Thanks, but i don't quite understand how it's a life saver. Chad had to get them again and he got those same phase 1 braces. He also ended up with many cavities because he was 7 and couldn't care for his teeth well. What exactly is the advantage?

I say life saver because when you start phase 1 as a child, you generally only need braces as a teen for 1 year, maybe 2 at the most. Phase 1 is widely for those with bite issues, and that can take usually anywhere from 3-5 years to fix if you haven't done phase 1 as a child. Most teens are self conscious and are ready for braces to be off as soon as they're put on. It's nice to only need braces for 1-2 years rather than 3-5 as a teen. Phase 1 also reduces the need for headgear.
Phase 1 isn't for everyone. It's possible Chad didn't really need them the first time he got them. 95% of the time phase 1 braces are beneficial. The big thing to remember is that everyone is different. You could take a child who has the same dental make-up as Julie, give them braces at the same time, and you will still have two completely different outcomes.

I'm sure you know more than me about the phases, but In this case I feel that it was partly about status and image for Ruby. She wants the family to look perfect. Of course I do hope it works out well for Julie.

I definitely don't think it was just for image. As mentioned earlier, Julie had a bite problem. I used to have a friend with similar problem in her teen years and she was suffering from migraines because of her teeth, which isn't the nicest thing when you're at school and need to concentrate. So I believe Ruby did what the orthodontist said was the best for Julie.

I don’t think Ruby is powerful / influential enough to pursuade a professional orthodontist to put braces on a young child if they didn’t think she needed them!

I had super crooked teeth and a bite problem and only got braces at 15. Honestly wish I could've gotten them younger even if it were to have helped just a little. The amount of times peers asked me "When are you getting braces" was embarrassing and rude. Instead of straightening them when i was younger they grinded down my lateral incisors so they weren't so sharp and stuck out as much and im now left with weird shaped teeth. So I have no problem with Julie getting 1st stage. She seems smart enough to brush often.

Does anyone else find the house that they stayed in over the New Year holiday incredibly weird and off-putting? To be fair, I sensed Ruby did too. So very ugly and WEIRD.

About the braces, each kid's mouth is different so I can't say for sure if Julie needed them as I'm not a professional who has examined her mouth, but it is not a strange thing for kids to get braces that young. Personal but relevant to the topic: I got braces in fourth grade. I still had quite a few baby teeth, but I had an extreme overbite, overcrowding, and all of my teeth were crooked. The orthodontist told my mom if I didn't get braces at that age I would have to deal with years of speech therapy (my speech was affected by how bad my teeth were) and I would need surgery. So I wore braces/headgear at night for about two years, a retainer for another year, then braces for one more year, a retainer for a year straight, and now I wear the retainers a few nights a week. Sometimes two phases of braces, starting at a young age, really are necessary.

My daughter has braces. Put on when she was 11
I see 8-10 year olds in the office more than any other age.

Yes!! Came here to say the same thing. Did they just google the biggest house in Utah and rent it? I would never be able to vacation in a house with that many people, let alone all people who do YT.

Does anyone know who exactly went? I saw Julie, April/Davey, the Tannerites, Ohana Adventures and some people I had no idea who they were. I could totally see Ruby try to fit in with those families, but Julie/Landon seemed so out of place. Did Ellie and Bonnie go too?

ETA: how long did they stay?! A night? I just noticed the end of the video they are back home. It looks like she uploaded 2 videos within 24 hours and one video shows them arriving and the video for today they’re already home. So confusing

I think Ellie and Bonnie went to Carl and Jinger's for New Year's.
I would go insane if I had to be in a cabin with Ruby and the Tannerites.

I actually liked the house. I would love that indoor pool. I also liked the lofts and hideaways.

Has anyone ever come across Alex Boye's channel, the "Boye Family Jewels"? His wife Julie vlogged the party too and she was not enjoying it at all. (Surprised they don't have a thread!) Dealing with a newborn baby (#6) and 50 other screaming people would not be enjoyable for me either. These youtube dads are so childish...

It's funny that all the vloggers, especially Ruby, had to swear up and down they were drinking sparkling cider and not alcohol.

Yeah I thought it was pretty cool. Would be weird to live in (though I'd love an indoor pool) but fun to vacation in.

I think it may have been just 1 night just got New Year’s Eve but 2 full(ish) days there...all who went were..8 passengers, tannerites, April and davey, Ohara adventure, deru crew, fun cheap or free and bite family jewls...can anyone tell me how Julie got invited I watched her version of the party and she says in the video that it’s all family’s she’s never met! (Obviously aside from her sister) I realise this isn’t her topic but hers isn’t very active from what I can see!

In those NYE videos it was pretty weird that the only one who would hang out with Shari was Allie (they were painting nails or something like that) while other "teens" (Roberta, Danielle, Klai, Rykel, Chad, Zede) were together. Also you could see Shari with the adults when they were counting down to midnight. Makes me wonder - do you think it's teens that don't really want to hang out with her or is it Shari thinking she's too good to hang out with them and choosing adults instead?

I think it’s more an age thing, from all the different videos of nye I’ve seen the general message was that the kids were split by age (by their own doing) and I know Daniell Klai Zaid and Chad are all really close like best friends and I think they are very close in age, I personally find Ali a little odd/young for her age but at the same time quite standoffish and I think Shari is very mature for her age (not a compliment haha) so I think maybe she and Ali gravitated towards each other as sort of “were more mature than the younger teens” and I think Roberta did hang out with them a bit and Rykel tends to stick with Klai as she’s a bit of an odd age and she didn’t have another one of the kids that was her age. Does that make sense? I feel like I waffled a bit there haha
