I meant to quote, not like this. While missionaries do preform community service each week of their mission, the LDS church has separate funds and programs dedicated to humanitarian efforts. The LDS church has donated more than $2 billion dollars in global assistance to people of all walks of life. It may not be your beliefs, but it’s not a “waste.”Haulnarse wrote:Imagine the difference they could make to another country or community. Imagine how much they could change. All the money and resources going into boosting their numbers. Gah. What a freaken waste.lmmomSD wrote:Nope. Mormon missions are all about converting people. Not about helping out in impoverished countries. He's going to be living in a little apartment with another missionary for the next two years, getting up and pounding the pavement trying to convert people. It's not a fun life. NO dating, very little privacy, and not much time to call your own.Haulnarse wrote: I assumed he was going international. Why such a big send off??
