I'm sorry but if in were divorced and mybhusband got remarried......I would be posses if they made my kids call the step mom "mom" or "mommy" or any variation. Hell naw.

I always called my stepdad by his name.

I am the one that carried them in my body and gave birth to them, got up with them at night, potty trained them, etc. I earned that title and I will be damned if my kids call someone else mom.

Yeah I agree as well. Totally. There are for sure situations where women dont act as real mothers or guys as real dads and where the new partner (that acts as a real parent) is called mom/dad. With those I understand. But from what I gather Ashley (thats the name of chris’ ex right?) is a good mom who cares a lot for their kids so I don’t think she’s extremely happy about that. But I bet they call her new guy dad, and that’s jess’ excuse to be called mom as well. Wow this is all so complicated, my heads spinning lol.

So looking at it from a very basic psychological point of view. (Basing this on Bowlby’s theory of attachnt for any other psychologists) Chris met Jess when Landen was an infant (before he turned 2) which was his critical attachment stage for a child. Drake wasn’t in the picture so the attachments Landen was forming were to the people who he was surrounded by unlike the twins who were surrounded by Drake during their critical period. Understandably, Landen has a stronger attachment to Chris as he’s never really known a life without him and Drake hasn’t really been in his life therefore the attachment to Chris will be stronger than the attachment to Drake. If Chris and Jess split, I believe Landen will suffer much more greatly than the other three kids however that’s only looking at it from a psychology point of view. That’s just my 2 cents to Landens attachment to Chris, not Chris’ attachment to Landen and ignorance of the boys.

So basically Chris only reciprocated with the kid who automatically loved him. Any little kid will grow to if you just take the time to interact with them, even if they had been seven. I don't think any of us question why Landon is attached, but rather acknowledge that the twins not being attached is very telling about Chris as a step dad.

Very much agree with this^. My partner's younger twin brothers where 2 years old when I met them for the first time, and while one of them was instantly friendly, the other one really didn't like me, for years. When he learnt to talk he would complain about how my hair colour (rainbow at the time) was scary and every time I walked into the house he'd go and crawl on his mum's lap and say he didn't want me there. At the same time, he was very fond of his female cousins that were my same age, and had no problem talking to them and cuddling with them. Did that make me feel crappy? Yes, for sure. But I didn't go "Oh well, this child that's now important in my life now obviously isn't interested in me, so I will give up on them and focus on his sibling that does like me!", no, I just continued to be friendly and to speak to him and praise him, and after a few years, he grew out of it/warmed up to me. A kid being uninterested/rude to you isn't an excuse to be uninterested/rude back, if you're a bloody adult.

That kid is an asshole lol

One time my kid (complicated relationship but I have custody of him) referred to me as his other mom and the person thought his bio mom had become a lesbian lol. I will say that he naturally started calling me mom instead of my name and I never felt any need to correct him, he basically does have two moms and I'll respect however he wants to define that.
