Samika Vlogs. Part #2
Re: Samika Vlogs. Part #2
Do any of you remember Daehans ex, Julie? I thought she was sweet and likable. She is now engaged to Jack and will get married in November. They are actually also moving to Arizona together. I think they would get along with Samika despite the age difference.
The friends Samika stayed with in Arizona don´t seem to be Mormon. I would have to go back and check but I wouldn´t have noticed it. Did they meet them at the wedding when they decided that they might be interested in moving to AZ? I don´t think I have ever heard about them ever before. What I like about Samika is that they seem very open minded and usually have a ton of non-Mormon friends as well, unlike E and J who seem a bit overly religious and stuck up. I think Samika always liked E and J but never enough to be besties and I can understand why.

Oh wow, not sure how I missed that. I thought for some reason that they also went to the wedding and thats how they met. Oopss.bam wrote:^ if i remember correctly, monica's husband was sam's companion during his mission

I know it's their life but I don't get why all the sudden they're trying to buy in Arizona. I thought they wanted to rent for a year to see if they like it. Like a lot of things they do, this seems kind of impulsive. I hope it works out for them!

I highly doubt they'd hang out with Julie because I think she dumped Daehan. That would be really rude.sun88 wrote:Do any of you remember Daehans ex, Julie? I thought she was sweet and likable. Mormons who live outside of Utah/Idaho seem less Mormon-y. Both Sam and Jen were raised Mormon, but outside of Utah (Illinois/California). That's probably why they don't seem as Mormon as E&J, etc. They were exposed to life and diversity and opportunities outside of Utah - which is basically ALL Mormon. Even if they are moving to the very Mormon town of Queen Creek, AZ, they will still have a much more diverse/interesting lifestyle than staying in UT.

I wish Sam and Jen all the luck in the world. I think they will make a lot of friends easily as they are so easy going. I'm excited for them.ewokfan11 wrote:I highly doubt they'd hang out with Julie because I think she dumped Daehan. That would be really rude.sun88 wrote:Do any of you remember Daehans ex, Julie? An observation: why do a lot of posters refer to 'Mormon' in their posts - whether positive or negative? (not just this page but across the board) I agree that the weirdest yters happen to be Mormon but I don't think this is the reason for their weirdness - I think the worst ones are the Griffiths. I think their religion doesn't have much to do with it but rather their up bringing. The vast majority of mormon families are very normal.
I've not come here to diss anyone but I would like to say that if we switched the use of 'Mormon' in some of the posts to say 'Muslim' then this would be seen in a very different light and cause some major drama. I think we maybe need to stop defining someone by their religion or stop defining a religion by a small number of people.

Re: Samika Vlogs. Part #2
Eh, I disagree. I think their religion has everything to do with their weirdness and upbringing. If it weren't for their religion, their upbringing would be very different. The same can be said for all different religions, not just mormons. Mormons are the ones letting their religion define them, not us.MyPretties wrote:I wish Sam and Jen all the luck in the world. Re: Samika Vlogs. Part #2
And I think that because of the fact that for a lot of people, vloggers are their main exposure to Mormons. I agree that we shouldn't define these people by their religion, but I also agree that they define themselves by their religion a lot. The Griffiths in particular do. They don't hang out with anyone outside of their family and church. Sam and Jenn don't as much.

Re: Samika Vlogs. Part #2
Muslim vs Mormon is not really a good comparison. Up until recently, the Mormon church has actually been considered very cult-like. They tend to isolate themselves and only socialize with other Mormons. When my uncle converted to the church like 40 years ago, the church told him he could no longer associate with his non-Mormon family. When I briefly dated a Mormon guy in my 20s, my father was VERY against it. The Mormon church 100% dictates the lives and lifestyle of their members and they like to be "off-the-grid" so to speak.
I enjoy watching the Mormon family vlogs because it really reveals so much about their lives that have been so secret to much of the world! I also think YT has been good for these Mormon families to expose them to the world outside of the church.
I don't think anyone here is anti-Mormon, but the Mormon church/lifestyle is undeniably a HUGE part of all the Mormon vloggers' lives. I think it's fair to mention Mormon stuff when it's completely and obviously related to something they are doing.

Here's a good article about Mormons and why people question their religion and lifestyle.

