Today's' vlog was cute. They clearly don't vlog only for the memories, but I like that it feels like they are trying to capture them. I don't see this with many family vloggers. E&J and B&M are all about themselves, but Bonnie's vlogs are a nice mix. I thought the bus trip with Boston was sweet, and there were a few clips that I could see them wanting to go back and watch again. Some of my son's favourite bonding times with his dad are when they do errands, so I imagine Joel and Boston will look back on those times fondly. Olivia's planter was sweet also. Even just cleaning is a memory. They are clearly in the YT bubble and making big money, but there are still so many ways that I feel like their kids are still experiencing a normal lifestyle without a lot of grand obnoxiousness we see from other YTers.

HelloSweetie wrote:My guess is that they are saving for a truck. They don't seem to have any other big projects on the go, so saving is likely. Bonnie spends money on hair and makeup, but that's not really so outrageous that it's the difference between a second vehicle. Not with the money they would be bringing in anyway.

While I agree it would be nice for Joel to have a truck, I can't help but feel like when they finally do get one, people will be posting here saying it's another sign they have sold out. Buying multiple new vehicles like all the other YTers.
I for one would be happy for him to have a better vehicle just for safety reasons. You're probably right that some people would snark about it, but even if he did get a family friendly truck, they wouldn't be as bad as the Lumps. If they suddenly get a bunch of luxury cars that don't do anything but take up garage space, then I will side eye them.

This may be nitpicking, but is it weird to anyone else that the kids still use "kids" utensils and plates? My fiances siblings (so my brother/sister in laws) are pretty much the same age as Bonnie's kids, 9, 7 and 4. And they all use "adult" plates and utensils, with the exception of the 4 year old sometimes using kiddy plates when it's something messy. I think they should be old enough to use real stuff?

I'm quite happy to see that Linc still gets to feed himself now a days.

I don't think Bonnie likes to let go of her kidses babyness, she likes to treat them as babies and toddlers as long as possible. I find it kind of weird as well. My 3 year old uses kid plates but adult forks and spoons.

My 9 year old still uses his "themed" kid plates and the kid utensils. He actually uses the same ones that were in the vlog today (I noticed them too). Whenever there are Birthday parties the kids all still use the smaller coloured kid-sized plastic utensils and plates. They are all capable of using larger sized ones, but prefer the smaller dun ones. In my house I don't care what cup/bowl/spoon he wants to use as long as he eats. We have the smaller things for his younger sibling anyway.

I like a table with plates, salad plates, napkins, utensils, tea cups or we 'set the table' for dinner at their children's ages. But it was a personal thing with me since I like the look of a table prepared for a meal. I use to buy new dinnerware, utensils or glassware, but have gone back to basic white plates (IKEA) and plain type glasses.

Those utensils come with knives. They aren't for babies. They are made for younger children. I don't let my son use them because I want to keep him a baby. I let him use them because he wants to. I often use a baby spoon for yogurt at work. Maybe it's not fancy, but who am I trying to impress? As long as kids are capable of cutting their food, feeding themselves, and able to use larger utensils who cares what they use?

I thought their children appear innocent in regards to YouTube and responded with a vague description of what it is to them. No one said it was their parents' job so I wonder if they make this connection? Or even how they contribute to vlogs.

I was hoping Olivia would say I want the proceeds or money from the vlogs I developed....

We just finished our 2 month summer holidays here in Tasmania and I would have gone crazy if we weren't ,5 mins from beach but I have water babies.
That said we are going on our first proper family holiday ever ( proper meaning flying to destination staying at resort and attending theme parks)/we are taking 13 and 6 year olds and the anticipation is thrilling , while I wish we could do it every year perhaps we wouldn't appreciate it in same way . But if I could afford to I'd test that theory out

I agree with you, who cares?

It's very nitpicky, and a bit sanctimonious. It's important for kids to have table manners, it doesn't really matter what kind of cutlery they use.

Suggest that people shouldn't use paper plates and you get people up your ass on these boards. Suggest that kids use proper cutlery though, and a proper table is suddenly a concern. If Bonnie had a perfectly set table and mentioned wanting the kids to use nice glasses, plates and silverware, I'm very sure people would be criticizing her pretentiousness and argue she needs to let the kids just be kids. There are plenty of questionable parenting decisions vloggers make, without getting so nitpicky that we all just look crazy on these boards.

Utensils are a personal preference. It's a tool to eat off/with... not a life skill :?

I let my kids use whatever cutlery they want. We have the kid stuff, so they might as well use it. I've taught them proper manners and they are able to use adult cutlery when at restaurants and such.

