Re: Cullen and Katie: Shifty eyes and constant lies | Part #25
The fact that they seem to be unable to give up drinking during their financial crisis leads me to believe that they both have a drinking problem. Cullen admitted to both of them having a problem last year that Katie quickly covered up. Cutting on social drinking and buying drinks to have at home would be the first expense I would cut and it would be a no brainer. They seem to be unable to live without drinking, they obviously use it to cope .

Do car tags work differently in different states? I renew my tags every two years and it costs 66.50 (I literally renewed mine yesterday). I can't imagine paying 600 a year to license my car.MilkingTheClicks wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 11:17 am Getting rid of the Suburban ($900 payment + $200 insurance + $50 tags (probably around $600 a year)

Tags once a year here in the states (on your birthday), I think what the poster was saying could be almost $600 was in addition to tags you also have insurance either every 6 months or monthly.blondeusa wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 3:48 pmDo car tags work differently in different states? Oh yeah something happened for sure! If they don't go to the beach for Spring Break...that will speak VOLUMES! I don't care how broke my family members would be, I would make sure they went. I know my family/husband's family would help us out so we could go. They go to the beach every year for Spring Break...the memories are worth more than any issues that may be going on.rosie_dalia wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 1:01 pm I wonder what the heck happened with her sister???!!! Kelley lives two houses away, but they can't go hang out at her house for 30 minutes while they show their house??? They keep saying they "drive around the block," but why not just go to Kelley and Jay's????
Something really bad must have gone down between them. They used to see each other EVERY DAMN DAY! Now not at all (except family events).
I think Katie got tired of Kelley bossing her around. Kelley got tired of Katie being immature. They had words. Or Kelley is frustrated with their terrible lifestyle/choices (drugs, drinking, immaturity, finances etc). IDK. But I"m low key freaking out if they don't go to the beach for Spring Break. lol

I'm surprised there aren't more comments on here about the Don't Tell Mom Podcast from Tuesday. If you enjoy making fun of them, you should really watch it. It's Katie with Cullen this week, not Britany.

Kinda crazy that two adults wouldn’t go check the basement to at least see if it was an animal not act like two lunatics and waste valuable police time

It’s definitely that expensive in California (idk about texas) plus it’s every year here not every other yearblondeusa wrote:Do car tags work differently in different states? Another 10k price drop, so it’s under 600k.

I really think that the price is the biggest drawback when it comes to the house. There are nice homes in the exact neighborhood for a fraction of the price. Yes, it's a big house but a lot of the square footage is just wasted space. The master bathroom is humungous that big giant room when you first walk in. I really think they are going to have to take a huge loss. I don't see is selling for more than $550k.wishes wrote:Another 10k price drop, so it’s under 600k.

When I lived in Mississippi, it was way more expensive than California, where I live now and most of my life. Not sure if Alabama would also be super expensive.Wolvesmouth101 wrote:It’s definitely that expensive in California (idk about texas) plus it’s every year here not every other yearblondeusa wrote:Do car tags work differently in different states? Im catching up on their vlog, and I know this has been discussed but I still want to vent/add my view point on it.
I really don't care what Dave Ramsay, or anybody really, says about car payments. Common sense says if you cant afford the payment without majorly skimping somewhere else then YOU CANT AFFORD IT. This months budget didn't even include their mortgage, let alone serious debt payments, there is no way they can afford a $900 car payment regardless what % of the income/debt it is.
They bring in roughly $8000 a month.
Right off the bat they pay 10% tithe, so -$800
Theyre already down to $7200
Mortgage is $3400, now theyre at $3,800
Insurance (medical) is $1500, leaving them $2300
School/daycare is $800 if I remember correctly, leaving them $1500
Suburban loan is $900, now theyre down to $600
They have a $500 loan to someone (they haven't said who) that they have to pay each month, $100 left.
Minimum CC payment is around $1000, -$900
They still have to purchase fuel, vehicle & home insurance, utilities, and groceries, let alone make substantial debt payments.
That SUV needs to go NOW. The excuse of needing it for showings is crap. If something really happened where someone wanted to come in the next 30 minutes and whoever has the smaller SUV cant get back to pick them up then take the dogs for a walk. Likely the kids would be at daycare/school anyways.
There is no way theyre being honest to themselves and Cullen needs to wake up and get involved in their finances, Miss I love numbers, Im a nerd, is SERIOUSLY fudging things if they honestly think theyre going to be OK and their budget is good.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Shifty eyes and constant lies | Part #25
Their monthly earnings and their bills don't make sense because $8000 a month just doesn't cover everything. So they are either continuing to not pay the mortgage which I think that has been their plan but the house took longer to sell so now they have to pay the last couple months out of their "get current" money. I also think they are paying some bills out of their business income. They mentioned the suburban was a company vehicle so I think they pay that out of the business. I don't know why they are not more organized in these videos and differentiating between their business expenses and personal expenses.FakingIt_MakingIt wrote:Im catching up on their vlog, and I know this has been discussed but I still want to vent/add my view point on it.

