Where I live in the US kids use public transportation by themselves. There's no reason why Shari can't take the train, totally normal for a kid to do. Only in the past 20-25 years have kids had their ability to travel or go anywhere taken away by parents who think they need to be with them every second. I used to go places alone and I will let my children take the public when they are older. 5 is too young but 13 is not.

Can we talk about how Ruby has a no sleepover rule? It’s ridiculous that her reasoning is that there are scary people in this day and age, when in reality it is much safer than in the past. Not to mention, she does allow sleepovers with family, when a large portion of sexual assaults/molestation are by family members. She doesn’t trust her kids friends or their Mormon parents? Talk about controlling and coddling to the max...

I was really surprised at first with this, then not so much. It fits with the insular kind of life they lead despite being so public in so many ways. It's all very uncomfortable to think about. I certainly remember growing up that the children who were not allowed at sleepovers or at summer camps were the newcomer kids, whose parents understandably maybe had limited ability to communicate with the other parents, who were not at all familiar with the practice of sleeping at someone else's house, and who may have trust issues given past histories. One of my best friends was in this group, but she made up for it by hosting the BEST sleepover parties ever. I am a little more confused by the Franke family sleepover rule. I wonder if it's because a. they're worried about possible abuse by community members (not something I want to even think about) and have a 'you can never be too careful' kind of mentality or b. they're worried something might be divulged or end up on someone else's videos that could end up on the internet and compromise their image or c. it's some other religious, family, moral, reason that is just they're thing. It's interesting to me. I can't imagine how much resistance they'd get from the older kids, especially if all their friends are allowed.

The Dad spoke up real quick when it came to the no sleepover rule, not just Ruby so I suspect they are concerned about their Mormon neighbors. It's not like they are overprotective of the kids in any other way, in fact, the kids are damn near on their own most of the time. Maybe something happened in the past and they decided not to allow it.
I have a feeling bratty Shari will somehow get the rule overturned.

I remember Ellie and Jared saying no sleepovers for Jackson in the future, does anyone else remember them saying that?

I feel terrible for saying this, but god Ruby's skin is looking even more terrible than usual lately. It always looks so sun damaged/inflamed/dry. Why does she wear eye makeup, lipstick, blush and then hardly any foundation? So weird. Her hair also always looks bad. She needs to change up her style a little and look after herself better.

Hmm if all Griffiths are against sleep overs, and they themselves grew up with sleep overs it makes me wonder if one of the Griffith girls or a close relative had a bad experience at a sleep over? Only way they would change their old Griffith ways is if it directly relates to themselves. A lot of modern parents don’t allow sleepovers because of stories on the internet, girls being violated, substance abuse....but usually warnings of others don’t effect the Griffiths, only if they have first hand experience.

Im wondering the same thing about sleepovers. I had the best sleep overs as a kid, then later as an older teenager it was drinking games at sleepovers, which is very memorable, as stupid as it was :) I've never been harassed nor have my friends. We all had brothers and sisters and respected one another. My in laws never did sleepovers. We're not mormon, but are Christians. My mother in laws reasoning is "you have your own bed at home so why sleep somewhere else?" I think there is another underlying reason she isn't saying. I just dont get it. We will allow sleepovers, I myself cant wait to host my kids' friends. Even when they're older I rather they are all at my house and I give them space.

I went to lots of sleepovers growing up, and my daughter had some, and went to some at other people's houses. They're fun! I get wanting to protect your children, but wow. Not everyone is a pervert. And as someone pointed out, kids are more likely to be molested by a family member that they trust.

Posting a video of your kids standing around in their church clothes laughing hysterically at their father's botched torso shaving isn't weird at all.

The kids have their issues, but the 4 older ones especially don’t seem like they would get into too much trouble if they went to a sleep over. I was a good kid and mine and my friends parents had boundaries. We were supervised most of the time, helped clean up the messes we made, and went to bed at a reasonable hour (worst case secretly stayed up until 11 or 12 because it was cool to do that). I suppose a lot of factors go into their decision- social media, having a big family, religion, tradition, etc. It’s just not the way I would want my kids to grow up. I do get a slightly culty vibe from the Griffiths. They are all about being close within the family but aren’t very welcoming of people coming in or leaving their family group.

I don't think it has anything to do with how they would act, to be honest. Most people who don't allow sleepovers don't allow them because of what could happen to the child. Sexual abuse is a big reason.

I so agree, she just looks awful. Not the mention that horrid lip liner. It looks like a bad tattoo.

On a similar note, Shari's makeup videos drive me crazy. First, she has no idea what's she's doing, so why the heck is she sharing it? Second, she has so many expensive, high end products. No 13-year-old needs that stuff.

I had a friend growing up whose parents didn’t allow sleepovers often because she would stay up too late and they had days full of activities. Or that’s what they said.

I know many sleepovers that have ended badly in many ways though. My friends and I literally set two ovens on fire in the same night (switched houses). It could be anything that falls under the term controlling lmaoooo

Because they're morons and don't know anything about car seat safety after all those kids, nor do they care. He was in a no back booster seat when he should've been harnessed, and he's been in nothing but a seatbelt for quite some time. Eve was in an expired seat for a long time until they got her a new seat. Which was a stupid idea, because it's a convertible seat. You don't buy convertible car seats at Eve's age when you don't have any younger siblings to use it. She hasn't rear faced in 3 years. They should have gotten a harnessed booster that would've lasted years.

Right? Also, Shari equally has bad skin because shes been wearing makeup since she was about eleven.

It's so true. Not only that but she packs it on without any kind of moisturizer. That is just the worst for your skin, and I'm sure neither one of them wears SPF.
