The artist had to work for her bread. She can't just upload daily stupid videos and make tons of money, she actually has to produce something.

Is she going to put a kitchen inside covering all the artwork?! Also a kitchen, quite progressive of her??? Is Jackson the girl Ellie wanted?

Travelling: to mommy dearest (grandma) and back.
Plus they are Mormons when they travel they don't assimilate the different culture but they try to impose theirs. Kinda like barbaric people.

I just can't imagine a grown woman with a family spending two nights in a row away from her family. Seemed odd.
Given that she was hired to do the job and E&J likely needed to pay her travel costs, of course they elected to put her up for free and feed her. You wouldn't want them to pay for a hotel and provide a food allowance would you?

When my husband travels for work he will work around the clock if need be to get his job done so he can get home. I don't find it odd that she did this at all. I would find it odd if I actually thought they were friends, but we already assume Ellie has none so when she says a "friend" I know she means the hired help.

Actually I wish someone would email the artist and be:
OMG I saw your video on Ellie SO FUN. I want something exactly like that. How much does it cost?

But she seemed like a genuinely nice person and I wouldn't want to give her false hopes.
Just curios how much it cost. Anyone did something similar or has knowledge?

I don't like the painting all that much. I thought it was just decals. And it looks like something that would be on the wall of a pediatricians office..

Honestly I didn't even consider that she didn't live within driving distance, so that makes sense.

Ellie to Jackson: "You can't be mad at me, cause what do you do? ... You make me happy, huh!"

Don't you dare making your precious mama unhappy, Jackson, how could you!!!

Lmao!

My mom had various artists come to paint certain parts of our house growing up, and as far as I can tell by that, and what I have discussed with friends, it really just depends on the artist's price evaluation. It's nearly impossible to tell, as it's not as cookie cutter average pricing as painting a ___ x ___ room would be. Depends on their portfolio, what they're being asked to paint, the time they believe it will take them, the paint used, etc.

However, flight tickets alone aren't cheap so I can only imagine that plus paying her for DAYS on end, hardly what I would call minimalistic Image

On a side note: I believe Ellie said the "surprise" would go in that right corner of the "hello room", correct? I wonder if that will change now that Cal's little turtle would be covered up by it?

I don't understand the "disaster". Have they always had a Nest camera plugged in there? Maybe. But why wouldn't the water shut off? And why is the clip edited, I noticed it doesn't actually show Jared unplugging the heater. But skips ahead with him holding the cord in his hand water still running. That whole scene is just odd to me.

Edited to add: why doesn't their ice palace have a heated garage?

My kids are fine and fall asleep after a few minutes if they cry longer than 5-10 minutes I will see what's wrong and try again. It's better than the coddling and rocking him to sleep she was doing before!

I agree that it's ok to let them cry a bit, but they send him mixed messages with the rocking. She mentions at least a few times a week on social media that she is rocking him to sleep. That could be confusing him and setting up fits where he just won't settle. He could be crying for much longer than a few minutes.

This was just yesterday...

I'm against cry it out completely, and I'm about 98% sure they let their kids cry longer than 5-10 minutes. Bonnie has said that she sleep trains from a fairly young age (the name of the book escapes me - "To train up a Child" or something similar?) and I'm sure that's a family thing that they all do. I just can't believe she has always just doted on Calvin but leaves him crying in his room all alone.

I had to let my colic 6 month old CIO until extinction. All other ways failed and this was with a sleep specialists' advice. First night she cried for over a hour. Second night 30 min, third night 14 and fourth night 5-10 min. Now I takes her under 5 min to fall asleep. She stopped being colic and finally slept and was a happy happy toddler, with a happy mama.

It was weird and because they lie on the dumbest things is why they feel "shady" on things like this IMO. Can Ellie take her dumb onesies off and wear real clothes? Lazy ass.

I find this as an appropriate toy for Jackson's birthday, especially since he knows so much about the "Saviour"

I thought the three owls was representing Jackson since he is 3? I also think he will get toys on his birthday from E+J, family and their 'friends.' I agree this mural painting is an odd gift since it really isn't a three year old gift. The painter did a wonderful job.