I had no idea people might judge something like this! My kids are happy and well adjusted. I guess I'm more likely to judge a kid that seems stifled with an overly serious parent than one that lets their kids have fun and use bright and colourful utensils. Healthy food isn't always fun, so the least I can do is let them eat their boring adult food with colourful utensils :D

I think it's odd because Bonnie seems to make them use those kids plates and cutlery. I see no problem if that's what kids choose. My son is three and also gets to choose, and prefers the big cutlery. My kid isn't stifled at all he always gets to choose his cup, spoon and plate. He always chooses the adult version. I make him use kid pastes because he could break my adult plates.

LOL I doubt many are pondering how Bonnie set her table tonight. You can't be serious or this isn't a serious matter. Her choice of dinnerware was fine and her roast and gravy looked delicious.

I said it was a personal choice and I love a beautifully set dinner table.

What makes you say she's making them though? We haven't seen that at all. She gives them a plate and they use it. I think you're reading too much into it.

I wasn't suggesting that you are stifling you child at all! What I simply meant though, was that I have a friend that's very similar to Ellie, whereas everything visible needs to be perfect and fancy. I can't go have a cup of coffee at her house without my Starbucks being poured into a tea cup. I hate going over with my children because their house is cold, pretentious and unwelcoming. That's what I mean by stifling. I don't judge a home that is lived in and where the kids use colourful plates, spoons, etc. In all honesty, I probably wouldn't notice. In a stuffy and cold home though, I would definitely notice a child using a fancy cup, silverware, white dinner plate and a linen napkin.

It is almost like Joel want's his car to break down, like maybe to get a new truck? Interesting he didn't show who came to help him get unstuck. I know it wasn't Jared because he is a moron.
I was thinking the same thing! Why don't they care about car safety!

Love Bonnie's vlogs and think she and Joel seem like phenomenal parents, but it's not just car safety that they don't seem to car about. It's safety in general. It's hard not to love her vlogs a little less when she makes such dangerous choices. You notice today she walked back in to the bathroom with Boston's shark while he was in the tub. Clearly she left the kid in a tub of water by himself. No way to tell for sure but seeing the choices she makes in other situations, l bet you anything she also left Lincoln. I could just see him unsupervised standing at the edge of the bathtub bending over dipping his hands in the water and drinking it just like he was in the vlog. I just pray she didn't go clear down to the basement and get that shark out of the downstairs tub. Week or so ago when l saw that Bumbo they feed Lincoln in had snapped right at the piece that goes between Lincoln's legs I thought "Oh thank the Lord Lincoln didn't have that snap while he was left alone on either the counter or table like you see in the vlog all the time." Then Joel shares he's gonna glue that one and fix it rather than getting the kid a booster seat that is age appropriate for eating. Great, so Lincoln is going to be sitting on top of the kitchen table in a broken foam seat that's glued back together. Meanwhile we will watch Bonnie turn her back to him and talk to the camera vlog about 5 feet away from him (way out of arms reach to even break his fall.) At least while she talks to us, she'll be able watch in her viewfinder as he falls from the table and fractures his skull. Image

Bonnie and Joel: Spreading all the HERPES Part 8

Unread post by alym0326 »

I think everyone's blowing my post about it out of proportion... I didn't judge Bonnie for using it, I don't think she's a bad Mom. Frankly, I have ZERO problem with the place settings she uses for her children. It was just a comment because I have a different personal experience and it occurred to me because my 4 year old sister in law is just starting to use them and only has to use plastic when it's something messy. My post wasn't throwing judgement at Bonnie at all... was just a comment that even stated that it's probably nitpicky

Also I don't think anyone suggested the kids have to use adult place settings, again it was just a comment that seems to have been blown waaaaay out of proportion...

Alright can we all move on from discussing silverware of both the plastic and well.... non plastic variety- and all get along so that everyone can read about my dramatic skull fracture senario then all hit "thank" in response to my incredibly insightful post!!! Image Image

Based off this post and some posts I've seen from you in other threads you sure do seem to think your kids set the rules. Who said she was making them use them? Maybe they chose to use them? Is that a wrong choice just because it's different from what works for your kids? Jeezus.

But doesn't Ellie use the same plates for her kids as Bonnie does? I'm pretty sure they both have those little divided kiddie plates.

I could appreciate going to look for Valentines and the constant changing of kids's minds with their picks. After a while, it can be frustrating. They also alluded to cabin fever which is real and it is noticeable siblings not getting along being indoors this much. On another topic, just thinking about Jackson who they said they were watching, I hope they send Boston to a "real" preschool next year before kindergarten. He is home a lot, especially in the winter and it will help him to know the basics starting off in school.
