I think it isn't a bad idea either and I do think with his higher education level being a graduate student in Exercise and Health Promotion and being a Certified Athletic Trainer, he is pretty close to being an expert. It would be interesting to hear what knowledge he has gained in fasting and other diets. I'm not sure why he wouldn't look to find a position as an Athletic Trainer since he wishes to teach or promote health, this job would have flexible hours, and you get paid.ICantEven wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 3:19 pm
Now starting a fitness /wellness channel is not the worst idea Landon has ever had. Much better than a PhD! I love channels where an expert talks about stuff (not saying Landon is really an expert, haha) . But it might pull in a diffeerent crowd and also help draw new viewers to the family channel. Still not very sure or steady income, but hey its worth a try if he is apparently not doing anything else right now..

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
I forgot he was an athletic trainer... Why would he not do athletic training? That seems like a possibly very flexible job, does involve people and teaching, seems perfect. I wonder if it's not a pride issue with him. Maybe he always wanted to be a doctor and talked about it a lot, and then when med school didn't work out, he thought he could still feel prestigious with a PhD doctorate. I think his first degree was athletic training, right? So if he worked in that, what's the point of all the loans, time, etc if he's just going to use his very first degree. Honestly, no judgment from me if he did that. I definitely spent some years "exploring". I just wonder if there isn't some need to prove himself that's making it hard for him to "settle" for a more normal job like 95% of the rest of the world does.YTIG60 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 6:52 pmI think it isn't a bad idea either and I do think with his higher education level being a graduate student in Exercise and Health Promotion and being a Certified Athletic Trainer, he is pretty close to being an expert. I think 99.9% would look at a normal job after BYU's decision when you are 32 and have four children. I don't understand Julie and my reaction would be different with insisting he find a job, I'll go back to work and help pay back student loans. I'm not crazy about having debt or not being able to save for children's college and retirement.

It’s so bizarre really. I’ve only seen people without families and most that are single continue through school and be “professional students”.YTIG60 wrote:I think 99.9% would look at a normal job after BYU's decision when you are 32 and have four children. Those that have families tend to go back to school for a program that is geared towards working adults or downsize their lifestyles to live on their partners salary when their kids are a bit older.
It’s also on very specific careers that require this type of education and he is going to entering the workforce competing with 20 somethings because education does not negate experience. I’ve worked with more than a few new graduates who feel that they are better than the work assignments because they are better than that because of their education. Landon would be unbearable, he needs to start his own business. He is obnoxious though so I don’t know if he has the personality to do videos about personal training.

Could be different in other countries, but where I am from, most people would not have kids before they get their phd - if this is their goal. It is a very challenging thing to do, needs a tremendous amount of time per week and energy and focus. So if Landon gets accepted Julie should get ready to really raise the kids more or less alone. Quite sad for all of them, when Landon could get a good job with the eductaion he already has.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
Landon said in today's vlog, "I did my job, your welcome." The level of maturity Landon shows in today's vlog, while Julie is at Target, may explain why he may not be finding success in parts of his life. YouTube/brand deals income could be better than I think and I assume they do not depend on subsidies if they are able to travel to Belize for a vacation. It is unusual to see two parents not working full-time in a job with benefits, be able to afford this trip.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
Landon displays some characteristics similar to Richard Carmack of Freckled Fox. Not working with many mouths to feed and provide for. Only difference is Landon is not supporting his biological child with what appears to be another man's hard work and financial security set up for his own children before he died. Both need to grow up and contribute to the financial support of their families. If a Mormon mom's place is usually in the home raising the family, then the dad's place should be getting a job and supporting his family financially (though in my world it's a partnership in which mom and dad work together on everything, no specific roles).rosie_dalia wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 5:13 pm Landon is an awful husband. Re: Julie Deru: Part One
I just watched yesterday's vlog. Julie's description about their trip to Belize- ! She's acting like we are children! I have a feeling we all know where Belize is! Looks like Julie is becoming more like her sisters! How many swimsuits does she need?
Landon is so arrogant! I did my job! You don't have a full time job so what is wrong with you watching your children! They are his kids too and he said in the assumptions vlog that they want more children!

I am curious what he'll be doing this fall at BYU with classes starting soon. This is what is on BYU website and he is using a gmail address instead of having a BYU email address. He was involved in teaching last fall/winter-EXSC 440 - Adv Musskl Hum Anat (incl lab)

Oh wow... Took me a while to see it, but is that Lucy sitting in the kitchen sink???
Re: Julie Deru: Part One
Does anyone know about how much IG ads/sponsorships or whatever they are called pay? I've noticed Julie and Landen posting them fairly frequently and I'm wondering how significant a source of income Instagram might be for them. Their financial/work situation fascinates me.
ETA: Do they even get paid at all? Or do they just get free stuff in exchange for promoting it?

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
I think it varies, but their brand deals don't represent big corporations so my guess is less money compared to other channels. I do think some of Julie's sponsors are just free stuff type payments with the smaller businesses. They average 14,900 daily viewers, this is considered a small channel, they upload three times a week and the top estimate from Social Blade is low twenty thousand a year so it is likely less than even that. I don't know if BYU is paying him that much this summer submitting their journal study again, but I'm guessing not much. I image they qualify for health care assistance with six family members due to the enormous insurance cost and their sources of income. Will student loan payments come due if he isn't actually enrolled in course work? Does Landon teaching one class see a good income? I will add this in saying this is me guessing their fiances from what they've shown how much they work and with Social Blade estimates so I could be wrong.ICantEven wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 9:11 pm Does anyone know about how much IG ads/sponsorships or whatever they are called pay? Yesterday, Julie said how she couldn't have made it through the summer without babysitters. Sneaking food in the park, I'm not sure why she had to tell her viewers, they don't seem to watch the baby carefully and the theater voices ugh. They depict a lazy couple in their vlogs with a sense of entitlement. Julie looked like she did the Baylor program in Kansas so she was working every weekend. I had more respect for her working hard on night shifts when she started YT. To think Landon has worked full-time less than few years at his age is amazing.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
It's been speculated that his parents are helping them out. And paying for the trip to Belize
I admit, I have had help from family when I was really sick and couldn't work full time. My sister lived with me while she was writing her doctoral dissertation, rent free. It's what family does. But I didn't want the help, and hated every time my brother or sister asked how much I needed to get by. And I wasn't trying to be a perpetual student, popping out more kids, or just not working because I didn't want to. And I wasn't taking expensive dive trips to other countries.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
I can't see why parents would support a thirty plus year old son with multiple degrees. Are they doing the same for their other children. If you watch their vlogs this summer, Landon has had a nice time off including a party seen on IG yesterday showing his silly dance moves in a Limo. If they are paying for the Belize trip, it is a big red flag they are enablers of two parents who are adverse to work.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
Must be nice to have family with lots of subscribers.
Would any random family with the numbers these two have get a sponsored trip to Belize?