I don't think either of their kids lack material things and have traveled more than many American children and even adults. A YouTube kid birthday party appear to be a production or more elaborate due to being part of a vlog so my guess none of these kids will be disappointed. The questionable part is sharing it with strangers.

The Christmas thing might apply to most families, but I hardly think Jackson is running out of toy options for them. Jackson has more toys than he used to, but I still think Ellie's minimalist nature plays into what toys he can have and where he can have them. I think he's getting a play kitchen though, and if they buy him a lot of play food, that will give tons of present options. Melissa and Doug food in particular is not cheap and I think she'll do that.

While I agree that travel can be a blessing for children, they haven't gone on many trips that I would consider enriching for Jackson. Not lately anyway. He's at an age where play and toys are important to his development. They should already be including him in vacations if they are taking one, I don't see that as a justification for less material items.

I agree with you about the YT production though, and I hope you're right and Jackson has a nice little birthday including thoughtful gifts from his parents and brother. Maybe with something small that will be "just his" since the kitchen will obviously be for both of the boys.
I can't believe you have me defending E+J lol.

Jackson looks like he has a lot of toys, a nice play area and I think Jared interacts with his sons often which is a positive with having dad home. Both of their kids have a good life living in an upper class neighborhood, will go to good schools with supportive parents...I can feel the daggers coming at me with this one sentence;)

He is three years old for goodness sakes, he will not even remember a trip if they were to go somewhere. Best age to travel is school age for many reason. Their kids have flown on an airplane a few times and already been to the ocean...that is more than many kids their age. An enriching trip for Jackson would be a trip to the zoo.

I thought she was a gifted artist and was a nice person too. Someone question why she spent the night, I don't know where she lived, but the weather could have been a factor. Their area has had a lot of snow.

I kinda agree on the traveling part. Ollie may remember bits and pieces of his trip to London, but he isn't likely to remember last year's trip to Hawaii. Just like someone said Gaines is going to remember the fort that Cullen made "the rest of her life", not likely at her age. Once they get older, traveling would be great, but let's face it-- except for DBEJCK vacations, and vlogger conventions, they aren't really going to travel or try to experience other cultures.
Jackson has more toys than he used to, thank goodness. Now that Ellie has her Ice Palace and can shove them all downstairs, it's not so bad. But all the toys in the world won't make up for being a second class citizen in their house.

off topic but to defend/clarify.. I didn't mean that Gaines would remember that specific day or event, but that she will remember things like that that they will continue to do with her. As in small, simple things to make memories, not huge things that they have to spend money on. :D

About the travel I agree with you. He won't remember yet. That's why I said it shouldn't any bearing on how many toys he receives. That said, I think a play kitchen is a fantastic gift. I just still hope he gets something that's just for him and not Cal. Even if it's just a little Spider-Man figure.

A trip to Disneyland might be a good birthday gift, a DBEJCK winter vacay is not a trip for Jackson so travel has no bearing on birthday/Christmas gifts for me.

I'm watching the playroom painting video.. and ok.. Is it weird to anyone else that it's a birthday party? I get that its for Jackson's birthday ( and i agree that is a weird gift to get a 3 year old,) but why not make it a restaurant scene or a picnic or maybe a critters house with space left for the play kitchen? They have the open and closed sign for the door so is it supposed to be a pretend store or restaurant? I just feel like they will regret getting a birthday party scene.
"On this wall she painted some wood trees.." Ellie once again blowing us all away with her intelligence. She also is shocked that the artist signed her work. Like no, you can't take credit for that Ellie.
It's got something for everyone... except Jackson. :(
(pet peeve time, someone PLEASE tell Ellie (and Missy for that matter) that there is a difference between a friend and someone you hired to do work for you. I feel like they do that to disguise spending money. Like if it's my friend that is doing then then i didn't have to pay for it.. )

I admit it's totally nitpicking, but I had the same feeling about the design 100%. I have a tendency to overthink things though. I don't get the impression most YTers plan to quite the same extent since they have incentive to always be changing things. I think we'll see the mural changed within the next year.

Also nitpicky, but did anyone else think maybe a mural would have been better in Jackson's room? The play kitchen and toys are going to cover the design. Cute in theory, but maybe not in practice.
