BYU just started selling caffeinated sodas on campus recently.

Then why not let them have coffee or tea?

That's what I'd like to know. I asked up thread earlier and didn't get a response yet.
If mormons can drink soda with caffeine then why can't mormons drink coffee or certain teas? What's the "ingredient" to coffee and other teas if its not caffeine? And what about decaf?
Still genuinely curious.

Even when it comes to Church-owned schools or buildings, policies regarding caffeine are not consistent. For example, LDS Business College and the Joseph Smith Memorial Building on Temple Square sell caffeinated drinks while BYU still does not. Regarding BYU's caffeine policy, BYU spokeswoman Carri Jenkins said, “BYU has simply chosen not to sell caffeinated beverages on campus."

Official Church Stance on Caffeine

With Mormons sharing so many differing opinions (not to mention second- and third-hand sources) it's no wonder fact and doctrine often blur with fiction when it comes to caffeine. So what is the Church's official stance on caffeine? What have prophets said on the topic?

In a 2012 Mormon Newsroom article clarifying media misconceptions of Mormonism, the Church stated: "Despite what was reported, the Church revelation spelling out health practices (Doctrine and Covenants 89) does not mention the use of caffeine. The Church’s health guidelines prohibit alcoholic drinks, smoking or chewing of tobacco, and “hot drinks”—taught by Church leaders to refer specifically to tea and coffee."

Magic underwear is offensive. The garments simply symbolize covenants made in the temple.

No offense meant towards you or any other Mormon who shares this page EXCEPT the Fraudners. Reference has been made using this phrase regarding them ONLY the 2+ years I’ve been a part of this group. I’m sorry you were offended. Duly noted.

The church probably doesn’t have shares in those companies Image so they don’t want their disciples to spend money on addictive products they aren’t getting the profits from. Image not facts, but not a huge stretch of the imagination

Fully running with crazy ideas... that might not be a stretch

Caffeine is mind altering?? So if the disciples drink lots of it they might go to the dark side and decide church isn’t for them after all??

Just saying what I have been told, but the guidelines say "hot drinks". They were written before sodas were available.
I went to Seminary with my friend, and used to get in philosophical discussions with the teacher. We'd argue about whether or not Jesus drank wine. It was the first "miracle" he performed-- turning water into wine because they ran out at a wedding.
I'm not LDS, so I don't want to spread misinformation. I just know that caffeine used to be definitely forbidden, and now it's not as much.
Sorry. I'm digressing. The Gardners are not representative of the faith. They're hypocrites and greedy. They may wear garments but I seriously think it's to try and show off how "devout" they are.

I honestly have no clue why coffee and black/green tea aren't allowed. I know many members who drink it anyways.
I do know the reason the Word of Wisdom came to be was because Emma Smith, Joseph smiths first wife, hated how disorderly the men in the church got after drinking and hated cleaning the chew spit off the floor after meetings.

I truly don’t understand why coffee and tea are deemed not ok yet my LDS friend downs diet Mountain Dew like water and that’s apparently acceptable? The rationale that I’ve seen before that coffee and tea are addicting is illogical to me.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Very true. Anything can be addicting based on the amount of dopamine the brain administers as a response.

Anything.

I just watched a few IG stories from some of the other ladies that were on this Seneshit vacation. Some of the husbands did dress up as a character and others didn’t. Pretty much every single husband that didn’t dress up as a character at least dressed up decently. They weren’t wearing their clothes that they wear to work out in the yard with old, smelly black tennis shoes. I would have been so embarrassed if that was my husband. Of course my husband has more class in his little finger than these two dipshits do combined.

He looked so down after his massage. She did say he was late getting back so maybe she bitched him out for that but she is usually the one that’s running late. I wonder if he did have a man massage him so he was disappointed by that. Well, then again maybe he did enjoy getting rubbed and touched by a man. He seems to enjoy that a lot. Maybe while he was gone she found out that he’s been going on IG and liking so many women’s pictures. That’s so disrespectful to your wife and it makes her look so stupid and ridiculous to keep putting up with it. Hey Asswipe, what Fatcrack is doing is not right or normal.

Some of the KADs are so damn dumb. A few asked if that was the queen he had his picture taken with. Are they serious?
