Re: 8 Passengers: Controlling Mothers aren’t powerful. Part #10
I think if they had Russell tested for Autism and they determined he was indeed on the spectrum, we would all know about it. All Ruby cares about is views and just think of all the "content" she could have with an Autism diagnosis. I think she would exploit it and go for sympathy views. I myself have 2 children who fall on the opposite ends of the Autism scale and I do see some similar traits in Russell. But I'm not a doctor so I'm not trying to say he does or doesn't fall on the spectrum. If he does, I hope they are getting him the therapies he needs.

I am not sure what your experience is, but don't you typically have to "fight" for a diagnosis for kids that are high functioning? I suspect Ruby thinks you can swing by the family doctor (who doesn't know your child/family from a hole in the wall), and grab an autism diagnosis on the way to the store.Bollie_Dollie_4_Life wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 5:47 pm I think if they had Russell tested for Autism and they determined he was indeed on the spectrum, we would all know about it. l am not sure she is educated enough, motivated enough, or caring enough to follow through on a potential problem/evaluation more complex than antibiotics for ingrown toenail. If Abby was my child, she would have been to the doctor 10x over for her years of vomiting and crying due to unbearable pain. Julie made it to the pediatrician with "stress tics" and Ruby claimed the doctor told her to just pretend it wasn't happening....maybe that's why we don't really see Julie on vlogs anymore....

The fact that Ruby backed off her control at all and let Russell quit the cello makes me think she did have him assessed. I don’t know if he was formally diagnosed or cleared, but I would bet a doctor told her to adjust her expectations.

Re: 8 Passengers: Controlling Mothers aren’t powerful. Part #10
My son was very high functioning, and we didn't have to fight for a diagnosis. Maybe because even though he was high functioning, he was talking about wishing he could set the school on fire (dad had serious anger issues-- still does. My son doesn't anymore). And because he went to the same doctor most of his life.Kattiness Everdeen wrote:I am not sure what your experience is, but don't you typically have to "fight" for a diagnosis for kids that are high functioning? I guess whether or not you have to fight for a diagnosis depends on the situation. It's called a spectrum for a reason. And Russell's tantrums are at least indicative of anger issues. A dad shouldn't be afraid his son is going to "freak out" if he helps with a broken finger. One of the biggest red flags with my son, that I haven't been able to see with Russell was a complete inability to make decisions. You couldn't ask him to pick out a treat at the grocery store. He would get overwhelmed and melt down. You had to break it down into smaller things like a choice between two items. I have never seen Ruby offer Russell a choice in the vlogs.

Re: 8 Passengers: Controlling Mothers aren’t powerful. Part #10
A diagnosis cannot be made by a family doctor. You have to get a doctor who is qualified to diagnosis something like Autism. We saw 2 specialists both Neuropsychologist (wanted 2 opinions) and it takes MONTHS and sometimes 6 months or more to even get an appointment. Once at the appointment, you go through hours and hours (it took about 8 hours total) of testing and then finally after they have time to go over the testing, have an appointment with the neuropsychologist and go over testing and have a formal diagnosis (if needed) and talk about what to do (and not do) from there. **This is just my experience as a Mom of a child with Autism and also a special education teacher**Kattiness Everdeen wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 6:08 pmI am not sure what your experience is, but don't you typically have to "fight" for a diagnosis for kids that are high functioning? We were lucky. Didn't have to wait near as long for appointments!
That sounds rough!

Re: 8 Passengers: Controlling Mothers aren’t powerful. Part #10
I’m just catching up on the recent two videos and this family always makes me go WTF. So Chad straight up said he spent an HOUR going through Julie’s personal belongings in her room so he could find a key (that she purposely hid from him) to open a box where she stashes Oreos. Then Ruby immediately says “I just looked in that box, they aren’t in there”. Wtf? Chad doesn’t get in trouble at all, but of course he doesn’t, because Ruby does the exact same thing. What a violation of privacy for a girl that already has to share a room with her obnoxious little sister.
Also... omg Chad’s breakfast serving size was what I would eat when I was 5 years old! And I was a tiny kid that struggled to even be on the growth charts early on! She also mentioned that the breakfast was high in protein, so it will keep them full until dinner. Uhh what about lunch? Then Ruby remembered she’s going out to lunch. So what Chad and Eve? They just get to skip lunch at home after eating that tiny breakfast?
Julie seemed so uncomfortable being filmed with the whole Eve secret thing. Or it was just a really weird staged thing from Ruby. She always has to embarrass her somehow like saying she wasn’t wearing pants.

