Re: Julie Deru: Part One
Landon thinks he's all that, he's obnoxious and lazy. If they had no kids, that's one thing, but 4 kids and no job, 30 and still taking classes is mind boggling. I can't believe his parents don't sit him down and have a talk with him about being a responsible adult. Julie is a nurse, why can't she work p/t? I know she at least vlogs and edits and brings in money. Landon needs a wake up call, a kick in the a$$. If he thinks Youtube is going to be their way to an easy life, he'd better take a long, hard look at E&J and their falling subscribers and money. Julie and Landon are not interesting, nothing to see there, they'll never make it. Go get real jobs, support your kids, maybe make a vlog when there's a milestone, or a family event.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
Okay this is a sponsored trip-makes more sense. I was wondering how they were affording that trip when I seen how much that resort cost!!
Landon comes across having an ego, especially the way he was acting in the limo over the weekend.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
Yeah, Julie confirmed that it is a sponsored trip, or that is sure what it sounded like in her instastory yesterday. She was talking about how nice the staff at the resort was and then said she had enjoyed working with them. Must be nice to get an expensive trip like that for free!
These YT free stuff with vloggers/IG folks is really something else. Shaun Johnson, the former gymnast who is expecting her first baby, is racking up on free stuff for the baby and her new home. Her IG stories have become just about all ads now for the products! People are starting to complain some now on the amount of ads!

I haven't watched the vlog so I may be wrong but are we sure that it's not some missionary trip that the mormon church is paying for, so they can sell the religion and do some voluntary work for the church. They aren't busy doing anything else like her sisters.sheltiefan wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 12:40 pm Yeah, Julie confirmed that it is a sponsored trip, or that is sure what it sounded like in her instastory yesterday. The J house family went and lived in Puerto Rico with their children and made it seem like that it was an adventure to expose and teach their kids about another culture. Didn't make sense as they don't bother exposing them in the US. They went there to live with other mormons and also visit grandma who was there to teach English.

The vlogs on the trip haven't came out yet-it's just been on their IG stories. It's not a missionary trip. They are celebrating their 10 year anniversary at an all inclusive beachfront resort in Belize.Namm wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2019 11:25 amI haven't watched the vlog so I may be wrong but are we sure that it's not some missionary trip that the mormon church is paying for, so they can sell the religion and do some voluntary work for the church. Im willing to bet Landons parents wont sit down with him because this is familiar behavior and not new. I'm sure his early adult life they did this to him constantly. My brother and brother in law are exactly the same.Todays drama wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 8:58 am Landon thinks he's all that, he's obnoxious and lazy. Re: Julie Deru: Part One
On IG Insta Stories, Julie answered some questions. The thing I noticed is all these answers collectively don't show a means to support a family and she would consider adding more children. It's all fun and games. They don't foster a strong work ethic and that's fine if they are living independent of assistance from anyone other than their families.
Do you guys want more babies? Popular question. I can't say we are done for sure. If I am honest with myself I think we will have one more. Not anytime soon thought. Maybe in a few years.
Where did you go to college? Will you ever go back to nursing? I went to DATC an extension of Weber State Universities Nursing program. It was in Kaysville, UT. I honestly don't know if I will go back. I loved it and will keep up my license. But honestly, even if I don't ever work again I think the schooling was worth it.
Tips for mom with husband in school. Landon has been in school a long time so this is a great question. My advice is don't wait for him to not be busy to get out and have fun. Just do it! If you want to go play with your kids, go to a museum or whatever, just go and have fun without dad. It's hard but you can do it.
Do you see yourself staying in Utah forever? Honestly probably yes. Utahns forever. Unless, when Landon graduates and his job takes us somewhere else.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
My thoughts are both of the families may have talked with Landon and Julie. Both families' dads have had good careers and know what it takes to raise a family, provide for kid's mission trips or higher education and save for retirement.amyfalafalagain wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2019 9:14 pmIm willing to bet Landons parents wont sit down with him because this is familiar behavior and not new. Both Landon and Julie have had a long and fun summer vacation. Twenty years from now, they may regret the decisions they've made recently when they are still paying off student loans and don't have savings for retirement. I still don't understand how Landon would say to BYU he would be able to pay his own way through grad school?

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
It's ridiculous.I dont know if he's the baby of his family, the youngest of his siblings, but more times than not youngest sons feel pressure to achieve what the oldest siblings have, then at one point this pressure boils over the pot and you stop caring about the pressure and feel your way is the best way to get things done, or in this case, done for them. Im generalising, which isnt right, because not all youngest male siblings are like this, but from my personal and professional experience it almost always is like this. These guys, especially from a religious family, have a ton of pressure and when things are constantly done for them, they cant even figure out who they are as a person without those people. In the Griffiths family, I feel Ellie is VERY much like this, too. My brother for example is 25 and been engaged four times now. Finally after his last fiance, he realised and told us he no longer wants to keep up with all of us. (I'm from a large family.. not as big as the Griffiths). But he doesnt work, has no passion for any type of career, always finds the next best thing and is really into it for a short time and becomes lazy again. The cycle doesnt stop with this type personality. I have no doubt Landon's family has spoken to him. I can see Julie's father also saying something. Julie will soon enough need to go back to work fulltime. That's what will happen. Landon will become a stay at home father, the kids will be spoiled because he has no structure himself, how can he implement structure to his own kids. We dont see it in the vlogs.YTIG60 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 2:27 pmMy thoughts are both of the families may have talked with Landon and Julie. Re: Julie Deru: Part One
I will be surprised if Julie goes back to work even part-time. Traditional roles appear in the vlogs with their families where the mom stays home. But she'll pay a price by continuing to live in a small rental and will not be able to get ahead financially. I don't think she likes nursing as much as she claims from watching her earlier vlogs where she stop working nights as soon as Landon had benefits and stated she "didn't like leaving her kids on the weekend...(other reasons) because it is hard and I'm tired." Also, she would be working if she love nursing since Landon is home. She spends time on IG and in vlogs saying how busy her spouse is in school. I don't know how she'll say that this year with one class he is an assistant, not working on a degree like last year and not in the PhD program.amyfalafalagain wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 5:49 pm

