I don't think Lincoln is delayed, and pretty sure most of us think that way too. He is just not being encouraged to advance by being babied. He kind of reminds me of Calvin... It's difficult to remember he's his actual age because he is treated as if he was much younger.

Re: Bonnie and Joel: This Old House - Part 6
Bingo. At least personally, none of my commentary was meant to imply he was "delayed." That's a strong word, associated with medical conditions. I actually think Lincoln is a beautiful healthy baby, bursting with life and curiosity and a mischievous spirit like Boston's. He has unfortunately been living in a construction zone for the last several months, or 1/3 of his life, and was probably swaddled too long. I don't think he eats or sleeps like a 1 year old, but if all that were different and he was being engaged and enjoying enriching activities, I do think he would be ahead of where he is now.boredmamaneedsdrama wrote:I don't think Lincoln is delayed, and pretty sure most of us think that way too. That is absolutely not meant to judge anyone else whose baby hits milestones at different times. But we do see enough of Lincoln and what goes on in his life to side-eye Bonnie for this. And I'm generally a fan of hers.

Exactly! What I was trying to say just didn't quite come out rightboredmamaneedsdrama wrote:I don't think Lincoln is delayed, and pretty sure most of us think that way too. I don't get why Bonnie and Ellie swaddle their babies so long.

I don't get it either. Most people I've known stopped swaddling their babies after they can roll.lmmomSD wrote:I don't get why Bonnie and Ellie swaddle their babies so long.

Either because that's how Jennifer did it or because they think it's cute. They have both admitted literally a million times to being obsessed with their babys' bodies and what's cuter than a sleeping baby all swaddled up in a blanket. I'm sure the point is solely because it's cute too look at for them, not for their baby's comfort or wellbeing.CanYouJustNot wrote:I don't get it either. Bonnie is also a big proponent and user of Babywise and has said she follows a lot of it very closely. I researched a bit in to it when she made a video about it way back and I wouldn't be surprised if that book said to swaddle your baby until that age and suggested feeding the baby as she does. I know it's a very controversial book so I won't get all in to that but it definitely seems behind the modern research and recommendations we have now in a lot of areas. Just the other day someone in the comments asked how they sleep trained Lincoln and she said she follows Babywise. She also went on about Lincolns first food being (I think bananas) a fruit and how she knows vegetables are recommended to be given first but she's sticking with a fruit because she's done that for all her babies. She definitely seems very stuck in her ways.

My middle daughter wouldn't sleep or nurse while tired without swaddling until she was 9 months. She has sensory issues even now, so I'm not sure if that caused some of the reasons she wanted that comfort? She started crawling before 6 months and walking at 9.5 months.

Cool completely useless and unrelated story that no one wanted or asked for, bronotyomama wrote:My middle daughter wouldn't sleep or nurse while tired without swaddling until she was 9 months. Does babywise do that blanket time thing? Was it her that did a vlog on it?liz749 wrote:Either because that's how Jennifer did it or because they think it's cute. Did they really take all 5 of them on one quad? Helmets on B and C but nothing for Link? How did that even work? Joel driving with Link strapped to his chest, Bonnie behind him holding 2 boys? What. The. Hell.

Re: Bonnie and Joel: This Old House - Part 6
Bonnie did a video on blanket training. I don't think it's actually in the Babywise book, but from another... Something along the lines of To Train Up A Child. Officially it involves hitting babies for getting off the blanket, but it's a pretty old book, I think Bonnie just puts them back on the blanket.

She didn't record it for a reason. It would be controversialnutbagmcgee wrote:Did they really take all 5 of them on one quad? Helmets on B and C but nothing for Link? How did that even work? Joel driving with Link strapped to his chest, Bonnie behind him holding 2 boys? What. The. Hell.

The kids in the trailer with all the debris from the tree being cut down seems a bit risky with no shoes on.marjg wrote:She didn't record it for a reason. Since I can't quote Bonnie has mentioned in a vlog before that she follows baby wise to a T.

Re: Bonnie and Joel: This Old House - Part 6
Cody should still be in a 5 point harness car seat based on his size & surprise surprise he wasn't even buckled up at the end of the video! I couldn't even see a booster seat, not like it would do any good without a seat belt anyways. ugh...
Re: Bonnie and Joel: This Old House - Part 6
I JUST CAME TO SAY THAT. Based on size he should be harnessed, but they didn't even give the kid a booster seat, let alone a fucking seat belt!!
At first I was a bit disturbed because Boston's strap appeared to be twisted, but then it got SO much worse.

Ugh just watched, I understand you get distracted with 4 kids, but how hard is it to make sure they are all buckled in?

Does anyone else think her eyebrows looked fine? They match her hair for Pete's sake!
Completely agree about the car seats, btw. I don't understand how this is ok!

Re: Bonnie and Joel: This Old House - Part 6
It didn't look like Bonnie was buckled up herself either. Both her and Cody would have went flying through the windshield had they been in a crash. I don't see how a mother could just go on knowing her kid isn't buckled safely..but it happens all the time. I work in an ER, we had a case this summer where a mini van was in a crash and no one was restrained. The father/driver died on impact and the mother was found curled up under the front dashboard and was paralyzed from the waist down. The first responders didn't realize there was a 2 year old child in the car until they removed the mother and found him also squished under the dashboard, dead. It was a horrific day at work for everyone and something I know many of us will not forget for a very long time. It really grinds my gears to know that parents are out their endangering their children and themselves like this. Just the other day Joel was in a fender bender. They are not immune from accidents!! And they are always making long high way drives, increasing their likelihood for accidents. I can't overlook this one for Bonnie, it's not right no matter which way you slice it.
