean they're by no means spoiled brats but they are 4 and 7 and until now have gotten a 'normal' amount of toys every year. To suddenly have Christmas morning where you get a bunch of boring things your mom thinks you need (tbh I wouldn't give another adult a toothbrush or stationery unless they asked for it) like bedding and one toy...I can understand why they weren't like 'WOW thanks mom! A gift?? For meeee?!' because kids generally aren't like that. You can get them sensible things like wooden toys and bed sheets or you can get them a mountain of plastic crap that they'll be totally delighted by. It's a balance between the two imo.WheresMyCoffee wrote: Then your sister probably needs to teach her kids to be grateful, tbh. If my kid melted down over 1 present or 1,000 I would return them all.
I am glad she is doing this. e have been saying for yeeeaaars how she blows the $100 on dollar store, cheap shit that breaks within a week and she said that exact thing in the video. I would rather a kid get one quality toy than 5 cheap plastic things. I dont do a budget either, I dont want to buy mindless crap just to add up to the dollar amount I spent on my other child.
I am glad the kids will be getting a book as well, that's a rarity.\
The thing they need could be anything... outdoor toys? new bedding? Doesn't necessarily mean it wont be a toy or something exciting.

I don't like the something to wear and something you need thing. Parents buy their kids that stuff any way. Christmas gifts for kids should be about toys and treats.

The whole want wear need read thing for large families is because usually large families cannot afford to drop money on things all the time. So if a child wants a specific brand of shoes or whatever that would be a wear Christmas item. Most large families are shopping thrift store, trading hand me downs...so getting new shoes or new clothes is a gift. That's not the case for Jess' kids except the twins who seem to always look nearly homeless since they aren't allowed nice pants\shoes.

Agree, there needs to be a balance. Sometimes a few crappy plastic toys are the best things you get in your childhood. But piles and piles of it is pointless. Some decent toys/stationary/clothes should pad out the crappy plastic stuff IMO.luci417 wrote:I mean they're by no means spoiled brats but they are 4 and 7 and until now have gotten a 'normal' amount of toys every year. Idk I liked Jess's sit-down style budget video. *shrug*
She wasn't obnoxious, trying to outdo her five year old's for the camera's attention. For a mom who isn't always the most practical/reasonable, $2000 sounds like a practical budget for a family that large. I don't see anything wrong with spoiling your kids a bit on Christmas.
I liked Jess loads more in this video than I ever do in any of her vlogs. She didn't go on and on about nonsense - she got to the point, explained why she chose to do what she's doing, was realistic about not spending the same $ amount on each of her kids instead of pretending to be Miss Equality!!!!. It was the most organized we've ever seen her, lol.

I’m really looking forward to what she got for the kids, because as of right now her budget is way too much considering what she has bought them these past Christmases. It’s always junk that I have never seen them use. Do they even play with toys? I feel like all they do is watch tv and play on the tablets.

I do that 'theme' with my son because it gives him some focus when it comes to thinking of what he may want for Christmas, rather than flipping through catalogs or just choosing a toy because he can. It's not so much about the budget for me, but I'm pretty frugal anyway and we NEVER buy toys for 'no reason' throughout the year. Also, it's not strictly one item for each category, at least I'm not strict about that. My kid needed mittens and boots (wear), a few hygiene items and a nightlight (need). He also got an easel w/ art supplies, a small playdpugh set, & a sweet age-appropriate indoor magnetic 'fishing set'. Plus, three books (read) and I baked his two fave treats (eat). So it's not necessarily one item per category. Sorry for rambling!!luci417 wrote:Isn''t the point of the 'want, need, wear, read' thing that they end up with a reasonable budget? I always thought the idea of getting your kid say, a new coat, one book, a backpack and one toy pretty stingy to be honestly because I wonder as a parent how your kid doesn't get disappointed unless they're totally unaffected by outside influences like toy stores, ads, and what their friends will get. It's a nice idea but from your kid's perspective don't they only get one thing they wanted?
tl;dr: I think a lot of people buy a couple of items for a few of the categories, so it's usually not only four gifts total.

Idk about Natalie tbh. She seems like a decent person, despite being a bit dumb for going out with deadbeat Drake and getting pregnant by him almost instantly. She works (no Mimi-type or YouTube support), didn't jump into marriage with Drake, didn't have any more kids since Airabella. She's not like Jess creating these 5-dimensial blended family messes. I'd wish her a nice future with a nice partner, and if they are able to afford it, a baby of their own should they want it.Highlighter wrote:Drake, Natalie and Jess need to keep their legs closed from now on though lmao

It's weird, but it doesn't affect me too much. my mom actually told me, the brother is from my dad though, and they are divorced. But apparently he had been planning to tell me for years but never did and he still hasn't told me so I have little hope that he will. I just wish he would be honest. It's funny I never told anyone except my husband but now I'm telling you on YTMD LOL!!LilaLavender wrote:How was that for you? I'd say since I saw these at Walmart, they'll get the sale $40 rc monster trucks. $80 and done lolDoodleBop wrote:She said it averages out to $300 per kid but I bet you anything the twins and Landen are going to get a lot less than the princesses and Chris' boys.
