I don't think you need to correct every single thing a four year old says incorrectly. Especially if they have a speech delay like one of mine did(and possibly Kaden?) we were instructed to praise him for speaking no matter whether it sounded right or wrong! I promise they're not going to be saying "I heared it" in high school.
It's way more irritating to me that Jess talks in such a baby voice all the time, and her only response to the kids lately seems to be "awww" instead of actually having a back and forth conversation...

Can you not with the "do you have kids?" condescending shit. I may not have kids but I have you know, been around kids, been a kid, been an aunt, etc. So I understand that they grow up fast but thanks. Jess is baby obsessed as we all know.imapumkinseed wrote:Do you have kids? Maybe they inherited some money from Chris' dadCaptain Smooth wrote:They both earn money, so that's definitely helping, but I'm ready to bet money that either of their parents help out quite a lot.imapumkinseed wrote:Is it just me or does Jess seem to be spending a ton of money? The van, bedroom furniture and mattress, the baby haul, tons of Christmas decorations, new tree... I mean I have a decent full time job and I don't spend like she does. Either Chris makes more than I thought/assumed, or her YT money has been coming in more and more... or possibly they're way in debt, who knows.

sorry for being nitpicky, but 4 is not a toddler. Toddler refers to the stage when kids "toddle", like the way young children walk unsteadily.Blackswan wrote:Four IS a toddler.purplerain55 wrote:Long time lurker, first time poster.
I have to say it really bugs me hearing the kids use incorrect English and Jess just laughing about it. It's nothing hard, but today one of the twin's said 'I heared that' or something and she just shrugged it off instead of using that perfect opportunity to teach him something. He's four, not a toddler. He can certainly understand how to say 'heard' instead of 'heared'.

I agree with the above. Kids will learn how to speak properly from others and at school. Look at Britney and Vanessa, the way they speak leaves a lot to be desired but their kids are fine/will be fine.
I think Jess correcting them on their manners is a far more pressing issue. They won't get looked down on (at their age) for the way they speak, they will be for the way they behave.

Lol you've been a kid! So have I, what are the chances? I've also been an aunt, and worked with kids, and I'm just trying to convey my opinion that truly wanting time to pass more slowly so you can savor their babyhood is MUCH stronger when it's your baby. I am not being condescending in asking whether you're a parent. You are judging parents who say "slow down" to their newborn, so as one of the parents you're passing judgement on, I was wondering what perspective you had on the matter. That's all. Not saying you're not allowed to have an opinion.EleanorRigby wrote:Can you not with the "do you have kids?" condescending shit. Also, a pre-schooler is considered a child.Ripley wrote:sorry for being nitpicky, but 4 is not a toddler. Toddler refers to the stage when kids "toddle", like the way young children walk unsteadily.Blackswan wrote:Four IS a toddler.purplerain55 wrote:Long time lurker, first time poster.

Correcting their speech doesn't even have to be a big thing.. if he says "I heared it" say back to him "you heard it?" Or "I heard it too!" So they can hear the correct words without it being like no you're wrong this is the right word.. plus she can have an actual conversation with them instead of just replying awww!

Yeah I agree with you. At his age as long as you say it the right way back to him without correcting him it's not a huge deal. That doesn't even need to be done every time but it doesn't hurt or shame them.Maisie_Claire wrote:Correcting their speech doesn't even have to be a big thing.. if he says "I heared it" say back to him "you heard it?" Honestly one of my favorite parts of hearing a 3 or 4 year old speak is hearing them with their raspy voices mess up a word. It's just fun to see their language develop.
If he was going on 6 I'd think it'd be time to start actually correcting him, but even kids that age are gonna say words wrong. Tenses are huge part of the English language but to my knowledge it's you "past eat" when talking in many other languages. I could be wrong anyway that's part of the English language that takes a long time to develop.
Also I don't have kids, I've spend a lot of time around kids as well worked with them had my studies focused on development. Still I know there is a lot that I just don't know because I don't have kids. The slow down thing I would have thought was kind of silly too, but the way it was pointed out actually made me think "okay that makes sense". So yes there things that people without children are just not going to understand. It's gets annoying when people think I have zero knowledge of kids because I don't have them so there is a happy middle where us without kids are able to have an educated opinion but we also we need to understand that we can't know things in the same way. If that makes sense.

I used to always say "stop getting bigger!!" To my now 5 year old, then one day he said "I want to be a baby again to make you really happy!"
That made me feel horrible soo I never say it anymore. I don't think it's a good idea for jess to say it either given her obvious obsession & preference for babies

I always considered a toddler from ages 2-4/5? Eh.Ripley wrote:sorry for being nitpicky, but 4 is not a toddler. Toddler refers to the stage when kids "toddle", like the way young children walk unsteadily.Blackswan wrote:Four IS a toddler.purplerain55 wrote:Long time lurker, first time poster.

