Re: Bonnie and Joel: Butt slapping with Bonnie Part 7
I did see that party vlog and I believe she was less than genuine while attempting to be more humbled than she actually felt. Lol, she did attend the last CVX and enjoyed it. All her siblings were there, except for Julie. I unsubbed to 8 Passengers and the cross promotions on that channel with other youtubers is insane. I'm happy for the oldest sister, it's been a real Cinderella story. Oddly enough, I can't remember her name for the life of me. I wish Joel would go back to college and focus on retraining. I don't see him with the hustle as a small business owner. All the family vlogging that goes on in Utah is a bit much for me at the moment.Scar2016 wrote:She recently said how uncomfortable she feels when meeting her 'fans/viewers' and the same about meeting other bigger YouTubers, like she see's them as famous or to be looked up to.WhatSheSaid wrote:I recall the many times she didn't respond to questions about Joel's job and likely didn't care for all of the questions. But we came to know and like them in large part because Joel had a great work ethic. I found Bonnie to be a really strong and capable woman who ran the house and cared for the kids, and doing youtube was just a way to bring in some additional income. Her channel did really well because they were regular people that shared their regular lives. Somehow she went from sharing Joel's work schedule to being offended when viewers wondered why Joel was home from work. I've not watched regularly since right around the time the remodel was complete. What constant insults and nitpicking in the comments has Bonnie feeling hurt? She made reference to the lighting in the kitchen and "being vloggers" which indicated to me that Joel wasn't likely going back to his job. I don't know who they are anymore. I fear they are spending more time with E&J and I just do not care for them. Smh, searching for content... That was never an issue before.
Next thing we see, Ellie invites her to the party at her house with all those other YouTubers and Bonnie is talking all humbled that Ellie would invite her.
Then the meet up at the fire station where she get's to meet and interact with her viewers and was all relieved about how much nicer the whole thing was than she expected.
Then, last week, there was the Star Wars event, where she went for a meal with, again, a large group of better known YouTubers. The screening was linked to CVX which I don't believe Bonnie's ever attended.
From the above, is it a stretch to say Bonnie is actively initiating herself into the next level of her YouTube career? I personally feel she will be attending at least a couple of the large YouTube events next year and once that happens things will for sure change with their vlog content etc.

i don't understand the point of this post. are we supposed to think that her drilling the importance of hair care/appearance into olivia's head every night is somehow not gonna make her one of the 8/10 girls who feel pressured to have their hair a certain way??

Taking care of yourself isn't the same thing as feeling pressured about your appearance though. I get what she means. Combine her hair before bed to keep her hair healthy and tangle free is akin to washing your face and using proper moisturizer. Dove is trying to say beauty comes from taking care of yourself and feeling good. In this case I would agree with the message.mrogaan wrote:

Both of the above. The amount of times Bonnie say's ''Aww Joel, you're sooo sweet'' with her bottom lip all hung out is on par with the amount of times Ellie screams ''SOOO CUUUTE!!!''tratra58 wrote:RootBeerFloatie wrote:Personal opinion, Joel's "sweetness" is getting as bad as Jared's being over the top. The kids, having their chastisements online for strangers to gawk at. Bonnie's favorite Elf on the shelf this year is where she's chastising Cody for touching the elf to the point of him crying (and her laughing) and still filming, even going so far as calling it her favorite Elf video and pinning it on their channel. All this when Bonnie said they'd never film/upload those moments. Olivia's old enough now that her school friends could make fun of her for 'scenes' like that. Why does Bonnie find other people being upset as something to laugh at?

I agree too but she is starting to sell out. I do still like her but this is now her second hair product sponsor. Yet she has a nonsponsored video claiming loyalty to one brand and is picky about what she uses - and that one is true because I see that shampoo in her bathroom often. She's said in the past she would only do sponsorships from companies she actually uses but that is clearly no longer the case.HelloSweetie wrote:Taking care of yourself isn't the same thing as feeling pressured about your appearance though. Re: Bonnie and Joel: Butt slapping with Bonnie Part 7
The last few seconds of today's vlog, when Joel's baseball cap was in Bonnie's way - her albeit minuscule tantrum and the noise she made. It made me feel like their relationship dynamic is kinda like a tolerant parent with a precocious child. Like a weirdly off centered daddy daughter relationship if you will. Did grandpa Griff treat his daughters as super special princesses?

