My kids and I do watch a lot of Youtube family vlogs, and as my kids are growing up bilingual (Swiss-German and English) we do watch mostly US vlogs. Currently there is this Youtube fad with bets (who can stay/hide/freeze longest...) with some preteens and teens getting 100's of dollars as handouts. This is quite warped and stupid, as it destroys the sense for money amounts not only for those kids but for very young viewers too. Had quite some explaining to do with my kids recently...
My daughters are 9 and 7 years old, and we pay them pocket money weekly (every Monday evening), according to their age. So the older one gets 9 SFR (its about the same amount in USD) per week, and the younger one 7. My hubby and I don't hand out money for chores that are the kids "jobs" anyway (setting the table, helping in the kitchen or with laundry), but sometimes we pay a bit extra for special "work", like mowing the lawn or washing the bikes and so on, but that is by our own rules never more than than the weekly allowance per week to prevent the kids from going money crazy.
How much pocket money do you give your kids?
How much allowance do you give your kids (weekly/monthly)?

I agree with your method! I also don't believe in paying kids to do chores, as chores shouldn't be considered optional (because some kids will just decide not to take the money).
