I just had a thought that one of Cullen’s addictions might be gambling. Katie in her livestream from a few days ago mentioned s that Cullen would be gone for a few hours while getting a loaf of bread from the store. Of course he could be at Britney’s smoking weed but he could also be at convenience stores playing Keno or whatever. I think she mentioned not knowing where he would be so he probably wasn’t at his sister’s house during these episodes.

Or at a bar somewhere? I remember once on the vlogs she called him out on this (not specifically a bar, just the situation). He went to get a haircut and was gone for hours with nothing to show for it.

Not discounting gambling at all bc it could totally be true, but i feel like that would be something he would talk about. Or at least something we would notice.. Placing bets on football or UFC, showing scratchers (or at least seeing them in the background or when they would show cleaning out the cars) or talking about buying tickets for the big megamillions drawings. Although it could be something he was hiding from Katie too, and that's why it hasn't been on the vlogs at all. I'm still pretty confidant it's booze and some sort of drug. Weed or pills...

Didn't S&N lie about losing a child though? I don't think that is comparable to someone having an addiction issue. Plus Sam tried to call Cullen out for liking a tweet (how childish on Sam's part) while he was holding Gaines. There was never talk on the vlog about how they felt about that situation, nor did he trash talk Sam. All cullen did was like a tweet and Sam tried to come at him for it. That was what their sit down was about, sharing their side of the story bc so many people were talking about it. I would never compare lying about losing a child to someone having a disease like addiction, those are on two very different levels. Most people tend to keep addiction to themselves until they are ready to work on those problems. If they had sat down and gave Shay shit for his addictions, then yes, glass houses are appropriate, but what Sam and Nia did was disgusting.

Question.. does length of vlog matter when it comes to producing income? I get that longer vlogs = more time to get ads in, but in general do longer vlogs make more money than shorter ones?
I’ve heard it does from some youtubers but who really knows!

The length of the video does matter. YouTube rewards channels that keep people on the platform longer. I imagine the majority of their views they have left watch the entire video no matter what so he’s milking whatever is left of their audience. YouTube assumes that your content is good if you audience is watching the entire video so they will promote videos that have longer watch times.

From what I’ve heard, the video has to be at least 10 minutes long.

Listen to the latest podcast. Cullen is doing his best to dismiss things, but he also says a few more things I think Katie will take issue with. It seems to me hat he’s stuck between his sister’s willingness to be open, and Katie’s need to maintain the perfect image. B comes across as far more authentic than Cullen. He tries to be open, but it’s pretty honest he catches himself and then tries to minimize what he just said.

That's because Katie has his balls in his hands and is controlling Cullen. I think Katie is super controlling of any situations her and cullen is going through. She's too afraid to taint her perfect little image. I wish Cullen would just tell her to f off and let the man talk. You can tell when they are both together by her expression in her face she's controlling what he is saying.

So I watched the latest Dont Tell Mom, and it was pretty interesting. Cullen addressed a lot of the speculation that’s been going on in the comments. I’ll try to summarize what was talked about!

1. Cullen said that while addicted to painkillers when he was 22, the one drug he was most recently using was weed. He said he used to buy painkillers from his elderly neighbor for $2 a tablet. He also said that Katie didn’t/doesn’t know about that until now.
2. Katie did not kick him out of the house like some where wondering. Cullen said that he removed himself from them in order to begin his “detoxing” of sorts.
3. Cullen admitted that he was pretty much smoking weed every night.
4. He did say that their marriage was starting to fail and that that was one of the reality checks that helped him decide to become sober.
5. He said that Katie was not totally against him using/drinking for a long time, but she put her foot down recently. He said that she was allowing him in order to try and make him happy. He talked about the weed run he was doing that made her change her mind on the whole thing.
6. Cullen and Brittany both briefly mention how their dad was frequently in jail while they were growing up, and about some of the major fights their parents would have at 3 in the morning.
7.They talk about how their mother was their saving grace through everything, and that she has always tried to support and help them.
8. Brittany talks about how she started using hardcore drugs right out of high school.
9. Cullen mentions how “booger sugar” (cocaine?) used to drive him and Brittany apart because they used to do it together but then it made them second guess each other. (Stealing from each other etc.)
10. He admits that the first 7 years of his and Katie’s marriage was full of lies and deceit. He said that they broke up at one point before they were married because she found out about the cocaine and he had to fight for her to come back.
11. He said that one of his dealers reached out to him this week asking if he was ready for more and he was able to text back telling them that he was done, and he was able to block their number.
12. He said that talking about it all publicly has really helped him come to terms with it all and it has been really life changing.

