Omg I almost forgot about discover boating, lol!

I mean, Megan has a whole video dedicated to Pearl's back. She even has an FAQ on her website: "What's wrong with Pearl's back?" Like sheesh.

I'm totally enjoying this forum. It's very entertaining lol.

Did anyone go to the Discover Boating website and see the commercial with Mike and Megan? This was right after the first vlog about it. I just checked and I didn't see the commercial this time. Surely it was part of the freebie deal on boats they get. You KNOW Megan was full of herself after that! I'm surprised she didn't mention it. No telling how much stuff those two get for free. They just flat out give me the willies!

That time lapse segment of Esther fixing Megan’s rats nest hair— Megan’s face looked terrifying in that clip.

If I hear one more time “I GOT THIS AT A THRIFT STORE”....I’m going to puke! The Thrift Store Christmas Tree has seen better days. But it’s good enough for the kids. “It’s fun and memorable.” So Meg the really nice tree you want isn’t good enough for the kids? Your nice tree can’t be fun and memorable? None of the kids knew what the Liberty Bell or Williamsburg VA was about! That’s the Unschooling way!

I caught the liberty bell thing too! Plain old public school graduate here to tell you I recognized what it was and knew where it was from l/the story behind it immediately. Looks like their unschooling “curriculum” is extremely effective.

Learning history by traveling to historic places is literally the only subject that I could possibly see as being more beneficial over typical schooling. They don’t even seem to be doing that right. And even then, are they really learning anything or just sightseeing and reading the signs? There aren’t any tests to help enforce the memory of things, no research, essays, or debates to increase critical thinking or explain the “why” behind the historical sites like you’d see in a real school. It’s literally just field trip after field trip.

I totally agree with you! I blame Mike and Megan on their unschooling. They don’t know what they are doing with their kids education! If they don’t give them some sort of direction, they will not be successful in the job market!

In the UK education system, my daughter studied history to GCSE (age16) and then Alevel (age 18) It is about so much more than knowing about what happened in the world - even at lower ages in school. This is the thing Megan doesn’t seem to understand.
Not only is it about understanding the world and why it is the way it is today - socially, politically, economically - its about learning how to seek accurate information and whether it’s source is reliable or biased, teaching children to be able to assess a situation without prejudice etc.
It teaches about the importance of the bigger picture - about understanding the arguments and presenting them from a balanced perspective, before then deciding decisions about what you believe happened.
Those are all skills which are crucial life skills.
History isn’t just about visiting a monument or reading Wikipedia. It’s about how we learn to read, understand and process information before coming to a decision about it - critical thinking. That’s what’s so important about it!

They seem to think that there is nothing worth learning that their kids aren’t interested in. I think every time she has tried to ask them some kind of educational question on camera none of the children know the answer.
Maybe it will work out the way she thinks and they will all find amazing careers doing something they have a passion for, but Megan and Mike live in such a small bubble. Sure, they travelled the world but they have MONEY and all of their travel experiences were unbelievably out of touch. Plus, the first country they went to that wasn’t euro-centric and had mostly white people they decided to quit. I don’t think either of them even understand how badly they are setting all of their kids up for failure because they honestly don’t know how the world works.

I noticed when they were going through the ornaments the kids could barely remember which trip was what, it's all just jumbled to them.

It was so sad that even the older kids didn't know the ornament references. They visited some of the most amazing places in the world but haven't retained enough to understand a matching ornament.

Are there any TESTS they need to do periodically by the state to verify they are learning something??
My posts on this board are only my opinion and shouldnt be taken as fact, unless noted

I am a homeschooler and it varies by state to state. My state (SC) does NOT require testing but I do have to keep records, grades, and a portfolio.

Kinda funny considering Andrew seems to know a lot about black holes, 4th dimensions and closed ecosystems (from the podcast).

"The cracked bell from..ummm.." :D

With all the money they used to travel the world, they may as well stayed home lol.

That's because he probably outright reads from wikipedia pages (even that isn't always a solid reference since anyone to add to it) while they are recording their podcasts. He reads a line really quickly and then right away says (with his snooty voice...) "Well, did you know...." and then spits out what he just read... annoying.

They just went to a thrift store for a lunch date. Drove 30 minutes to get to it. What a pile of junk. The woman desperately needs therapy. She's a bottomless pit.

Why is she even trying to thrift for her new house? I am pretty sure all of the thrifted stuff in their current house is not going to fit. Megan, please stop.
