Do you think Ellie spoke about Calvin's condition in today's video after people commenting about how she was nowhere to be found yesterday when talking about Calvin's procedure. I think so.

Oh man. So I watched the planner video. First observation was Ellie looked much happier than she ever seems to be in the daily vlogs, like maybe she took a shower and a Valium. Second observation is all those planners looked pristine and minimally used. It seemed more aspirational than anything. At least Bonnie kept it real. Final observation is that Ruby is a complete nutcase!!! She can't dance! And she forgets to pick her kids up, so whatever she's doing is not terribly effective.

I'm not judging them for failing to actually use the planners. I can't even tell you how many times I have tried to turn over a new leaf by way of overspending at Office Depot! I really like the *idea* of having my shit together and using planners as intended, but I have yet to actually succeed in doing so.

It just rings false. IDK, maybe I'm jaded and an asshole and they really all make extensive use of the planners.

So they never actually said what Calvin specifically got done but is it safe to say it was botox? Ellie just said it was to make his muscles more malleable or something like that.

I do. I think the last two vlogs were some of their best. You have a calmer Jared who if he is like his parents would be wonderful since they are great and Ellie who explained what happen or the procedure. They also took the recommendation from the surgeon to see another physician which is a positive. I think Calvin's outcome is much improved with the plan described today and I believe their viewers are supportive. I am surprised how they acknowledgedo being on YouTube there is a learning curve, but good for them. I also think their numbers or subscribers and views has slowed down so Jared is reevaluating what they are doing good and could improve. I don't think vlogging is easy all the time.

If Jared just stayed less goofy he appears so much more mature and he is capable of doing this as seen the last couple of days. Sure it is good to clown around, but it needs to be less.

It seems to have been something non invasive like that bc of how he was acting and how he looked afterwards in Ellie's IG post. (no bandages, moving his neck freely) I just wonder bc knowing E&J we wont know at all what they are doing or what the procedure actually did.
I doubt you would need nothing to eat and drink for botox so I am not sure. It appeared they put him asleep or sedated him with showing the mask so maybe I am wrong about the botox and they need to sedate kids to do this. I think at this point...perhaps Jared could explain what they did. It would be a teaching moment.
HashtagBlessed wrote:I agree with a previous poster who said that Ellie was avoiding addressing Calvin's torticosis because she somehow thinks it's shamful to have a medical condition. I also agree that Ellie and Jared disagreed on treatment, and Jared was the one who wanted to take Calvin to a physical therapist and had no problem doing the stretches on camera, etc. I think Ellie won the argument though and they did not start treat for him until very recently.

So to avoid arguments and tension they didn't talk about it in the vloggs. I think they have been getting treatment for a year but not pt until around his 1st birthday/check up with a doctor which they never filmed or talked about. I feel like Ellie is feeling very guilty for not getting the right treatment. So she doesn't want to talk about it.
It could be a physician deal too. I found it interesting they will be driving to the cities for care as recommended by the surgeon.

CatLady wrote:I hope they elaborate a bit more in todays vlog about the procedure Calvin had. Some here have mentioned it's probably botox which fits as I was so surprised to not even see a bandage on his neck after the procedure on Ellie's IG. I felt Jared still being rather cagey about the whole thing yesterday even while he was talking about it. I felt he acted a bit odd with how he explained it, like he seemed rather flippant when he mentioned the name of the condition like it was nothing at all as he seemed to shake his head like it's no big deal 'I don't know why I even have to discuss this like' kind of deal going on. Also when he said "good luck to Calvin, it's going to be good" maybe it's just me but that seems like an odd thing to say the day before your baby has to have anything medical done to them.
My spouse told me good luck before a surgery...I thought it was odd too.

I truly enjoy your assessment since it is what I am thinking. I actually think like Ellie says she has some anxiety. It would be good for her to learn how to manage this holistically. Ellie should look to Bonnie's vlogs and see her older sister who is easy for moms to relate to minus a few quirks. If I think back to the Ellie early on who had issues with infertility, she handled a lot of stress well.