That’s pretty much the whole podcast! Sorry for the long post, but I figured most of y’all wouldn’t have the hour to sit down and watch it.

Ok podcast recap... (i was doing some accounting work while listening to the first 20ish mins so I'll have to recall that from what stuck with me..)

Cullen's drugs of choice is weed and "hard liquor". He hates the speculations but admits he knows he set himself up for speculation and wants to clear the air. Fully admits that he loves weed. Says that he knows people will say that you can't get addicted to weed, but he was addicted to the mind altering aspects. Know he had a problem with weed when he was in high school (looking back at it now) bc if he couldnt find weed he would go by random pills from the gas station counter to try and mimic that high. From how i took it, he admits to having an addictive personality and from what i assume he knows he can'r be clean and kick his drinking habit if he's still smoking. Says its not pills, although he does admit that he became addicted to Loratabs when he was first living and going to school in Tallahassee bc he had a neighbor who was a Vietnam vet who he would smoke weed with on the regular. The old man got pain pills and would sell them to Cullen for $2 a pop. He didn't realize he was addicted until he moved away from that apt and had to come off them and had withdrawals. Britney talks about her ex JJ that just recently passed in a car accident (the one Cullen went to the funeral with her) was hooked on pills and suboxion. OH! And Cullen and Britney both said that he is not addicted to porn (bc a lot of comments were saying that) he says that since he grew up in a house with 3 sisters and a mom he never had problems with porn bc he knew if he got caught he would get his ass beat by all 4 of them. He also has never cheated on Katie and that infidelity in relationships is "one of his biggest pet peeves". He admits to lying to Katie and covering things up for a lot of their relationship when it came to his drug use. For example he says when he starts talking about his problem in Tallahassee that he had never told Katie about this and that he was sorry, it was just another thing he kept from her regarding drug use...

(Ok now i'm watching and recapping at the same time.. if i missed anything super important with that first bit please, someone fill in my blanks...)

Addresses the comments stating that Katie doesn't seem supportive, said people assumed Katie made the decision to pack the kids up and leave, but he says that HE was the one who packed up and left on his own bc he needed some time to focus on what step he needed to take next. He wasn't super clear but i think he has been "clean" for a week and a half. Talks about not being able to sleep, waking up the next night thinking he pissed himself but it was just him completely drenched in sweat (2 nights in a row). He says that the 3rd night he realizes that he can't sleep bc he has been either smoking or drinking (or both) to put himself to sleep at night. He has been sleeping better since those 3 nights at the beginning and he realizes it was detox effects.

He confesses that his and katie's relationship has had super highs and super lows since day one of their relationship. And talks about how that he knows that it shows on the vlogs sometimes but that we pretty much don't even know the half of it. Britney tells him that she thinks he has been self medicating his depression and he agrees with that. He also says that Katie did know sometimes how bad it was but a lot of the stuff in the past he hid from her. He said at one point (and i assume hes talking about self medicating his depression) that she "was on board" with his drinking and smoking. I dont think he really means she was ok with it, but she stopped trying to control him and let him do whatever he wanted bc she realized she couldnt control him. "She was allowing it to make me happy.." That's when things got really bad. He talks about one sunny Saturday shes outside with the kids and he's headed to the weed man, and she knew he was going, and he had her track him on the GPS on her phone in case something happened. He told her he would call her when he got there, and call her when the deed was done.. He says that she told him that she realized that what she was doing wasn't ok bc here she is worrying her husband might get shot or arrested while she should be playing with her kids and being in that moment. "Just think about Brooks and Gaines being at home missing me bc i was in jail.."