Re: 8 Passengers: Controlling Mothers aren’t powerful. Part #10
I thought I was the only one who thought the secret thing was staged. Eve couldn't keep a secret if her life depended on it (but she didn't know one). Ruby reminds Julie at one point that "she could have paid Eve the $20 she asked". Either Julie was given $20 for this purpose, or Julie has an insane unlimited disposable income for a 9 yr old, that her mom monitors closely.....she gave Eve $26 in 48 hrs.
I also find it strange a parent would be gushing about what a good child she has, for paying people to keep secrets AT ALL. I assume Julie agreed to the farce, for the attention, or money. The secret has to be that Ruby gave Julie a $20 budget to "produce" the "secret skit" with Eve. Ruby thought she was "a good sister/taking care of Eve/has a big heart", because she gave her 80% of the budget to get Eve to cooperate with the production. Leaving Julie only $4 for her trouble, and to be embarrassed in front of millions with no pants on.

One question Ruby, mother of the year? Will you sit with no pants on and just a towel in you private bathroom to be video taped? Why is it ok to do it to your daughter who is a minor and viewed worldwide by who knows who you disgusting parent, get your priorities straight seriously!

Re: 8 Passengers: Controlling Mothers aren’t powerful. Part #10
Did anyone watch the Shari/Kesley Q&A?
Shari talked about the multiple boys she kissed in Middle School and how she is going to have one main boyfriend at 16, but he must understand she will date anyone she wants to at the same time. Just like her mom did! I wonder if her boyfriend is allowed to date other girls, or if he will be expected to sit home on his hands while his girlfriend prowls the town to see if there is anything better out there.

So her dating life is one big free for all until someone proposes at 18? Lol this religion/family is SO STRANGEKattiness Everdeen wrote: ↑Thu Feb 21, 2019 9:19 am Did anyone watch the Shari/Kesley Q&A?

....and that is why she too will end up in a loveless marriage just like her mom! I hope she sticks to her studies and wakes up to the real joys of the world rather than planning to bag different boys!Kattiness Everdeen wrote: ↑Thu Feb 21, 2019 9:19 am Did anyone watch the Shari/Kesley Q&A?

There is a video where Ruby and Kevin talk about that a (their) relationship is not based on chemistry or finding "the one and only" but about finding a good partner and then choosing to spend the life together.endof wrote: ↑Thu Feb 21, 2019 11:21 am....and that is why she too will end up in a loveless marriage just like her mom! I guess Shari is going to do to Brevin what Bonnie did to Joel.
Their concept of love/dating/relationships is so incredibly messed up. Basically the kids are allowed to be in love with someone (have a crush....) as long as they are under 18 and not allowed to date. But when they turn 16 they should not fall in love with a person but date/kiss around as much as they can and then choose a partner based on a list and marry him as soon as soon as they are 18. It is so sad.
Re: 8 Passengers: Controlling Mothers aren’t powerful. Part #10
So Kesley and her family are Mormon too, right? I’ve only watched a bit of them so far and haven’t heard them mention it. I’m guessing they are based on who they associate with and I doubt Ruby would let her son “date” a non-Mormon. Even though Shana can be a little much I do have to say I enjoy them waaaay more than 8 passengers. The Leroy’s are definitely using 8 passengers for views and laughing about how weird they are once they go home lol.

They are Mormon, they just seem to be slightly more educated and less dysfunctional than the Griffiths/Frankes. Kesley seemed appalled by a lot of the things Shari said, especially her kissing exploits in middle school....I am not sure they are more than business partners based on their interactions.Elah_w wrote: ↑Thu Feb 21, 2019 6:25 pm So Kesley and her family are Mormon too, right? Thanks! I figured they were. They seem... pretty normal. More like the Mormons I grew up with in San Diego that I didn’t know were Mormon until it came up. I think they’re a sweet family minus some of the staged YouTube stuff exploiting kesleys “relationship”Kattiness Everdeen wrote:They are Mormon, they just seem to be slightly more educated and less dysfunctional than the Griffiths/Frankes. Did anyone watch the Leroy’s video where the girls went and got swig(?)? And the mom said something about the soda there being the Mormon beer. Shari’s reaction/look on her face was priceless.

If any guys she intends to date, watch their vlogs... and see how she is, I am pretty sure they would run for the hills. That in-car conversation between Shanna, Kesley, Shari and Abby was hilarious. - I actually laughed out loud when Kesley pseudo-asked: "What does the pistol hand gesture mean?" - Her mother absolutley knew what it meant and she gave a amused-shocked face reaction, but it went way over the heads of the shelterd innocence of Shari and Abby. LOL
Re: 8 Passengers: Controlling Mothers aren’t powerful. Part #10
So many things wrong with the Julie watch situation but the worst part was how ruby handled it. Laughing hysterically about it?! Umm there are major issues. Ruby has no idea what her kids are up to.
