Most of the Mormon families I’ve known have just popped out babies without thinking about the financial aspect, too. To be fair, most of the families were pretty well off financially to begin with. But the Mormon family in my neighborhood was renting a 3 bedroom house for 2 parents + 7 kids that ranged in age from 2 to 18. The oldest girl was my age and from what I knew about her, the family wasn’t very well off, so they obviously weren’t thinking about finances when they kept having kids.

I knew lots of Mormons when I was in high school, and they seemed to have a handle on finances before having kids. Maybe it's the community. I lived in the Bay Area which is expensive. I always thought it was a Griffiths thing, but maybe other Mormon families are that way too. Ruby and Kevin didn't think about finances either. They just kept trying to have more, even though they say they could barely afford to feed the kids they had. Ellie was on fertility treatments via her dad's insurance when they were supposedly so broke that they had to choose between food and gas some weeks, she says they lived on potatoes (although she was buying Shiseido skin care-- what Ellie wants, Ellie gets).
Funny that they all used to claim to follow Dave Ramsey. Something tells me he doesn't encourage people to have babies when they are financially unstable.

Ironically enough, Ramsey says you can’t place monetary value on kids and not to let that hold you back.

He also says to buy used children’s items and to save for college.

We bought a lot of used clothing for our kids (except shoes). In San Diego, there are some downright posh second hand stores. But Ellie and her sisters would rather spend on themselves. They're so weird about that. Ellie spends on the matching outfits for photos, but they won't spend on regular clothes for the kids.
Maybe that's why they don't concern themselves with providing for the kids. They put themselves before the kids anyway, so it doesn't matter to them.

She always brags about the stupidest stuff. I wouldn’t go on instastory to tell everyone that my parents shovel their elderly neighbor’s house every time it snows. People would be like big deal, who doesn’t? Is this a Mormon thing to have to document good deeds or a Griffith thing?

I also always notice how the whole family brags about and makes sure everyone knows how hard they "work" so that then they deserve to "play hard." It's hilarious because I've never seen anyone work less hard than that family. And it'll be things like cleaning up the house that they consider such hard work, things that are normal for most people.

Why is _she_ bragging about JOEL plowing other people's driveways? She has nothing to do with it, and she personally never does anything for anyone else unless there's something in it for her.

Wow what did I just skim through. Ellie pretending she is a dog and Bonnie shaking her ass. Oh the Bollie clothing for spring is just awful. Like why would think a white grannie gown is what women want?

Also did anyone notice Ellie doing her pregnancy belly hand pose in that video?

In 8 passengers and Grandma Griff's Thanksgiving vlogs, myself and another poster are speculating if Julie might be pregnant? How would Ellie react to this if it were true? There are a couple of shots of Julie in a blue dress with what might be either a tight dress or a bump.

Pretty normal for these vlogging parents! I mean I can see giving it to kids if their doctor prescribes it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ None of my kids have ever had melatonin and have never actually needed it. But melatonin is a natural supplement plus your brain produces melatonin on its own. It’s not like it’s Benadryl and they are purposely drugging their kids to get them sleepy for bed.

The relevant point is "if their doctor prescribes it". I can totally see them giving it to them just to make them go to sleep. Have they said their doctor (and not one of Ellie's online "hormone specialists") prescribed it? Just because it's "natural" doesn't mean it's harmless. If they aren't having sleep issues to begin with, besides E &J just wanting them to go to sleep and leave them alone, they shouldn't be having it. Taking unnecessary melatonin supplements makes your body decrease its production of melatonin. So it's not something to mess with. If it hasn't been prescribed, it IS just like giving them Benadryl to make them sleep.

Yes, he did. I was surprised to hear that. He didn't say how often they give it to them, and I hope it's not part of a regular routine. I see more and more parents using this to get children to sleep at night.

Yes, melatonin is naturally produced in the body, but if you take it regularly, by external supplements, it can eventually inhibit the body's need to produce it. That's not good. Your body will gradually produce less and less on its own.

I also just found this..."The most surprising side effect of taking too much melatonin is hyperactivity, which is the exact opposite of what you want when you're trying to get to sleep. Taking too much melatonin can also cause crankiness, headaches, dizziness, gastrointestinal problems, joint pain, anxiety, and excessive sleepiness." I wonder if Ellie takes it regularly? lol

I can't deal with the sleep schedule/routine they have these boys following, in general. I just can't...

You have to be careful with melatonin. If someone constantly takes it their body will stop producing it.

Melatonin actually made my depression worse. It’s an uncommon side effect, but it happens.

What is it about E&J that people tend to give them the benefit of the doubt about things more often than not? There is no reason for their kids to be on Melatonin to go to sleep. I’m not anti-supplement, but there is no reason to self-diagnose and medicate children. Not to mention, Melatonin supplements are not “one size fits all.” I have criticized Missy for her use of Benadryl in the past, but I’m not giving Ellie a pass just because Melatonin is a supplement. Let’s be real, they are both using these meds for the same purpose. One may be more natural, but the side-effects are the same. If you put your kid to bed at 6:30 and they don’t want to sleep, then it’s probably because you didn’t let them get up until 8 am. Change their hours and don’t expect them to sleep for 14 hours ffs!

I tried to figure out what the reference was to Ellie being a dog. I finally looked at 8 Passengers' video of Ruby telling the story of how Ellie would crawl under the dining table, pretend to be a dog, and lick people's feet. Apparently, it was something she was known to do.

Emma is a little girl with a vivid imagination. There's nothing wrong with pretending to be a dog or a cat or an elephant.

Ellie was fourteen! FOURTEEN. I don't even know what to say. :?

And they all act as though it was normal and oh, so cute!
No wonder she is so determined to be the center of attention. Can you imagine a guy going over for dinner because he was dating one of her sisters and Ellie crawling under the table licking feet? Way to weed out guys who won't put up with the Griffiths!
And it explains her sniffing pacifiers... kinda.