Re: Bonnie and Joel: Butt slapping with Bonnie Part 7
I wonder if they thought Heath Ledger had a cool name-- which would be ironic as Mormons because one of his biggest roles was as a closeted gay man, and he died of a drug overdose. And had a daughter out of wedlock. Don't get me wrong-- I thought he was a good actor. Not a good role model for Mormons though. But either an accounting book or him is all I can think of when they say "Ledger".Pineapples wrote:I've never watched her before but last night clicked on a random vid about some sort of Xmas party and an adopted baby called Ledger Hollein... But I feel like she _is_ pressured to wear her hair a certain way. They're keeping it super long. Does she have a say in that? Just speculating, but maybe she would like a short bob like her cousins have. And she wears it up most of the time.HelloSweetie wrote:Taking care of yourself isn't the same thing as feeling pressured about your appearance though. I get what she means. Re: Bonnie and Joel: Butt slapping with Bonnie Part 7
Olivia has talked about wanting to keep growing her hair really long before in vlogs, and has showed reluctance and disproval over Bonnie even wanting to trim it. I don't think she's being oppressed, I think telling her she needs to take care of it is Bonnie not wanting to fight with her should it become a tangled rats nest.lmmomSD wrote:But I feel like she _is_ pressured to wear her hair a certain way. Those stupid bath bombs she went on about with Cody...what difference did it make he didn't like it. Did their kids really wear pajamas to the evening church event? What is the issue with the kids wearing street clothes or even dressing up at public events.Scar2016 wrote:Both of the above. Re: Bonnie and Joel: Butt slapping with Bonnie Part 7
Something that bothered me about this post is the fact that she's preaching about girls who feel pressured to look a certain way yet Bonnie is sitting there with a full face of makeup and you can tell she either did a blowout or took a flat iron to her own hair. Why can't Olivia do what she want's with her hair? What if she doesn't want it brushed nightly? What if she want's to chop it all off? I feel like Bonnie has drilled it in to Olivia that she need's to look a certain way.mrogaan wrote: i don't understand the point of this post. are we supposed to think that her drilling the importance of hair care/appearance into olivia's head every night is somehow not gonna make her one of the 8/10 girls who feel pressured to have their hair a certain way??

Not gonna lie, I'd be annoyed if I gave my son a $6 bath bomb and he sounded ungrateful about it. Even if it wasn't his favourite, he still should have appreciated it.tratra58 wrote:Those stupid bath bombs she went on about with Cody...what difference did it make he didn't like it. I am the same way. Bath bombs are sacred in my house.
Re: Bonnie and Joel: Butt slapping with Bonnie Part 7
I most have more patience than I think since that stuff never bother me. I don't think he was ungrateful, he said it stung his hands which likely it didn't, but he is a young kid and that is the context I see this in. This was a minor deal. Why show this in your vlog?nutbagmcgee wrote:HelloSweetie wrote:

Didn't she make a big deal about not using drugstore shampoo because she was a hairdresser? Now she's doing a deal with Dove.

It stained his hands, not stung them. It's kind of the same thing as if there's one brownie left in the house. You really really want it but give it to your child. Then the child says it's gross they don't like it and toss it in the trash. The ungratefulness ticks you off. You could've eaten the brownie and sure as hell would've enjoyed it. You try to do something nice, and they didn't appreciate it.tratra58 wrote:I most have more patience than I think since that stuff never bother me. I think she is humiliating her child in this vlog and again he is a young kid. The humiliation comes from the fact she wouldn't think this was a private moment and shares it on a public forum or YouTube. I wouldn't do this.nutbagmcgee wrote:It stained his hands, not stung them. Re: Bonnie and Joel: Butt slapping with Bonnie Part 7
It's happened to me. This EXACT scenario, and others like it. Cody had an unusually bratty tone to his voice, and I would have been irritated as well. I in no way think she humiliated him. If she didn't let him use a bath bomb people would say she was being selfish with her money, or not letting him use one because he's a boy. If she never showed discipline on camera, then people would say she lets them get away with too much.nutbagmcgee wrote:It stained his hands, not stung them. The opinion on how parents should properly handle situations with their children is very subjective, and vloggers are definitely under the microscope.
