But they don't do any of the child- led learning either. They don't have him learning about how to take care of himself. He still drinks from a sippy cup. And even in foreign countries where they keep the kids out of regular school, the parents teach them colors, right? Play games with them that stimulate them? Do imaginative play with them that _doesn't_ involve killing someone?asthecrowflies wrote:Ok, I keep seeing people make comments on Ollies speech/he needs to learn more etc., honestly he's only 4 years old. He's been on this earth FOUR years. Other countries that EXCEL in education (News flash: America is 17th!! On the ranking system) delay their child from going to school til 7!! Because before 7 they focus on the child learning about THEMSELVES, as well as how to clean up, prepare foods, garden, explore, more child led learning.
So please, as a mother of a 4 year old, no one is perfect, especially in this country (America, and some of you probably don't live here.)
Everyone learns on there own, which is why the public school systems fail so many children, because they EXPECT everyone to learn a certain way and milestones according to textbooks, missing the true human behind the "grades/tests" we are all different and learn differently....
But i will add, excessive screen time WILL hinder a child's speech overtime. Living somewhere sunny, personally I'd take advantage and have my son outside for the majority of the day (in shade, during the hotter months.)

And if a child is 4 1/2, which Ollie is, and can't express himself intelligibly, they get help for him, don't they? They don't just pretend he's perfect and that everything is fine.
I don't think anyone expects him to read War and Peace, or speak perfectly. But we expect his parents to give a damn about his learning process.
