I just can't get my head around this whole "I'm entitled to carry a gun" thing. In my opinion you cannot "earn the right" to carry a gun, i.e. kill someone, unless you are part of the army, police, or security maybe, and these people are trained and monitored throughout. The idea of "competent", "responsible" people owning guns to "protect" their families seems outrageous to me. You just don't take the law into your own hands and you don't want to become a murderer, that would be the worst thing ever. Sure, Europe doesn't compare well to the U.S. but Australia does. It's a question of mentality, and that can be changed! So there is hope.

The constitution is hundreds of years old, it might be time for a change in order to make the country a safer place. We have referendums every few years to change parts of our constitution because society evolves.BlueEyedBelle wrote:Not trying to start a fight but owning a gun is a constitutional right, just like free speech is in America.
Freedom of speech is completely different to owning weapons and most western countries have it but don't flaunt it.
It's frustrating when every few months there are shooting sprees and people say how awful it is but don't want to change gun laws.BlueEyedBelle wrote:I completely agree that something has to be done so tragedies like this never happen again - but at the same token, crazy and evil will ALWAYS find a way.
The difference in a knife and a gun is you can inflict a lot more damage with a gun in a short amount of time than you can with a knife. It's also easier to disarm someone with a knife.BlueEyedBelle wrote:Take a look at what happened in China today as well, 22 schoolchildren were stabbed by a crazy man at their school. Guns aren't legal there, and he still found a way to act on his madness and harm innocent people.
The guy in China injured but didn't kill them. I wouldn't want to compare to China. Attitude to human life and rights in that country are appalling.

You can have the gun laws, but the problem isn't the law abiding citizens. The criminals will still have guns, and we will still have the shootings. I think there is no need for assault rifles to be around for citizens, and i do believe that it should be harder to become a gun owner. Classes and a real license to carry and own one would be a start.

America is not quite the same as Australia and we should be given respect in our own right instead of trying to compare us to other countries. Most people here don't want to give up having guns and I doubt it'll happen in my lifetime. I myself have a gun at home and a conceal carry permit but I don't carry. It's just how we are and frankly given the number of people who have guns the fact that this doesn't occur more says to me the problems are with mental health treatment rather than with guns. That being said, it really is sad and my heart goes out to everyone involved. They are in my prayers.Dandelion wrote:I just can't get my head around this whole "I'm entitled to carry a gun" thing. Wow! Jonathon was really very overweight in this video. He has definitely lost quite a bit of weight since then.
I cannot wrap my head around how these two arrived at the decision to bring a dog to a wedding. I would have been mortified had someone showed up to my wedding with a dog. Then to proceed to have the animal at the dinner table, feeding it off the table. OMG. I'm sure Jonathon's father was humiliated. To hear Jonathon say he doesn't think he did anything wrong, and was considering not inviting his father to his own wedding over this is beyond juvenile. He and Anna need to apologize to his father, and his father's wife.

As a mother, and a member of the human race, I was deeply saddened by the tragedies that happened yesterday. I literally vomited when I heard it on the news and spent the vast majority of the day in tears and in prayer for the victims and their families. This tragedy will not just pass over where we forget about it. However, this was an act by a very messed up person that chose to make a very messed up decision that affected a lot of people, including small children.
Here is the thing about gun control in America. As the wife of someone who owns guns for recreation (hunting) and who was also in two branches of the special forces in the Army for quite some time...I see it as a constitutional right. NOW DONT JUMP ON ME....hear me out! lol YES, the constitution was written a long time ago...BUT if the government takes away ONE of my constitutional rights, whats to stop them from taking ALL of them???
ALSO......gun control DOES NOT STOP criminals!!! They arent obeying the law in the first place!!! And drugs are against the law here, how many people still do them?? Criminals dont pay attention to laws!!!! So it will not stop them! It will just make guns MORE DANGEROUS because they will be sold on the black market. Therefore they will not be regulated for safety like they are now. They wont have safety laches, they will be able to be modified to the makers liking, and they will have more power than they do now. Its not the gun that kills people, its the psycho using it.
End of rant...off my soap box!