Britney confesses that they know how that is bc they were sitting at home while their dad was in jail for drinking and driving. They have lots of traumatizing stories about the fights Berry and Howard would have, laying in bed hearing plates smashing against the walls. They are going to get Berry on the podcasts to talk about her struggles with Howard and with the kids during that time. They were really respectful of their father though, saying that they want to be truthful that when he would get drunk he was not a good person, but was a very supportive and loving father.. when he wasn't drinking. (Which sounds like a lot of same stories that you hear from children of addicts)

Britney tells a story... she was addicted to drugs very young. Was graduated and out of the house at 17. Dabbled in every kind of drug. Became addicted to cocaine... Cullen says "I was hooked on that with you..." anyway story goes on, she 21ish was dirty skinny and had no money, desperate and the only time she admits she KNEW she was addicted in the moment. (Also says shes been clean "from that" for 15 years) She was in a bad part of time, all she wanted was coke, thought she was going to die on the street. This was her rock bottom. She called Berry for help then and Berry came and got her and locked her down at her house, only letting her leave the house for meetings. She asked Berry to take her to a meeting, which was a mile from her dealer. She walked in, waited for Berry to drive off and then went to her dealer for drugs. When Berry was supposed to pick her up she dipped out and stayed at her dealers house why her mom waited in the parking lot for hours for her to come out of the meeting. She said that was one of the things she regrets and is the sorriest for. That it has hurt her since she did it.

Cullen says that it had gotten so bad with the coke that it turned he and Britney against each other, fighting and stealing from each other.

Talks about wanting to help destroy the stigma that surrounds talking about addiction. That he had a lot of people confessing that now they realize they have addictions since Cullen was talking about his, and that was what makes all this worth it.

Britney does say that she "picks and chooses" concerning AA/NA and that's what "works for her" and that she still has a lot of books and daily meditations that she still does in her life.

The first 7 years of their marriage was full of lies and deceits. Says that they broke up at one point bc of his lies about 2 years into dating.. , he was hiding his cocaine use and she caught him and they "bringing back boxes of each others things and giving back promise rings" kinda broke up. That was when he stopped his cocaine use bc he wanted to be in katie's life, and why he says she saved his life. This was also when he and Britney went separate ways. He stopped the "booger sugar" (never heard it called that and i have to admit that nickname made me giggle) and Britney spiraled even further into her cocaine addiction.

He says that he would leave to cool off when they were arguing bc he didn't want to argue in front of the kids and he would go drive around and wind up at the drug dealers house. That was his way of coping.. but now he realizes that that behavior just added to his stress.

He was contacted by his dealer this week by text "Yo, what's up? You ready?" and he text back "No. I'm done" and blocked they guys number. Said he hadn't even told Katie about that. With zero hesitation, he told the guy he was done and blocked him. Said he didn't even think twice about it.

Bryan and Jared both have called him and supported him "behind the scenes".

Britney calls him out for acting like he's clean for good already.. she said "You've been done for 2 weeks, hold your horses... you are mighty cocky, take this one day at a time.."

I think thats the high points, they end with just discussing how they are planning on working all this talk into the DTM podcast. Thinking about adding another day to the schedule just for Cullen to discuss his addiction/recovery.

Long winded, so sorry for that, but this was a interesting podcast!

I think Katie is in the room with them too, i heard some coughs in the background that were not from B or C... maybe he would feel more comfortable if she wasn't there, but i assume after the bombshell last week, she wasn't taking any chances on not being there for what he had to say. This bothers me too. If she's so adamant that this is his story and his struggle and people are only allowed to ask him things, then why is she policing what he says?? She can't have it both ways.

I think people should listen to the podcast, what Cullen says, and how he says things don’t add up. Like he talks about not being addicted to alcohol exactly, but drinking too much. He then also lists his drinks of choice in a way that only an alcoholic would describe it. Like how a food addict might list their favourite binge foods.

He also said he would be tempted to do anything and everything. Making a joke that if there was a dirty mushroom on the ground, he would take it. If this is the case, his “recovery” has been far too easy. Either he was embellishing the addiction for attention, or he hasn’t hit rock bottom yet. I also don’t buy that weed was his problem drug. Nope, not at all. I’m guessing it was the more “acceptable” drug. You don’t generally sit at home hoping your husband isn’t going to get himself killed or arrested when he goes to buy a little weed.

He also waffles between saying he occasionally did weed, and saying he needed “something” to help sedate him every night. His story doesn’t make sense.

Everyone should listen.

