I brought up Ruby’s pill issue that she has briefly spoken about on Bonnie’s thread and someone asked for more details. I really can’t remember anything lol. Can someone remind me of what all she has said about it/ the timeframe? I’m not totally misremembering this am I?

We know about it because of an Instagram story in which she posted a picture of herself from when Russell was a baby. In the picture she had circled parts of her face I think (it wasn’t at all clear what she was indicating by doing that). She captioned it with a statement that vaguely resembled “ at this time in my life I was high on pain killers for months and Kevin bought me my first phone”. Please forgive the paraphrasing. She provided no other context and never brought it up again, her face looked fine in the parts that were circled so there was speculation of maybe migraines or something like that.

We do know that she has referred to Julie and Russel’s early years as a period of struggle both emotionally and financially. She said Julie had a flat head cause she never picked her up and Russell broke his femur because she dropped him. She also had a long history of miscarriages. By putting all of these pieces together I believe she might have tried to cope with depression (postpartum?) and anxiety by abusing painkillers which might have started as a prescription for a real medical problem. I think she had a come to Jesus moment, for sober and got pregnant with Eve which she often suggests has been a bonus child.

Wow! I am shocked considering Shari thinks happiness is a choice! I remember watching her miscarriage video, I honestly don’t know if I watched it all. She seemed cold and disconnected. I remember in a video she said that one of favorite moments with Julie/ something “special” she did with Julie was gave her a bath and put a clean dress on her.

^^ the happiness is a choice thing is one of those things that a lot of mormon kids are told. It’s true on a small scale ( many times you can change your attitude andtirn a bad day into a good one) but it obviously does not apply to larger scale scenarios and certainly not to people who are clinically depressed or who don’t have their basic needs met. That said, Shari is too young and too sheltered to see beyond her perspective and while it might make her a bit judgmental holding that belief is likely to be beneficial to her at this stage of life. I remember that comment Ruby made about putting Julie in clean clothes, broke my heart.

Thank you guys! That was basically what I was remembering but wanted to be sure. Looks like Bonnie, Ellie, and Ruby have all gone through pretty dark times. We are just fortunate (or unfortunate?) enough to have seen/are watching Ellie and Bonnie’s play out in real time.

Ok, so I'm a little shocked because I actually thought the bullying video was not that bad.
The advice her mom gave her of not talking at all about your bullies is good.
I wish she had spoken about how to put an end to bullying you also have to make sure YOU are not a bully and how you can stop your friends from bullying.

^ I agree. I think she did a good job and didn't talk down to the viewers which was really nice. I also think we as a society need to talk more about what to do to prevent people from being bullies. It's kind of like how there's so much info out there for women on how to avoid getting raped or assaulted but not enough for men (and women) on how to not rape and assault.

It's the same with professional sports people, actors, singers etc. People who are rich and famous get lots of things for free, which seems pretty unfair, but that's just the way it is. I'm not jealous, since there are lots of downsides to being famous as well.

What I really don't like is what for example the Gardners do: Having their followers send them tons of stuff which they don't need at all like toys and clothes and then not donating them but through them in a closet or basement never to be seen again.

But I don't blame the 8Passengers for taking this opportunity when offered to them. All the kids really seemed to enjoy it, which is good to see.

They let Chad drive a dirt bike through the desert where he almost flew off a cliff, toppled himself and the bike multiple times and then he got on the highway to catch up with others endangering other people as well as himself. Birth control, people. Use it.

This doesn't really have anything to do with Ruby... But I vaguely remember a famous person saying (can't remember who) that they received more free items when they were wealthy enough to pay for them than they did when they had no money and could've used the free items.

It's a little backwards.

I think it's more about how ungrateful and entitled this family come across sometimes (incl the children) compared to other Youtube families.

Yes it makes me SICK. I honestly told myself, "self... you're just jealous." But no. It's not that. There are a very few big money making youtubers out there who do not act like that and do not make me sick.

For God sakes they are making home videos and making bank. You should be thanking your lucky stars!