Re: Jessfam:RightMixOfStupidityAndLackOfContraceptives (Part
I usually class toddlers from the age they start walking until no later than they turn 2. I class 2-4 year olds as preschoolers tbh but I'm in the UK. I find it odd seeing 3 year olds though, I always assume they are geniuses hahaha. Our daughter is almost 3 and Autistic, with a much lower mental age so when I see a 2 year old running, climbing, talking, asking for things etc I assume they're out of the ordinary.
What bugs me though, is even though we have to treat our daughter like she actually *is* still a baby, we still treat her like she isn't in every way possible. When your child has speech and language delays (isn't our case it's just zero communication), it's SO important to talk to them properly. My daughter doesn't understand what I say but I still continuously talk to her with a normal frickin' voice. Although, Jesss is no where near as bad as The Gardner Quad Squad, I can't even get through one minute of their damn videos.

My son had a speech delay and we were told to not baby talk him. This was from ages 2/3. It was soooo hard for me during that time not to baby talk him. It felt like he would think I loved him less. But I know it was for his own good so I stopped. He's 4 now and in preschool and is all caught up on speech. So I baby talk him once in a while lol. And we do correct when he says something wrong. Not always but when we deem it necessary. Preschool really really helped him.

Re: Jessfam:RightMixOfStupidityAndLackOfContraceptives (Part
Exactly, it's so important, even more so for children with speech delays. Our daughter is a confusing case though, she can actually speak very clearly, she just cannot use those words to communicate. She has hyperlexia type II as well as Autism so she cannot also read words she has memorised. As soon as she regressed when she was 11 months old, I made sure I spoke to her clearly and in a normal voice without any made up words. With The Gardner Quad Squad, I would be amazed if none of those girls has real big issues with speech and language. I mean ffs they even have nicknames for their nicknames, it's ridiculous. They don't call them girls, they call them durls. It's just stupid and setting them up for further issues.Blackswan wrote:My son had a speech delay and we were told to not baby talk him. My kids are not named after anyone. I literally just looked in a book and picked their names.LilaLavender wrote:Something I was thinking about earlier was some stuff about Jess's choice of middle names for her kids.
Lilia Jean - Named after Jess + all the women in the past 3+ generations. Would have been Stephen Gabriel if she'd been a boy, named after Jess's uncle (which I don't think she's talked about besides that video?) and Gabe.
Kyson James - named after Drake's dad and grandpa..? Even though Drake had a really bad relationship with his family? Was it an attempt to mend the relationship or something? Idk
Kaden John - "there are several people in my family named John, so we just passed that down". Who? Never heard of them in other videos, except her uncle from her dad's side. Would have been Annabel if he'd been a girl, after Jess's grandmother (on top of Lilia's Jean also being after that grandma). Middle names for the boys if they'd been girls have not been revealed "because it doesn't matter" <- I thought that was a bit of a strange thing to say? Idk? Jess is usually vocal about her name plans so the fact that for the twins she didn't reveal makes me wonder if she didn't like them/there was tension around them.
Landen Joseph - Jess's stepdad who supposedly she really likes. I kind of wonder, though, why she didn't give Kaden the Joseph middle name if the relationship between her and her stepdad was that good?
Addelyn Jade - Named after Jess again, would have been Jackson Scott after Chris' middle name if she'd been a boy.
Note that none of the boys were called Jeff after Jess' actual dad, but Kaden did get named after her dad's brother ??? . Is it really such a big thing in America to always name kids after family members, at least for the middle names? Here it is mostly just names the parents like, or no middle name at all. There is no "you have to be named after a family member" yet with Jess I feel as if she just filled in the gaps with whatever J name she could find that would show her to be super close/connected with her family, even where that wasn't truly (seemingly) the case.
Sorry if I'm far-fetching, bored lol.

We regret what we gave our son as a middle name... he loves it though, but he's only 7 and he probably won't feel the same as an adult. He was born on valentines day so we gave him Valentine as a middle name. I know, it's bad >.<
Tbh though, the woman next to me in the hospital used it as a first name haha.

I know it's been said here like a thousand times but after watching her last vlog I just can't even. My god, Jess you've had 5 children how do you not know how to swaddle? It's so easy!
Also, the way she says pink never bothered me before I saw a comment on here "peeeeenk" lol and I totally hear it now! So annoying.
