Nope. you're not the only one! I feel exactly the same way. You've expressed it really well!MommaLindsey2 wrote:Haha once again in the only one who likes Calvin. I don't see how he's not well behaved? Yes sometimes he is whiny but that's because of his age and the fact he is basically non verbal. He's a sweet little boy and cute besides his unfortunate teeth, he looks a lot like Jackson did at that age. Jackson is adorable but he is a boring little boy who has had all the personality sucked out of him. Look back at the videos of him at Calvin age he had so much personality. Now he always looks worried and sad. I feel badly for both of these children.

I just watched their vlog on the funeral and there are touching moments with their family. It showed to me how this culture in the western part of the United States depict family is central and you can see the little things in a church where ladies make brown bag lunches for the family and friends which also included preparing the luncheon after the burial too. This is how communities are and it speaks highly with how they help others. I forget how western they are and the cowboy hats reminds me on where they are living in the US. Jennifer gave a lovely tribute to her sister as well as other family.
I would have left the swimming out since it seemed out of place in the middle of the vlog. Ellie saying her aunt would have thought this vlog was cute was odd since "cute" isn't a word I use, but I thought it was a nice tribute to their aunt.

I would agree, except they don't help others exactly, they help their own. It isn't just "family first" with the Griffith's (and a lot of the religious YTers), it seems like it's "family only." Family meaning the immediate church, friends, family, etc.tratra58 wrote:I just watched their vlog on the funeral and there are touching moments with their family. But I do like some of the family values. They remind me of how things used to be, and I think some circles could use more of this closeness and appreciation for one another. You definitely don't hear about families taking yearly cross country road trips to see family like you used to!
The family first thing made me think of something I'm hoping an LDS member here can answer. You know how we see DBEJCK pushing the child relationship angle? Is thee a lot of this in the LDS community from parents that hope their children will grow up to marry? Or are you encouraged to find someone from outside your ward to help widen the community?
Re: E+E - We Did Nothing Wrong! Part 21
How does a preschooler have the personality sucked out of him. Jackson, now that he talks, seems to have more personality and a smart kid. I don't wish to articulate why I don't find Calvin in vlogs a good thing and he looks nothing like Jackson at any age. He really favors Ellie's brother Beau and their Aunt Sony mentioned this in a vlog last year "Meeting the Babies." I agree with their aunt and he does look like the Griffith side of the family.natalka81 wrote:Nope. you're not the only one! I feel exactly the same way. HS I found this site with Donny Osmond informative. It is off topic for the board so I will keep it brief, but it speaks in a small part to the marriage question. http://donny.com/my_beliefs/are-lds-mem ... -member-2/

Both Bonnie (at another funeral or viewing when Joel's grandmother passed away) and Ellie did a respectful vlog with their lost.
You probably should skip her other sisters vlogs. What exactly is tacky?

Further curiosity about this led me to the Ex-Mormon Reddit. It's definitely a dark and scary rabbit holetratra58 wrote:HS I found this site with Donny Osmond informative. I have to agree. My uncle recently passed & I can only imagine what my reaction would be if someone were to put a camera in my face at his service. & on top of that "interviewing" me for their vlog?! Nope. I think it's disrespectful. But this is the new family business for them so none of them probably care.LydiaE wrote:So freakin' tacky to vlog a funeral.

I agree. family members that I don't talk to anymore take their family photos at relative's funerals because they are "all dressed". Photos taken or video recordings are extremely distasteful at funerals in my opinion.LydiaE wrote:So freakin' tacky to vlog a funeral.
Re: E+E - We Did Nothing Wrong! Part 21
This is their livelihood so those who appeared on camera voluntarily were comfortable talking about their memories. They film births and other areas of life so I guess I am not surprised they show parts of this day.Kay91_ wrote:I have to agree. I don't care if the close family members of Aunt Sonya or the woman herself said it was okay, what sort of asshole even thinks to vlog a solemn family ritual? And all to post on YouTube for the world to see and to profit off of it!
I hope their video is demonitized just as Bonnie's video was. Maybe they can buy themselves some class.

I've been thinking about this and I agree vlogging the actual funeral is tacky. Ive been ok with montages in the past because they seemed less invasive, but the actual filming would be he same.... it's just different from the viewers perspective, not for the others experiencing that moment and mourning. I realized I side-eye IGers that take selfies at funerals, so why is a video better? It really isn't, it's worse. Vlogging before and after the ceremony I have no problem with however, because that would be fine if it were a selfie. As long as they aren't in the actual hall that is.LydiaE wrote:Well, Ellie did slip and say the funeral experience was "fun"...YouTubeIdiots101 wrote:Don't you know, Sonya would think this was "cute"....LydiaE wrote:So freakin' tacky to vlog a funeral.

That said, calling a funeral FUN bothers me more in a way because it isn't just tacky, but ignorant. It seems disrespectful to the deceased, and like Ellie is managing to once again make it all about herself and how it was great to see her family

Can't edit but I wanted to add that if they absolutely HAVE TO vlog the funeral, they should at least refrain from using a clickbait title and thumbnail. A loved ones death should never be a good opportunity to profit. Just because vlogging is their job, it doesn't mean they get are excused from being tactful members of society.

I think that's what bothers me about it. Ellie always has to say oh it was so fun and cute! Like no. I get that it is also a celebration of the deceased's life, but she really makes everything about herself. Calling a funeral 'beautiful' is different and more appropriate when focusing on the love and happiness the person brought into the world. She just makes me side-eye by the things she says, because it goes back to her in some way. It comes off as disrespectful at some points, to me anyways.

Re: E+E - We Did Nothing Wrong! Part 21
I could see "bittersweet", or saying "Even though it was such a sad occasion, it was so good to be with family". We take pictures of family, because we're spread all over the place, and sometimes funerals are the only times we're together. But we'd never call it "fun"
Personal: we went to the funeral of a squadron buddy of my ex-husband's who crashed his plane. Then a bunch of us went out to lunch. Naval aviators are a goofy bunch, and we were telling stories and laughing. But we all remembered why we were there, and even talked about how weird it was to be laughing. I really don't think Ellie gets complex emotions. Or she is do determined to "choose happiness" that even situations where it's normal to be sad confuse her. I am not sure why, because Bonnie obviously can handle mixed emotions, so it's not the whole family. Not really familiar with the other sisters.

Re: E+E - We Did Nothing Wrong! Part 21
I think it's fine to laugh at a wake when reminiscing and telling funny stories. Funerals don't have to be just sad, I would want people to remember all the good times and the funny stories when I'm gone, not just cry and be sad.lmmomSD wrote:I could see "bittersweet", or saying "Even though it was such a sad occasion, it was so good to be with family". Re: E+E - We Did Nothing Wrong! Part 21
Can anyone tell me the vlog where Ellie showed her budget and how much they make a month? I saw it mentioned awhile back but I'm not active on this thread and don't want to go through 20 pages.