Re: Samika Vlogs. Part #2
I would have to disagree on a few points you make. IF the mormon church dictated peoples lives 100% and they were not allowed to socialise with non-mormons then I doubt there would be any mormon vloggers. Sam and Jen for example hang out with her brother David who openly admits he drinks alcohol etc. Also Ellie and Jared hang around C&K and DB and they are their BF'S. In regards to someone being told they could no longer hang around with their non-mormon family this is somewhat untrue. I know several mormon families whose extended families are not members and they are still fully involved in their lives. I think they would for example not participate in boozy parties because they are not comfortable being around that. I don't see anything wrong with that, I have a lot of family members (not mormons either) that don't like to come to family parties etc cause they know it will end up with people drinking and smoking etc. Their not against it, its just not their thing.ewokfan11 wrote:Muslim vs Mormon is not really a good comparison. My post was not meant to cause a debate on what mormons do is right or wrong, we could go on forever about that what I was meant was that yes unfortunately some of what we see especially with the Griffiths is weird, this probably has a lot to do with following a religion but I really think they are an exception, just because they are so bizarre at times. I personally don't put all their actions down to being mormon but to them just being needy attention seekers. I mean I could define them as being weird because they are american, but that would be unjust because 99.9% of Americans are not like them, in my experience 99% of mormons are really not like them either. Again when I watch vloggers I don't judge 100% of their behaviour because of their religion/nationality, I judge them on their actions.
Anyhoo, Good luck Sam an Jennika with your move to AZ, I excited about the moving vlogs

Re: Samika Vlogs. Part #2
I agree the Griffiths define themselves with their religion too much, they try too hard at being 'holier than thou' . The difference between them and Sam and Jen for example is that they don't limit themselves to one state where the majority of people are the same (Sam hailing from IL and Jen from Cali) they go out and experience life without being in a bubble so to speak.lmmomSD wrote:And I think that because of the fact that for a lot of people, vloggers are their main exposure to Mormons. Re: Samika Vlogs. Part #2
Sorta off topic: We had a Mormon lady come into my work last night (she was wearing the name tag "Sister ___ Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints") She was very nice and gave both my coworker and me an info card about Mormonism (basically a business card with a website on it) and mentioned she wouldn't be doing her missionary duty if she didn't.
Couples questions (for those of you who are/know about Mormonism) and comments. She was an older lady, maybe late 50+. Are there people still doing they're mission at that age? Or people who do it their whole lives? Or is that what most mormons are supposed to be doing somewhat regularly (going out in the community and spreading the word.)
Also after she left, my coworker asks "What's a Mormon?" I guess they're not as prevalent down here in the South (or they're not as recognizable.) I've seen/know way more Pentecostals down here. Just seemed odd to me that she wouldn't even have heard of them. But she did also mentioned she didn't know much about religions.

Mormon's seem less strict about things than Jehovah's Witness'. We have a lot of JW's around here.
Re: Samika Vlogs. Part #2
^^ maybe she was a senior missionary? they usually work as a couple though. married couples have the option to do a mission once they're older. they're usually assigned office and charity work where i'm from.
also lmao, i googled senior missionaries and of course

lol that's so funny. Sam's mom is so beautiful, she was probably a knock out when she was younger.bam wrote:^^ maybe she was a senior missionary? they usually work as a couple though. married couples have the option to do a mission once they're older. they're usually assigned office and charity work where i'm from.

Re: Samika Vlogs. Part #2
The Mormon religion is very controlling. They tell you what to drink and not to drink, what underwear to wear (you can only buy it from the church, the money goes directly to them). They also tell you to have many kids and that it's the most fulfilling thing to be a mom. While some of these things are nice- they are only nice for people that actually fit into this so called cookie-cutter religion. If you don't want to be a mom of a handful of children then you most likely won´t feel as comfortable.
Let´s not even talk about their weird temple rituals. They are easy to find (nowadays) online- one reason why many young Mormons quit the church. The numbers are dropping immensely. They only growth you find is in 3rd world countries, with little access to internet or hope.

Men usually serve a mission before they go to College but some might go after their first or second year of College.angelfire89 wrote:Sorta off topic: We had a Mormon lady come into my work last night (she was wearing the name tag "Sister ___ Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints") She was very nice and gave both my coworker and me an info card about Mormonism (basically a business card with a website on it) and mentioned she wouldn't be doing her missionary duty if she didn't.

Some men don´t want to go because they are simply not that religious but then decide to go anyway- sometimes simply because of the social pressure.
Jackson- Carlies husband didn´t go at first because he didn´t want to be with a bunch of religious dudes, decided to go anyway just to learn selling skills and work ethics.
Also there is the possibility for retired people to go on a mission together (married couples). I think Jenn mentioned that she wants to go back where Sam was with him somday to go on a mission together.