I, personally have not advocated for removing gun access altogether, but we have to acknowledge that in the last 50 years the fifteen worst mass shootings occurred in the US. Second place? Finland with TWO. The states that have at least one law towards regulating gun access have LESS gun violence. SOMETHING needs to change and I think people who care more about their access to a weapon than the lives of 20 children have their priorities massively fucked. I totally agree with you....my point is not that we want to have access to guns, the point is that we take away one right from the constitution, what is to stop us from having no rights as citizens of a free country. The guns used in this shooting actually belonged to the MOTHER of the shooter, who was also a victim of his rampage, along with children and members of the staff at that school. If this man really wanted to kill, he would find a way. It is very easy to access lots of things in this country. Everything can be a weapon in the hands of the wrong people. I have lighters in my house. In my hands they can put a fire in my fire place when we are cold. They can light a pilot light that has gone out in my heater or my stove. But in the hands of a mad man they can set an entire building on fire and kill people. Im not trying to say my right to bare arms is MORE important than these childrens lives, please understand that! I would NEVER say that! I am saying that ANYTHING in the wrong hands can become a weapon and can take lives.geeklove wrote:I, personally have not advocated for removing gun access altogether, but we have to acknowledge that in the last 50 years the fifteen worst mass shootings occurred in the US. Re: TheStyleDiet/LeFloofTv-Part 16
Most criminals already do what you said, buy it on the black market so it's untraceable, plenty of gangs modify their illegally obtained weapons (most of which are the type NOT legal to be owned by regular citizens, btw). Tbh, I think most people who are adamantly against guns are rather uneducated about them, uneducated about how legal obtaining of guns in the US works, why, what for, etc. They think "gun" and automatically think "murder". They are not able to put in any kind of perspective, including historical--why so many Americans are so insistent upon being able to own guns. Also, I don't think people realize that each state has different laws and not all weapons are legal. They have a bad picture, thinking that all those silly criminal shows are what America is like. That a regular citizen gets stressed and starts shooting at his work, his wife and kids. It's ridiculous, not like that at all. They also don't take into account the size of the country, of course there will be more crime of any kind as we have millions more citizens (comparisons to Australia are not viable, there are about 22,840,972 people there, packed mostly on the eastern side, compared to US's 311,591,917 spread out all over, not to mention Australia didn't have anywhere near as much drama packed in its short history as US). People from completely different environments, countries, won't understand it unless they sit down with on intelligent non-fanatic pro-gun person who can explain the history, they reasons, the need for freedom of gun ownership. Educated people know they cannot rely on gov't to be for the people at all times, all too often it is against us, legal weapon ownership is also a statement to the gov't that it needs to respect it's citizens. It may be fine for a small country that has a more intimate direct relationship with it's government but the same ways will not work here. I do believe that there should be stress on appropriate training in usage, safety, safe storage, possibly psych evaluations. Like I said education not restriction.blondetxgal wrote:As a mother, and a member of the human race, I was deeply saddened by the tragedies that happened yesterday. That being said, if there was a way to make all the world's weapons disappear, I'd be the first in line to be overjoyed. Personally I don't like guns, don't like to be near them, and wish they weren't invented, but one has to live in reality. I also have a feeling that this discussion is rather futile, not only is it a deep subject but this is the wrong place for it. I'm not really seeking to convert anyone but it does irk me when people think that murderous suicidal psychos should be the cause of my liberties being limited, particularly by agencies who don't have my best interest at heart.

Feeding Albi from the table at the wedding was beyond disrespectful and bringing the dog just brings the attention on A & J.. very strange to want to bring that attention to themselves at someones wedding (although clearly they like attention or they wouldn't have a "show" on YT!). Someone mentioned Anna's Mother in law calling her names...not sure if it's true or not, however if so I don't think that was right. That being said..something this low-cut ( possibly bra-less) would not be what I would advise anyone choose for a family wedding!

This wouldn't involve a constitutional right just being taken away - many people are actually asking for this to happen for the safety of everyone! The gun belonged to the mother? And here people are saying that weapons in the hands of responsible people don't do any harm? That just proves that no home is safe with a gun in it.
You cannot expect other people not to be violent if you yourself are not willing to give it up. Everyone will have a good reason why they should have a gun.

Hmm, I'm not sure. Shooting is much easier as you can keep a distance from your victims. How does it take a long time to style her hair? It's just long, wavy and sitting there. If she didn't feel the need to straighten them all the time it'll take no time at all. Her hair looks fine wavy, I don't see a need for daily straightening. Also if she actually used her brain and been more creative, do an interesting, easy updo once in a while it would cut down on time greatly as well.
