Avatar Issues Explained

Post by kittykat » Fri Aug 24, 2012 3:51 pm

Hey guys! I'm sure most of you have noticed there is a strict limit on avatar sizing. For now, the limits are 120x120 pixels - no more, no less. Because of this, every time you try to post an avatar that isn't that size, it won't work. A handful of you have figured out how to size it that way, but I'm guessing most of you haven't. I found a website that allows you to change the exact dimensions of a picture..

http://www.resizeyourimage.com/

At the top, just change the dimensions to 120x120! I'm sorry if this is dumbing it down too much, but I want everyone who likes having an avatar to be able to have one!

Thank you! All I have is iPhoto, and while I'm sure you can resize with it, 'm not that familiar with photo editing software. So, this dumbed down version was perfect for me. My avatar isn't exactly great. But at least I have one now. I'm a little too excited about this ;-). :tu:

Makes me wish I could just give everyone on GG a copy of PhotoShop, because I think it's the best image editing software. However, I'm not quite rich enough for that yet! :sadm:

If that website doesn't work for anyone, try fotoflexer. That's what I used :D

One question, I put up a signature earlier, why would't it show up?

I resized it, and I am still getting this notification: The avatar’s filesize must be between 0 and 9 KiB.

I tried to resize with Photoshop and it was still too big KB-wise. :/

I can host avatars that are too big in filesize in my dropbox, just pm or post here with your avatar and I'll upload it and give you a link back to use. Any filesize image works with it hosted elsewhere but it just has to fit the 120x120 req. I can resize that too as long as it's not animated - pc cleanup so I've uninstalled most design progs I use atm.

Would someone mind just giving some quick information on how to change the FILE SIZE (without Photoshop)?

go to: http://www.resizeyourimage.com/
upload an image
then where you see the boxes that have "zoom" "width" "height"
click the width box, a little thing will pop-up, change the number in it to 120
same thing with the height

hope my instructions are clear..

Is that what I need to click? I have Elements 8 (it came free with my computer so I can't complain) so I may have missed it/it's in a weird spot. Thanks though!

Oh ok - I have the full PhotoShop CS5.0 - I don't know if Elements comes with the "Save for Web" option. Sorry!

You can just link the photo you want for you Avatar and paste it on the "Link off-site:".

Yep, what ^losiento^ up there said works to get around the file-size issue. I use Tinypic.

Could someone explain to me how to put a gif in my signature? Thank you

You link it the same way you do an image, using the image tags. Personally, I upload my gif to tinypic and copy the image code.

Is there anyway to resize a GIF if it is too big?