See i thought about this too, thinking thats kinda an overreaction... but i think Katie has been so sheltered and so anti weed her whole life that she really assumes that the weed man's house is as dangerous as the gutted out crack house with junkies in every corner ready to jump him. I don't think she understands that everyone from stay at home moms, to grandfathers to clean cut businessmen could be the weed man. Hell, she probably has a dealer in her neighborhood she doesn't even suspect.

Not discounting your thoughts on it, bc he seems to talk A LOT about being super addicted to weed and nothing about alcohol this time around which does make me think there may be something else going on here. Most people wouldnt consider smoking a joint at night to help you wind down and go to sleep a big enough issue to run to an NA meeting. I mean hell, it's medically prescribed for that exact reason. It almost makes me wonder if either he's downplaying the drinking bc he wanted to focus on drugs specifically this time, OR Katie told him he either needed to get out of the house or get professional help with his smoking or he wasnt allowed there, OR.. lol.. it's like you say and there is something else he is dabbling in that made him want to seek help. I do think it could also be that he knows that weed can lead to harder drugs with some people, and since he has this addictive personality and has been hooked on harder things in the past he knows he needs help before things get out of control.

I agree about the drug lately not being just weed. Cullen admits to being addicted to "booger sugar" (cocaine) at one point., and how it broke them up early on. So she isn't completely naïve to the drug issue, and its being going on for as long as she's known him.

I can understand that Katie doesn't want to share, but Cullen does and as she so adamantly points out its his story to share.

Yeah. I think you are downplaying it too. I got the impression it was a lot more serious than him just acting like weed is extreme because Katie thinks so. Katie knew he smoked when they were dating and don’t have a problem until she found out he was snorting cocaine. Allowing your husband to go out and buy drugs, and bring them back to your home where your kids live is a BIG DEAL to most people. Katie isn’t as prudish about drugs as people like to believe.

I think he backpeddled on the alcohol issue because he was seen with a drink in the vlog. People speculated it was before he got clean. He mentions in the podcast going out to the Mexican restaurant after. B interrupts him and says he’s “getting ahead of himself” because I think she’s smart enough to realize he isn’t as “recovered” as he likes to believe.

They also attribute a lot of their addiction problems to their dad, and mention hearing their parents fight about it at night. Earlier in the podcast Cullen mentions that he and Katie fight about it all the time. Clearly he lacks the self awareness to realize history is repeating itself with his kids. They are listening to the fighting. Cullen isn’t just the son of an addict like he seems to think.... he is a full on one himself.

That's the really sad thing. Cullen's an addict. And he claims Katie drank right along side him, now she might not being doing drugs with him but she clearly condoned his behaviour in their house and around their kids. Those kids are growing up in a toxic home.

I haven't listened but I've been reading the recaps to my SO and we both agree with you 100%. He is downplaying the drug he is currently struggling with. It sure as hell isn't just pot.

I wonder what made Katie draw the line? Her own journey to getting healthier? Because according to Cullen she knew while they were dating he was into drugs, so she not only stayed with him (after a brief breakup), but married him and very actively chose to have 2 kids with him. If she hadn't gone on a path of self improvement would she care? If she was still drinking and staying up all night with him while he did drugs and drank Cullen wouldn't be talking about any of this. She would still be hanging out with the kids while he went and picked his drugs up, they would still be staying up late drinking (and at least one of them doing drugs) while the kids slept upstairs.

I don't mean to sound like i'm downplaying his addiction or drug use in general, that wasn't the intent. I was agreeing with you that it's odd she was worried her husband was going to get shot while he was out buying a little weed. I do agree that bringing drugs into a home with children in it is a big deal, but i'm also not going to bash ANYONE with kids smoking weed, bc first off that would make me a huge hypocrite, but also bc times are changing with weed. Of course you have to treat it like its a loaded gun that you don't want your kids to find and get into, but smoking weed actually makes some people parent better. I think what i'm meaning to say is that Katie's reaction to Cullen smoking some weed is either a huge overreaction and a product of her being uneducated about weed... OR he's actually doing something much more hardcore than what he's admitting too and she has reason to be so worried about him going and scoring some smoke. Or maybe since she knows his history with harder drugs, she cant trust he's only going out to get weed.
