Julie Deru: Part One

Re: Julie Deru: Part One

She's not mean spirited I think, just reacting to her surroundings. She has two soon three younger siblings and is expected to take care of herself as much as she can and help out as the eldest. The problem is that she might be the one who needs that little extra attention sometimes because of her situation and as children don't have access to words to express their emotions they'll do what needs to be done to get attention.
Bonnie had the same problem with Boston but she's been kind and wise not to put his bad behavior in the vlogs, she missed one vlog where Bostons stabs Lincoln in the back with a fork, it looked like a natural thing for him to do. But it's not about being a mean child, it's a reaction to his so called life situation. Don't know about Evie though, don't want to be mean to a child but time will tell with that intelligent little girl.

Julie gives Emma some of the strangest hairstyles sometimes. That wobbly bubble on the top of her head in the movie vlog was just goofy looking. She has really pretty hair, it's just a hit or miss when it comes to how they style it.

Maybe Julie's doing Emmas hair the same way mother Griffiths did theirs ?

Emma’s hair is bad, they cut and style her bangs too thin/too long/puffy like 90s and the hair line for the bangs start too low, it’s like the took hair from the literal start of her hair line which make her forehead look smaller and less flattering. Flattering bangs should be taken up higher/thicker and create more of a triangle hair line. That probably made no sense. I’ll try to find a picture lol

K how bangs should be at the top, and the horrible cut they gave Emma at the bottom

Wow, the screenshot on the bottom left literally looks like a picture of Julie from the '90s. :-o

I don't think Emma is outside of the norm of a typical kid testing parental boundaries and dealing with being the eldest + yet another baby on the way... but I do think she seems to be sort of a more difficult type of kid just in the style of her personality.. not in an extreme or abnormal way as all kids have difficult moments and ages and all kids test boundaries but just that she is more difficult than some kids as she seems to have developed kind of an oppositional and powerful little attitude. It's interesting to compare her to the other mid-range girls in the various Griffiths families. Olivia I think would be the closest in age, and similar in that Olivia is also the eldest and only has a bunch of brothers. Granted, Emma is a few years younger than Olivia but Oliva (at least going by vlogs) has always been very good natured, sweet, gets along fairly well with siblings and cousins and all other kids, fairly easy going and just a really nice little girl. Emma is nothing like Olivia as she seems much more uptight and with a huge attitude, and she also gets incredibly whiny at time and seems to struggle a lot when attention is paid more to other siblings. But all kids whine at times. So I'm not saying it's abnormal but unfortunately Emma is just one of the kids with a slightly less likeable and more difficult personality.

You could also compare her to Julie or Abby, who both seem to be really sweet, good-natured girls too, barring the occasional little bickering or normal sibling fights/arguing. Again, they're quite a bit older and they're in a different position in their respective families (middle kids) but I think Ruby used to be much stricter with them (it's only Evie and Russel where she basically stopped parenting) so Julie and Abby learned to be caring and think of others and the family/household as a whole rather than just what's in it for themselves. I think Julie and Landon need to continue to give Emma attention and one on one time but also really work with her on sharing, sympathy/empathy for others, caring, having a giving attitude etc etc...

Granted I thought the vlog where they were discussing where Emma would sleep was a bit.. sad. Sure, lots of families have small homes and have to make it work! But Julie was basically saying that Emma will be kicked out of her room to sleep with the boys (but keep her stuff and toys in the baby's room) so they can put the baby's crib? If they are that short on bedrooms, then baby's crib should be going in with mom and dad, no? Rather than cramming all three of their other kids into one bedroom...

As far as Emma needing/wanting/getting attention... they have 3 kids with two stay-at-home parents! They do not have to go to work 5 or 6 days a week like most parents. Sure, Landon has to study and occasionally leaves to help his dad, and Julie vlogs, but they are both essentially stay-at-home parents without a ton of responsibilities or committments. Even with 3 children they should have plenty of time to distribute between all the kids. My parents raised 3 of us and both wored full-time and none of us lacked for attention, so it's a bit silly that this girl would not get enough attention with two stay at home parents.

Anyone watched their new year resolutions?

... oh wait.... Mister Landon wants to do a PhD because "he would like to be a teacher".....

He always act as if he was so "clever" yet he is uncapable of actually finding a decent job and provide for his family of soon to be 6! And now he talks about getting a PhD? Well let me laugh REAL loud.

Can he just put his pride on side even if it means working as a cashier at walmart! there is no good or bad jobs, there are only good persons that actually care for their family's well being.

She really married an absolute looser. This guy thinks way too much of himself. I cannot imagine they do enough from youtube, his carrier is unexistant, he has zero working experience and I think he is around 30.... very worrisome!

