Quick question. Anyone see Rachelle’s mom at the hospital in the birth vlog? Where IS that woman?!

I'm pretty sure she visited with her sister. We probably didn't see her because she was in the corner shooting daggers at Justin. Image

Hahahahaha exactly. Just surprised she didn’t show her with Emma. That would have been a really heartwarming moment

Who keeps their days old baby awake “so she sweeeeeps weeeall goooood”???

A newborn is sleep, change, eat, sleep, change, eat (or in some similar order).

Be interesting to see how this all pans out, especially when Justin returns to his “job”?

I realise its summer - but why isn’t this baby dressed?? Here we are taught baby should be in one layer more than what we wear, and in bed one extra layer than what we have.

I'm always trying to dress my newborn because this makes me so nervous but he always hates it and starts squirming and crying and also ends up sweating a ton- even in just a onesie.

That’s not how it works Rachelle! Lol. You can’t put newborns on sleep schedules. Man, I surely hope she’s feeding Emma every 2-3 hours.

Also, am I the only mom who never used a swing or glider thing??

We did, but not for super newbies, and I had shocking refluxers that needed held 24/7. The swing was a sanity saver when they got to 2-3mths old so i could pee without holding a wiggly screaming baby

I always had the impression that swings were for putting babies to sleep not keep them awake? If they are trying to extend out the time before a nap - try a bath, baths knacked babies out and make them sleepier! But seriously newborns don’t keep time or schedules. Id be continuing on with a sort of attachment parenting style in the first few weeks - baby has easy access to feed, has lots of cuddles and helps with milk production etc. But then theres nothing quite like snuggling newborns! (Recovering baby addict... all my friends know ill be round in a shot to snuggle their newbies!)

Why in God’s name is she trying to keep her newborn up? I would never dream of it. We didn’t start TRYING to keep our awake before “bed time” until she was a month and even then I use trying very loosely. You can’t do that to a newborn. They’re going to sleep if they want to sleep and they need to sleep that much. Goodness gracious, this woman

Oh but she worked in a preschool everyone..so she's an expert..remember!?

By "rough night" she probably meant Emma was up every couple of hours to feed. She has no idea how newborns work so now she's trying to keep her awake to sleep better? Um Rachelle it doesn't work like that. Newborns sleep all the time, and eat every 2-3 hours, god I hope she knows this or im actually genuinely worried for her.

Oh my god. The baby voice is genuinely repulsive. I’m unfollowing her on Instagram too now. I can’t with it. Also keeping her awake? Why is she like this? It’s like she thought she was going to birth a 2 year old because that’s all she knows how to deal with

I’m not sure how you could even contemplate putting a newborn on a schedule. They do the same thing over and over again every 2-3 hours. If she wants to continue breastfeeding that also means more waking up because breast fed babies get hungry more often. She may want to do a bit of reading before deciding to do things a certain way

My cousin did the same thing keeping her newborn awake. It backfired a ton. But they are new parents and will learn as things go along.

It’s pretty common sense to not keep a newborn awake though. My midwives even told us not to implement any sort of schedule until they’re older. Newborns need a ton of sleep and keeping them awake for your own selfish reasons is stupid. She’s not going to get a good night sleep for a very long time anyways. There’s no point.

It was odd to me that when the put Emma on her chest she wasn’t really saying much. Usually the moms are talking to their babies but she really didn’t do that.

Yes I realize that. I give people a pass when they are first time parents just trying to figure it out. My cousins baby was always so unhappy. My aunt would keep telling her she is a newborn and needs to sleep. She eventually went with the flow and figured it out. She is getting ready to have her second and her daughter is only 13 months. So hopefully she learned.

I thought today’s vlog was sweet. It seems little Emma has calmed her anxiety a lot. She looked really relaxed and right at home with her new baby.

I didn’t say anything when they put my son on my chest. I was in complete shock and just relieved he was finally here. Every mother is different, I guess.
