Re: Bonnie Hoellein: No Ads Make Mama Mad | Part 14
Boston was getting up at night and going to the bathroom, and she said _she_ wasn't ready. If your child has enough awareness to get up at night and go, they're ready. It was even discussed here.
I am not saying that older siblings don't have to take any responsibility, but the way she phrased it, and the way she definitely encourages Olivia to be a "little mother" is bothersome to me. She's not _that_ much older than Cody. My daughter is two years older than my son, and she didn't "have to work hard". Of course she took on more responsibility before he did, but I would never have said she had to work hard. Maybe it's just semantics, but to me it's more of the reinforcement of gender roles in that family. If Olivia was a boy, I wonder if they would still expect that. Would they expect him to be a "little father" to his siblings? I doubt it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think he would be encouraged to be Joel's little helper and not be responsible for siblings.

Re: Bonnie Hoellein: No Ads Make Mama Mad | Part 14
We don’t see Olivia raising her brothers in the vlogs. She has friends over, and tons of playtime.
I think she’s fine.

I agree that Olivia is fine. Other than YT, she seems to have a normal and boring childhood. I don't see her slaving away to care for her brothers at all. It's like people expect Bonnie and Joel to buy Olivia a truck in order to prove something? The gender roles are there in the background, but we've definitely seen that they encourage their children to do what they like. I think people are looking for the mom role to be pushes on Olivia more than it actually is. She likes her dolls, and is a nurturer to her brothers because she is the oldest. I was a total cow to my younger siblings and bossed them around all the time whether I was supposed to or not! We've seen this with Olivia time and time again.
Of all the YT kids, I would say Olivia is one of the luckiest. Stop trying to make her Cinderella when she just isn't.

Ok, but you've said many times your daughter is special needs right? Plus you were a single mom. I'm sure if you asked your son if he felt sometimes had to work hard his answer might surprise you.lmmomSD wrote:Boston was getting up at night and going to the bathroom, and she said _she_ wasn't ready. I don't think Bonnie acknowledging Olivia is a bad thing at all. The comment was made to recognize Ruby, and maybe in doing so, she can make sure that things are a little lighter for Olivia than what she saw her sister go through. Especially if she isn't the biggest Ruby fan as people have speculated!

Maybe it's just the semantics. My oldest sister definitely thinks she worked harder than me! She'll tell anyone.

Interesting perspective from a commenter on Bonnie's parenting of Olivia:

Re: Bonnie Hoellein: No Ads Make Mama Mad | Part 14
I don't like this comment. Is it against the rules to comment here on YT comments? Anyway, I don't like the way Bonnie was complaining about the hair, just because I think it was probably unnecessary for the hairdresser (if she was watching) to have to deal with that kind of crap, but I don't think that it had anything to do with teaching Olivia self-loathing or whatever. I am very sensitive to parents self-depricating and having it rub off on their kids, but this just wasn't that. Bonnie was upset about the way her hair was dyed, not about something she couldn't control. While it may not have been the way I'd want to model disappointment to my daughter, I think she handled it fine with Olivia. The commenter who said Olivia is now developing the 'thick body type' like Bonnie is making it WAY worse. Ugh.KayCeeee wrote:Interesting perspective from a commenter on Bonnie's parenting of Olivia:

She read here about going dark and she did it. It is a tad bit dark and I know she said something at the salon. Which is why there was no footage of her getting her hair done. I bet she went complete psycho on that hair dresser!! But really a few washes and when her make up is all done it won't be that back.

Re: Bonnie Hoellein: No Ads Make Mama Mad | Part 14
She rarely vlogs at her color appointments, do not doing so means nothing. It would have been rude to do so anyway. I bet she returns to the same salon. She was saying she hated the darkness if the color, but never said the stylist didn’t give her what she asked for. I doubt she went psychoKaylor1 wrote:She read here about going dark and she did it. Re: Bonnie Hoellein: No Ads Make Mama Mad | Part 14
I kinda see what the commenter was saying. I don't think that her complaining about hair color equates to teaching Olivia self-loathing. But our daughters do listen when we talk, and when we put ourselves down, or say how fat we are, they believe we believe it, and can internalize it. Bonnie has been open about her struggles with accepting herself as she is. And I think Olivia has also heard her saying that she knows she _should_ accept herself. I can imagine with a skinny mom like Jennifer who gushes over how tiny Ellie is, Bonnie has her own messages from Mom to overcome. Having Joel be so vocal about how beautiful he thinks she is is good for both her and Olivia.

Re: Bonnie Hoellein: No Ads Make Mama Mad | Part 14
But she wasn't saying she was fat or ugly or anything, was she? She just didn't like the look of the dark hair, I thought. Maybe I missed something. Yes, I agree that it's not a great idea to obsess over looks in front of your child (for context I don't ever even wear makeup) but this just wasn't that in my opinion. And then the commenter making the comment about Olivia's thickness just kind of defeated the purpose. Sorry, for some reason I find this really upsetting. Not sure quite why...lmmomSD wrote:I kinda see what the commenter was saying. I don't think that her complaining about hair color equates to teaching Olivia self-loathing. No I dont think she would video herself complaining to the actual person unlike Ellie and the Walmart incident buy I absolutely think she made it known to the hairdresser she wasn't happy

Re: Bonnie Hoellein: No Ads Make Mama Mad | Part 14
Isn’t Bonnie a hairdresser? I would think she would have picked the shade from the swatches...When I go to my hairdresser I pick out the exact shade I want and I tell the hair dresser that my hair takes to dye really well so I always pick a colour a tad lighter... idk sometimes hair dye just soaks in really well so i do feel bad for the hairdresser if she watches the vlog.

Check out Charity on Parsnips and Parsimony for Cinderella treatment.PinkFrog wrote: Of all the YT kids, I would say Olivia is one of the luckiest. Stop trying to make her Cinderella when she just isn't.

Ok-- this is getting ridiculous. Does she not see that she is rewarding the behavior?

She said herself “he’s going to do it whether we laugh or not” (which I don’t agree with) but she doesn’t think her reaction is part of the problem.

What do yoyo guys think of her hair? Doesn't Aynsley Ovard usually do it... I wonder if she went with someone different or of it was her who did it too dark.

I think it’s a bit dark. She just needs some highlights to add back some dimension. Even Joel didn’t seem sure about it.YouTubeIdiots101 wrote:What do yoyo guys think of her hair? Then again, my hair is usually light blonde, but if my stylist does it even a medium blonde I feel like it’s really dark. You tend to get used to looking at yourself and I think once she got the Wednesday Addams idea in her head, that’s all she’s see!

Re: Bonnie Hoellein: No Ads Make Mama Mad | Part 14
I think her hair is a bit harsh. But give it a few washes and it’ll fade enough that it’s fine. If she really hates it she can go get highlights in a few weeks.
