I think it's a weird Griffith thing. I don't get it either. I always put my kids at a table inside.

I always wondered if Ellie holds it against Jackson that he didn't really like his rock pillows that she picked out for Christmas last year. That would be typical of a narcissist as in he made her look bad. It sounds nuts, but it's possible. Maybe she thinks of that when giving him gifts.

So keep in mind that its harder for me to pick up on patterns ect with their behavior.
Just watching as infrequently as I do, the one thing that really disturbs me about Ellie is her lack in ability to praise Jackson when he deserves it. I've seen it several times but the most recent and the one that really scorched my hide is the vlog a few weeks back where they took the boys ice skating. I talked about it then as well, but look back at it if you really don't think she favors Calvin over Jackson. She REFUSES to talk about how well Jackson did and immediately turns it into Calvin being the best. While they are at the rink she gushes about how well Calvin did (the kid was in sneakers walking on the ice with a walker...) and throws in Jackson as an after thought (who was a natural at it like pretty much every physical activity he tries). "I want to come back when Calvin gets older." as in she cant just take Jackson since he is old enough and can really enjoy it, its GOT to be all about Calvin. Later, at the end of the vlog Jared starts talking about how great Jackson did and Ellie immediately turns the conversation on Calvin, he was just amazing bc he loves to talk to and kiss strangers.. She dismisses everything Jackson excels at and throws a freaking party for Calvin if he claps his hands. Maybe i don't watch enough to see her dote and brag on Jackson, but ive never really seen it. He does not get the praise he deserves from his mother, and that WILL be damaging to him as he gets older. Sure kids don't need a trophy for wiping their noses, but give a kid praise when he deserves it! We all know how everything has to be about Ellie.. all the time, and i have wondered if she see's Calvin as an extension of herself. If the attention cant be on her, then it better be on Calvin bc he's an extension of Ellie. Jackson has been pushed away for Calvin. Jackson will be trying to gain his mothers approval his entire life while Calvin won't have to lift a finger and will be the golden child bc Ellie has some weird attachment to him. All mothers should be attached to their children, yes, but when it the attachment is so strong that you start projecting your own issues on the to child it becomes an issue. Not only for the child but for siblings and partners too. I can see Ellie jumping on Jared off camera for giving Jackson too much praise.
Yes, this! 100% Jackson is treated like he's Jared's child, whereas Calvin is hers. His attention is HER attention too. Anytime Jackson gets any sort of recognition, she uses Calvin to steal the limelight away. This is a common tool of Narcissist mothers. Thing is, the Golden Child is easily replaceable, so if she gets her daughter, then Cal is going to find himself hanging out with his brother. At least then, Jackson might not grow up thinking it's just him.

Jared needs to grow a pair of balls and realize they don't need to bring anymore children or pets into that mess. He has his hands full raising his wife-child, two boys and now Penny. If something were to ever happen to him, or if he ever had to return to a 40 hr a week job, they would not be ok. Ellie can't handle life as an adult with two children. Not even close.
YES!! That's exactly how it feels, like Jackson is Jared's and Calvin is Ellie's. I feel like that when Calvin was born Ellie had a rough time (which i'm not shaming her on, I had a rough go with my second and i sympathize with anyone who has PPD. How she handled it is a whole other discussion about Mormon's and mental health) and she pushed Jackson away and on to his dad more. It happens with first kids, and i get it, but i feel like Ellie took it way too far. She forced that baby to grow up, and pushed him away emotionally (and physically) when Calvin was born.. I'm not a child life specialist, i havent taken any early child hood development classes, but maybe someone who has can help me out. At the age Jackson was when Calvin was born, are there emotional and cognitive developments that are being made between parent and child that could be damaged by her actions? Not asking for a diagnosis of course, but could someone with a little more background knowledge elaborate on that (or the lack there of)? It almost seems like that bond she had with Jackson before Calvin was born has been damaged and i wonder if there are some emotional milestones that were not hit or were "messed up" bc she pushed him away?
I hardly watch anymore either but l think Jackson is flat out adorable so l had to watch when l saw it was his bday. She just gets nastier and nastier doesn't she? Subtle things speak volumes....example Jared was saying today how Jackson was first to run and get the broom and clean his brothers mess. I WAS AMAZED. Her bitchy comment in response to Jared's praise "Well he also really just wants to go down stairs" meaning Jackson's motives were selfishness because he is cleaning to go open his presents downstairs sooner. Really??? I highly doubt seeing how sweet Jackson is coupled with his young age (that's kind of sophisticated plotting) that his motives were selfish. Then there are the times she says things that are just in and of themselves not a huge deal, but somehow seem so innapropriate and odd for a Mom to be saying to her 3yr old.
Like the kitchen thing....."Good now you can cook the food when you make it for me and stop giving me food poisoning" WHO SAYS THAT TO HER 3YR OLD. She's passive agressive at best and a bitch at worst. It's sad to see the progression of things having watched from the start when she was so much sweeter and just desperately wanted a baby....now she treats Jackson so horribly and she is just not an enjoyable person to watch. You know what they say....money often brings out the worst in people. Especially when it's earned quickly and easily.