I get a kick out of Ruby who is nuts doing so well on YouTube, but goodness I hope no one imitates her!

She actually used the word "malleable" in a sentence? Wow.

E+J: NEW HOUSE DRAMA DAILY - Part 16

Unread post by HelloSweetie »

Called it being Botox!

Botox is no big deal. It's an extremely minor procedure and it's used quite often in children with Cerebral Palsy as a treatment for their constriction. For Calvin it would have meant light sedation or general anesthetic and a quick (5-10 minute tops) procedure to inject the muscle and manipulate the medicine into it. Orthopaedic surgeons generally administer it under a general anaesthetic to children, so Cal would have needs to fast. I 100% believe they could/would have hidden the surgery had they not realized people were on to them.

Now that we've noticed the collar the risk is too high for it to be "spotted" again. They had to come out, and the procedure would make for some handy clickbait and extra views.

Glad he's getting help, but I'm sad for him that something as simple as Torticollis has been handled like an unsightly disfigurement by his parents. What if they had a child with a serious disability? Neither one is mentally equipped enough to handle a situation like that. They really shouldn't have any more children. That said, I'm glad they are taking the advice (supposedly) to go see a new physician. The one they currently have has made many questionable diagnoses based off nothing more than Ellie's "Googling" and gut feeling.

I like seeing the calmer side of Jared, but don't hold out a lot of hope for this being a permanent change. He follows Ellie's direction, and my guess is they will be back to portraying that perfect picture as soon as they move into that house. This won't last.

Maybe they didn't know if Calvin would be left with some obvious bruising or swelling, & actually erred on the side of caution & confessed about it?

If they have crappy insurance, getting a second opinion may have been difficult. There may be limited doctors of the type he needed/ultimately wound up seeing, & their insurance may have limited it more, leading to an extended waiting period to get the ball rolling in this direction.

(Kinda personal/OT, but relevant):
It once took me 14 months to get a couple lousy cortisone shots, & I'm insured by Blue Cross/Blue Shield. There's so much ridiculous red tape you have to cut through here in the US with these HMOs. They seem to force you to go the most conservative treatment route, before allowing you to move on.

I've been as disgusted with the way they've handled Calvin's neck issues as all of you.... However, when thinking back in my own life, I guess now I can somewhat understand why it's taken them so long to get to this point. All of this could have been avoided tho, had they not cut the line of communication with their viewers the way they did!

Oh, and according to Ruby there are 56 Saturdays in the year.

The problems haven't been with the specialist. The problems have been with the family doctor all this time. Calvin had mum stole checkups after he was born, and the doctor was never concerned with his neck.

They are making good money, and have taken countless vacations in the short time since he was born. I think if the problem was with their insurance, the they should have paid out of pocket for a second opinion. That would have made more sense than multiple Chiro and PT appointments that most likely aren't covered either.

Not being open with the viewers had nothing to do with Cal getting proper care in a timely manner. That effected the relationship we feel we have with them, but I believe he didn't start getting treatment regularly until just recently, and that's sad given that the Tort was obvious from the beginning and that most cases (when taken seriously) can rectified in the first 6 months.

What does everyone thing about the weird breathing episodes now? Are they separate or do we think it had to do with his neck too?

I don't think the breathing episodes were related to his torticollis. I believe this is the probable "diagnosis" the doctors would have ended up with based on their story.

I was trying to post a picture with info but Tapatalk won't let me Image

Look up: Brief Resolved Unexplained Event (BRUE) or check out this link
http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/c ... 1.full.pdf

It's actually a thing were some infants just stop breathing out of the blue with no apparent reason. I would say it's either this unexplainable event or was a reflux episode although the whole reflux thing with Calvin was a tad unclear as well so I'm leaning towards it being BRUE. Also, an article says that airway/maxillofacial anomalies are a risk factor for BRUE but I of course have no idea if his torticollis was bad enough to affect his airway or have anything to do with BRUE, they could be completely unrelated.

Anyways that's just my take on things after reading up about it.
