The vlog with a title that stands out is the one I would look at where Julie told viewers Landon didn't get into the BYU PhD program.
From Disappointing News/Being Honest with You
"BYU did say that everything else on his application looks great there, like that's what you'll need you'll have to apply but everything else on your application likes Incredibles so after going through the hoops that BYU asked them to do he applied to be my use ph.d program and the plan was to just seamlessly glide into the ph.d program from what he's already been doing no big deal right"
"said no, there's no reason whatsoever for people to be saying no to Landon...his application looks amazing everything looks great on his application his grades are awesome he has lots of experience and he's taking his last final today actually for the master's program for the second master's that they (BYU) told him to get"
Thanks for finding the video. I just went back and watched it. A couple things that stand out to me.
1) I forgot that he was also rejected from a program in Idaho. 2/2 rejection to me says his application was not competitive.
2)I'm also confused by the "last final for 2nd masters" she mentioned. Maybe he finished the courses but didn't get his thesis done? He still seems to be working on his thesis now. And if byu wanted a thesis masters, then it's not surprising they didn't accept him without it...
3) Jared applied to 30 Physical therapy programs, 2 years in a row (maybe 15/year) and didn't get into any of them. Julie said he had good grades and there is no reason he shouldn't have gotten in. I beg to differ. That's not a fluke. Jared really wanted something that he did not have the right background or aptitude for or whatever. Landon should take a lesson and go work at Verizon (or use one of his many other degrees that could get him interesting, decent paying jobs)
4) Landon shows his ignorance of academia when he talks about having much more free time until fall 2020 when he could potentially start the PhD program. He mentioned he would be teaching anatomy, working on research and publications and his thesis. He wouldn't have to take classes, sure, but in most PhD programs you only take classes for the first 2 years max. Then spend 3-5 more years just doing teaching /research /pubs /thesis. And nope it's not a relaxed pace.
5) He mentioned his job as an athletic trainer and how he enjoyed that and got to travel with the US ski team. He also said he loved his last job in Healthcare administration. And yet Julie mentions over and over what a great prof he will be and he will love it. He's never been a professor so how does he know! Why not stick with a job you can have right now that actually MAKES MONEY and you enjoy? Like why can you not be content?
I am all for following your dreams and I get that you can't 100% know you'll be happy in a job. But it would be totally different if he didn't have a million degrees already and a family to support.
6) Landon thinks the professor lifestyle will let him be around with his kids, coach soccer teams etc. As we've discussed before, being a professor is a very time-consuming job and his kids will be grown up long before he could possibly have any job security