To be honest, I really liked some of the ideas for presents for Jackson's birthday. I think it's really more about tearing wrapping paper open and celebrating the day than anything else, especially when you're three. I liked the painting idea and the kitchen idea a lot. Both are things that will last for a long time, and I don't think there's anything wrong with Jackson sharing them with his brother- it's kind of the nature of the gift- although do think it would be nice to give Calvin something along the same lines for his birthday, too. I also liked that Bonnie let her kids wrap up random things for Jackson- I thought it was rather cute! I think it's nice Ellie gave Jackson her old play food. My friend gave her kids her old dollhouse as a Christmas present from Santa last year and they loved it. It's better for the environment as it cuts down on all the unnecessary stuff! I am not saying Ellie does not favour Calvin (I really don't know enough to say- and I definitely DO agree that favourtism can take its tolls on children for SURE) but in all I think that the presents they gave Jackson for his birthday were nice. I even liked the clock! :)

LMFAO! That was me! I haven't watched the vlog yet but, that's hilarious. Called that!

Also, to avoid a double post, I want to respond to IceCreamCone and say that, I absolutely agree with everything you said about Ellie's "anxiety" and should have referred to it as "anxiety" in my post. Not to belittle her/anxiety in general, but as someone who also suffers from anxiety, it is irritating that she only brings it up when it is to her benefit, and for that I strongly side eye her "anxiety".

I liked them, but I think the kitchen was way overpriced. Their money to waste, not mine though!

The clock I don't have a problem with exactly, but I feel like it's heading a bit too much into the "something you need" territory like we've seen with Ruby (her daughter got new sheets). He got other things though, so I'm fine with it.

If his cousins wanted to wrap up their toys and give them to Jackson, that's pretty sweet.
Ellie is so weird about her old toys. Remember when she was showing them to Jackson and he was more interested in her old gun than her favorite (the toy cash register, of course) and she kept trying to get him to play with _her_ favorite? I can just see her with the food-- "Jackson, you're not playing right!"

I don't mind the clock gift except it wasn't something he needed more like something his parents wanted for themselves. Like they said its to keep Jackson in his room in the Early hours of the morning so he doesn't come into thier room. But what doesn't make sense if how many times Ellie has made it a point to tell everyone how early she wakes up and gets ready for the day......so if she's already up early why can't he? Is it all a lie? They actually sleep in and ?

The old kitchen food is kind of gross, though. Kids typically put their mouth on them while playing pretend and Ellie probably didn't wash them since she blows her nose in her sheets.

DB always complain about getting up soooo early to do stuff and it usually turns out to be 8-9 or later. Maybe this is what Ellie thinks is early also. Little kids will wake up at first light sometimes (5-6-7 am) which would be way too early if she thinks 8 is early.

Yep. Or Ellie is just lying like she did when she used to brag about always washing the dishes, and then it came out weeks later that she's been using the dishwasher the entire time.

Is Jared's brother married? I've only really seen him and the little girl (Anne?) in the vlogs since he has been visiting. Where is her mom?

E+E - It's all about ME! Part 20

To add to the favoritism subject, I know people have said it before, but I don't think her preference for Calvin will last long at all.

First of all, Ellie is very vain and Calvin is by far not her cutest kid. Don't hate me.

Second, she prefers him because he needs her, he's a clingy baby and makes her feel important. All 3 of my boys were very clingy high needs babies who wouldn't go to anyone but me, even for a minute. But guess what? It never lasts passed 18 months-2 years. Once Calvin grows out of it she will feel rejected and resent him. Cue baby number 3, her new favorite which I have no doubts she will try her hardest to hoard alone breastfeeding in her bedroom for the first few months just like she did with C so that he/she prefers her.

After that happens I actually wouldn't be surprised if C becomes her least favorite, due to his less than perfect looks and his general whininess and difficult personality. Jackson will be older and capable, and I'm sure willing, to help her with the new baby. Meanwhile Calvin will be whiney and probably jealous. I'm not saying she will go back to showing Jackson the love she did pre-Calvin, but he will be more useful to her at that time, which we all know is what is important to Ellie. It's pretty obvious by the way that she treats Jackson now, who is one of the cutest most well behaved little boys I've ever seen, vs. his first year that just because she's crazy about Cal now doesn't mean it won't change.

I totally agree with you. I'm confused about why it's a big deal that the boys could possibly share this gift. I feel like they got the gift because Jackson would love it and it's probably secondary that they would share. I mean, it would be odd in my opinion to NOT get something awesome that Jackson would love because it can be shared. That's ridiculous to me. If I had a shit ton of money id be buying a cool kitchen set too! Looking at all these comments you would think Jackson got a shit pie for his birthday, so dramatic!
It's funny to complain that Jackson gift wasn't good enough and in the same breath say that it's too expensive, I mean really

I love the sink oven part of these high end wooden kitchens- but I always end up feeling like the refridgeraters look just like a simple cabinet.

I always feel like why not something like this one and its only 150- and IMO- just as nice as the 700.00 one they got.
I actually like that one better! It has more features and looks like a real kitchen vs the cabinet look you are talking about.
It's all about the labels at this point for Ellie though, smh. I prefer the $150 too, way more realistic.

This is probably one of the reasons she said she's gonna sneak down at night... To play_with_it_properly. Too much irony, lol.

I'm confused. Is Ellie's niece staying with them? I've seen Jared's brother in the background (the guy with the long red beard) but not seen Anne's mother anywhere in the vlog's...

Jared's brother Ryan is a stay at home Dad. He is married to Anne's mom, Maria, who I think is a dentist. My guess is she's at home in Colorado, working. She has a blog called Raising Mecham, where she wrote a thoughtful post about the potential negative consequences of YouTube careers (but responded to a negative comment about E+J saying she didn't agree they had changed for the worse). In the past, Anne's parents have mostly tried to keep her out of the vlogs, or at least film her only from behind or profile so that her face wasn't in frame (same deal for Matt's much smaller vlog).