Oh, Landon....he really is a loser. He's spent almost all of their married life in school and probably has student loans to pay for all of it. Now MORE school and a 4th kid?? And they don't work/have any income?????? I'm guessing they hoped YT would take off, but they really aren't very interesting to watch.

He hasn't even been accepted into a PhD program! YIKES!

Why doesn't he GET A JOB while they wait for his school info and the baby? They must be BROKE!

Too late to edit:

Why do ALL the Griffiths girls acknowledge they make fun of other people? Bonnie admits she's a bully, now Julie says she needs to work on NOT making fun of other people. The other two sisters seem to be bitches too! How were they raised??? God, that family is a MESS! So much for being "nice" Mormon girls.... :(

This makes me laugh so hard! Agree!!! Let's bet on his new year/new job resolution in 2019! i am betting he will say a surgeon because you know "he always liked scalpels and went 3 months to medical school so can totaly be a surgeon" *sarcasm*

Seriously though, how can you be ok with yourself not to provide for your family?

Wait! He donates plasma and this is totally providing for his family. They get their phones and winter coats from Ruby as hand-me-downs anyway. What else would a family of soon to be 6 needs ?!?!?

Joking aside, my cousins husband is like that and it didn’t prevent them from having too many kids either. She works her ass off though. She was never a SAHM.

Some people say Julie is the most normal/relatable Griffiths sister but honestly, I find them all to be so strange. How can she put up with and enable her husband like that? He's never gonna have a career. I can't believe how they're okay with having another baby when they don't have jobs, have to donate plasma for $, and so on.

They're really hoping the YouTube thing takes off. You can tell they want to be like the rest of the family, especially since moving to Utah. They see the nicer houses and think YouTube is the only answer. Unfortunately, they just aren't as interesting to watch. The only reason they have the number of subscribers they do is because of their relation to Bonnie, Ellie and Ruby. I know Julie must secretly hate seeing her little sister in a much nicer house (I would) but with Landon's flakiness and her not working anymore (plus more kids being added) there's no way they'll ever have much better than they do now.

They are super, super boring and honestly I don't even find their kids that cute or entertaining or smart either.. and most youtube families that are popular have cute kids where fans watch as much for the kids as they do for the adults. But I also find Ellie very, very boring too. I like Bonnie better but her and Joel both have a good sense of humour where they make a lot of jokes and laugh and it makes their vlogs better, plus I find I enjoy Bonnie's children (they were raised to be very sweet).

It's obvious to everyone but Landon himself that a PhD is not realistic or a good idea at this stage. If he was on the tail end of finishing up a Phd around age 30, that would be amazing! For those who do 4 years undergrad, 2 yrs Masters (some don't do Masters) and then a PhD it's actually considered a huge accomplishment to finish that by early 30s (BA + MA + PhD is like 10-14 years schooling depending on exact programs and fields). But to start a PhD at 30 out of the blue, when he has four children and a partner to support, that's honestly just so nonsensical and stupid.

A PhD is a 4-6 years committment in most fields! A 4-6 year committment of intense study, research, writing, attempting to publish research, teaching undergrads (in most fields) and basically loooong, loooong years of work with high stress and very little income. And there is no guarantee of finding a job as a professor at the end... teaching jobs in higher ed are slim pickings and insanely competitive, plus depending on field being a straight average white guy makes it even more competitive. Sure you may get some grants or funding from the university or department, but those are competitive and even if you do get some grants or funding it's highly unlikely that would be enough income to support a family of 6... usually it's a frugal budget for one person even. And again, you're committing to a program that's 4-6 years... 4-6 years of earning very little money apart from whatever grants or university funding you can scrape together! I mean honestly is he insane? You're 30, you have a ton of kids, and very little income coming in. You need to work! Not fool around all day "studying" (like when he was studying for weeks for the GRE test).

Why can't he find a job? Anything in an office, sales, car dealership, a warehouse job, manufacturing, delivery or postal service... hell like someone said, do retail if you absolutely have to! I've worked retail jobs on and off for years as a fall back for gaps between "better" jobs/moving to new cities for my partner's jobs and not having a job in the new place when we first moved. Yeah retail sucks BUT tell yourself it's not forever and it's a bit of steady income no matter how small. At a grocery store you might even get a small employee discount which could help with food costs!

Seriously the guy is insane to even consider a PhD. Just nuts. If they had no kids, sure, go for it. But it's just not appropriate for their current position in life. Unless he can find a part-time program and actually gets a JOB! And then does both. But seeing as how he hasn't really had a job in all this time I'm thinking that's unlikely...

When Landon was telling the story of the lady who pinned all her jewlery in her dress and gave it away to Goodwill and all Julie could say was "can you imagine?! Wouldn't that be AWESOME!!" commenting on the person who found it. Um, that's not very "christian like" is it? Or Mormon like or anything else.