I don't believe Landon is the youngest from this previous message posted a few months back:
'His older brother works for their dad's insurance firm. Of his younger brothers, one is a firefighter and the other is a welder. In the back of his mind, Landon probably thought he was 'above' them for going to medical school. I know that everyone has a different 'path' in life, but it must sting to see his brothers be well established in their careers (and still in their 20s), while he has nothing to show for all that education. Heck, he could easily go into insurance and work for his dad. But they're just going to rely on Youtube, the sinking ship...'

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
I will add it might be she doesn't want to work outside the home and not liking nursing is too judgemental in my response. Working nights, every weekend (Baylor program) and being a nurse is hard work. But working part-time wouldn't be unreasonable.YTIG60 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2019 6:17 am I don't think she likes nursing as much as she claims from watching her earlier vlogs where she stop working nights as soon as Landon had benefits and stated she "didn't like leaving her kids on the weekend...(other reasons) because it is hard and I'm tired." I find their choices surprising and it will be interesting to see what their future holds if they continue to show their life on YouTube.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
There are TONS of ways she can work as a nurse and still be home with her kids a lot of the time. She can do school nursing. Telephone triage for insurance companies from home. Just work a couple of days a week.YTIG60 wrote:I will add it might be she doesn't want to work outside the home and not liking nursing is too judgemental in my response. No, if she really loved nursing, she would be doing it. Yeah, it's hard. But if you love it, it's also really rewarding. None of the Griffiths seem to be overflowing with empathy. And at least some caring is required for a good nurse.
When I was nursing, I used to say I loved it so much, I would do it for free. Actually considered joining Doctors Without Borders at one point. I worked when I didn't have to, because I loved it. And because being fulfilled made me a better mom. Not saying that to blow my own horn. Just saying that as a nurse, seeing the situation they're in, and with her saying she loves it, I don't buy it. And I am not judging her for not liking it. It's definitely not for everyone. If anything, I judge her for lying about it, and not working when they appear to be in a poor financial situation.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
I absolutely agree with your entire message. If she was smart, she would take advantage of employers who would send her back to school with tuition reimbursement for her bachelors. This seems so foreign to me how they are raising children by not working that could impact their future.lmmomSD wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2019 9:36 am Just saying that as a nurse, seeing the situation they're in, and with her saying she loves it, I don't buy it. Re: Julie Deru: Part One
Julie on IG today was relaying an incident at their family reunion where her son was locked in a closet, no one heard him calling for help and he took a bucket to the door attempting to get out. There is no mention how long he was locked in the closet. I am a bit surprised some of his cousins didn't know he was locked in the closet since they all seem to play together and at the same time you need to keep an eye on your children.
Here is one response on IG: How do you not miss your child while all this happened
Julie's response: Cousins were playing downstairs and adults were chatting. Things happen when there is a house full of people having fun.
I would have left this part out: Julie "This may have resulted in pausing our family reunion for several hours and several dollars out of our pocket."

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
I find it telling that Julie seems to think anger is the natural reaction to your child being locked in a closet for God knows how long and trying to break down the door. Because they had to take the time and money to repair a door. (I'm willing to bet the rental company would have insisted on charging them for a new door if they had known.) She seems to be patting herself on the back for being so empathetic and not punishing the child. She should feel guilty and embarrassed that she lost track of her child and wasn't keeping an eye on him.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
Oh, I just bet some of his cousins knew. Maybe they locked him in. As I said when I was discussing Julie's nursing, empathy is not a strong suit with that family. And we've seen bullying go on with Ruby's kids. Either the other kids had something to do with him being locked in, or they just didn't care.YTIG60 wrote:Julie on IG today was relaying an incident at their family reunion where her son was locked in a closet, no one heard him calling for help and he took a bucket to the door attempting to get out. And I have been at lots of big family reunions. (I still don't get why they call it a "family reunion" when it's just immediate family, and they see each other all the time anyway, but that's beside the point) even when "adults are chatting" we always have a weather eye out for our kids.
That's another Griffiths attitude I don't get: the parents are the important ones. Not the kids. Obviously, you want to have adult time. But you need to be paying attention to what's going on with your kids, too.

They upload short videos just three days a week, the vlogs are significantly delayed and it is their source of income since both parents don't have a steady job outside of YouTube = they are too busy so there is no vlog today.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
Yep, I came here to post the same comment. These folks haven't even posted their anniversary trip yet! This is their only job, they don't have that many subscribers or views, and only upload three times a week. Why didn't they have their trip already edited and ready to upload? Which should be more important to them-running a race or do what is your job to support four kids?
I would think the Deru crew should really be sweating the upcoming YT changes and how it will effect them. Landon needs to forget this schooling gig and support his family!
Re: Julie Deru: Part One
Sorry in advance, but I don’t really watch this family. Was the child who was locked in the closet or room the same child they excluded from Disney that time? If so, maybe the cousins picked up on the fact that he’s ostracized by his own family.

Re: Julie Deru: Part One
They don't seem driving to work much with the excuse they are training for a race and kids needing more attention that shouldn't consume your whole day or days in this instance with their three day workweek. Is it possible since Landon isn't taking any classes this upcoming year, any student loan he may have would require him to start repayment?sheltiefan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 10:39 am
