Re: Julie Deru: Part One
I was wondering why the comments are disabled and I kinda got answered here. I feel so sorry for Julie. Do you remember when London said that he changed carrier path because he wanted to spent more time with his kids. Well, now I think that isn't happening anyways. Even though they said something along the lines that this is not a "promotion" but I get the vibe that it is still a raise to their social status in the lds-community. I wonder what the preachy b-i-l Jared is thinking. Probably envious.
Re: Julie Deru: Part One
I think that they are expecting their Youtube careers to take off and live of that. I've also noticed that the viewers have increased so Youtube might happen to them as it has done for her sisters.

Neither one of them seemed that happy. If they didn't want the position, they shouldn't have taken it!callie73 wrote:sadly it's a non paid position. He needs a job with money. this is not going to help his family. it will only hurt it. Julie didn't seem too happy, more scripted. they are supposed to be cheerful in everything, hide real emotions when it comes to stuff like this. They should have turned it down.
Re: Julie Deru: Part One
I felt like Julie was holding back tears a couple of times. Not happy ones.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
I feel bad for Julie, she has a newborn and 3 other small kiddo's to manage, I couldn't imagine and don't even see how they will be able to continue with youtube. So was he allowed to turn it down or was he gently pushed into the position (not dissing the church, just curious) I am curious to why they picked Landon and picked him now, why not wait until the baby is a little bigger?

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
He absolutely could have turned it down.
Julie will now be responsible for getting herself and the kids to church while Landon is at early morning meanings, as well as sitting through sacrament without Landon.
It’s a demanding calling, but it does come with blessings (as with any calling).
I’m fairly certain they didn’t turn the calling down because as hard as it will be for Landon there will be blessings in exchange and they definitely could use some as the struggle with a career and school.

Maybe this is why Ellie was with Julie and the kids yesterday in a instastory.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
What do you mean with these blessings in exchange? (I'm not Mormon) Do you mean that they will receive ''blessings'' from God or ''blessings'' as another form of payment for unpaid position or something else?FakingIt_MakingIt wrote:He absolutely could have turned it down.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
If the calling comes from God then does that mean potentially any man (of course not woman ) could be called to leave their job and volunteer for the church? This is a hard one for me to swallow- but it could be that I just don't really understand it properly.

You don’t have to leave your paying job for his calling.natalka81 wrote:If the calling comes from God then does that mean potentially any man (of course not woman ) could be called to leave their job and volunteer for the church? And for the other post, yes, blessing from god. Like the ability to study and learn what he needs, for Julie to be able to handle the children on sundays, or anything really.

I bet the church will probably help them with tuition, rent or payment for their kids to go to a Mormon private school

Since he's working for them they'll probably cover rent and send them to their food pantry as well as cover any clothes the kids needGymChick wrote:I bet the church will probably help them with tuition, rent or payment for their kids to go to a Mormon private school

Oh I see. So this position could in effect be helping them out financially?twomommies wrote:Since he's working for them they'll probably cover rent and send them to their food pantry as well as cover any clothes the kids needGymChick wrote:I bet the church will probably help them with tuition, rent or payment for their kids to go to a Mormon private school

Also does anyone know how long a calling lasts for? Like is this permanent or has a 2 year term kind of thing?

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
Its not likely the church will be paying rent, tuition, or groceries. If they are in need of the bishops store house or financial help with rent they will have to go through the same process as any other member of the ward. Its not going to be given to him because of his calling.
The blessings we get from callings are not direct from the calling itself. It could be simple blessings like getting to know and love the ward members while he is serving, it could be someone in the ward getting to know them and see a need to help with the children, it could be someone getting to know landon and seeing his need for a good paying job. It wont be the church handing out monetary items to the family because of landons calling.
Typically his calling would last 5ish years, generally a bishop serves for 5 years and chooses his councillors, but there are other circumstances that could effect that so who knows exactly how long his calling will last.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
Okay I will preface my post with I have just started watching any of this family's vlogs. What I have learned from here is that neither one work a regular job-youtube is it correct? Hard for me to understand how financially they are able to do that since they have under 200,000 subscribers. Plus he is going to start classes to get his PhD. I am trying to figure out exactly how these folks make it financially! Now the new responsibility with the church, which sounds like an important and time consuming position.
Doesn't Joel have some position with the church too? Is Landon's position a higher one than Joel's?

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
For some PhD programs you get stipends if you’re working under a professor, or doing research or working for the university in some capacity. I’m not sure if that’s what Landon is anticipating happening, but a student stipend is usually only enough to support one student, definitely not enough to support a family of 6 with a newborn.sheltiefan wrote:Okay I will preface my post with I have just started watching any of this family's vlogs. The blessings sounds like advantages coming from knowing more people and them respecting you more because of the position/status in the community. We call that ''good brother -club'' (cronyism) where I'm from.FakingIt_MakingIt wrote:Its not likely the church will be paying rent, tuition, or groceries. Maybe Julie will start working weekend nights as a nurse again! She has never seemed confident in being a nurse though, she was nervous for the learning curve last time she started working and in a recent vlog she acted surprised that she was able to pass nursing school lol

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
I'm new to this vlog channel-how old is Porter? Calvin and his speech delays just had me wondering if Porter was going to have problems too. Calvin is better, but I still have trouble understanding him.
The ice cream deal-I agreed with the ones commenting on the vlog that they shouldn't have laughed at Porter disobeying what they told him to do. I also agreed with the ones saying that the parents not Emma should have took the cone away from Porter.
Is the Boy Scout troop part of their church-that's the impression I got from the vlog? I hope they don't drag their feet replacing him. You can get burnt out when overloaded!