If they really want to attract viewers interested in paying off debt and getting back on their feet after a financial crisis they need to get more organized. There are so many other channels that tackle the topic of debt and do it so much better and actually give advice that could help people. Instead these to yammer on about how they need their reese's and booze while putting out two random videos a week.

Even if you take the $900 suburban payment out of the company instead of their personal budget it still doesn't add up, plus it would be an extra $900 (roughly, a little less because they would have to pay payroll tax on that) they could take as income to tackle debt.
Their budget didn't include the mortgage, so my guess would also be theyre going to keep not paying it. They'll get current with the "get current money" because the bank was threating foreclosure, and then they'll let payments lapse again in hopes the house will sell.
Someone else mentioned they've reduced the house again, there is no way theyre walking away from closing with any cash in their hand. Do they have money for first and last months rent? I would be shocked if the house sold soon, its one of the more expensive homes in the neighbourhood, but also one of the more outdated ones. I don't blame that other couple for pulling up and then leaving, photos are not the same as in person. If you pull up and immediately can see its not worth the financial investment then why waste more time going in?
If I had somehow ended up in their shoes I would be SICK trying worrying and trying to get out of it. I don't understand how they can convince themselves $20 movies, alcohol, fancy SUVs, after care with TWO work at home parents, and all sorts of grocery splurges, are ok. It would literally be necessities ONLY. What a mess.
Re: Cullen and Katie: Shifty eyes and constant lies | Part #25
Your post lays it out more clearly than all the hours of videos they've posted. The numbers just don't work no matter how much they talk. Even if they pay the suburban from the business account, they're in major trouble as soon as they start paying for housing again (crazy that they stopped).FakingIt_MakingIt wrote:Im catching up on their vlog, and I know this has been discussed but I still want to vent/add my view point on it.

It worries me that between the two of them, they couldn't actually sit down and write it out like this and wake up to what is going on. I think Cullen is more worried about the situation, but all these years he's married to a nerd who is SO MUCH smarter than him, so no way he's going to try to do some basic subtraction himself.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Shifty eyes and constant lies | Part #25
If they were serious about this debt they could do so many things better!
For starters, Katie could easily get a job out side of the house while doing the SM hustle, there is NOTHING she is doing that requires a full day of work. Yes, itll make for some longer days and late nights but that's a small sacrifice to get out of the debt theyre in.
And get those kids out of school/daycare. Its just not affordable right now. Cullen has the lower earning potential so make him the stay at home parent. Put Gaines in public school if you really want.
They could easily turn their budget into something like this:
SM income $8000, Katie job income $2,600 (average found on indeed.com)
Total income $10,600
Tithe - cut it out. I am Mormon, I do believe in tithe, but until theyre current it needs to go. Any church leader would understand that.
Mortgage, $3400 until they can sell the house, $7200 left
Medical insurance, less $1500, leaving them $5700
School, CUT IT OUT.
Suburban, SELL IT NOW take any proceeds and buy a beater car for Katie to take to work leaving Cullen the SUV for the kids and him.
$500 loan, $5200
Minimum CC payment $1000, leaving them $4200 to purchase groceries, utilities, fuel, and substantial debt payments.
Would it be a comfortable life? No. They would have to work hard, Cullen would have to hustle to do SM with the kids around, they would have to save up a few thousand (hopefully proceeds from the suburban sale) to buy a cheap car, Katie would have to actually work. BUT they would make some headway on their debt, sorry but when you've accumulated this much debt your life isn't going to be comfortable for awhile.

They are on the brink of losing their house if it doesn't sell soon. Yet Katie's main concern is justifying keeping her $80k car and getting her reese's and booze! She also had to make sure they started to budget for easter and Cullen mentioned St. Patrick's day for the kids too! Who buys their kids gifts for St. Patrick's day? Schools don't even do parties for that holiday. I guess I understand starting an envelope for Christmas because they have young kids.
I think the house going into foreclosure would be the only way they would wake up and make real changes.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Shifty eyes and constant lies | Part #25
I agree that the numbers don’t make sense. It absolutely does not add up. They are either still skipping the mortgage payment, getting significant financial support elsewhere, or there is more income coming in every month to the business account that is going to pay certain personal bills that they have deemed business expenses.
So roughly they are looking at:
$8,000 Income
- $3,400 mortgage
- $900 car payment
- $155 car insurance
- $1,500 health insurance
- $42 dental insurance
- $1,000 minimum credit card payment (probably more)
- $91 gymnastics
- $411 tithing (could be 2x a month)
- $886 preschool/aftercare
- $27 subscriptions
- $240 electric bill
I haven’t even subtracted groceries, prescriptions, holiday shopping, water bill, and any other expenses they haven’t specifically outlined recently, and they’re already -$652 in the hole for the month. I’m guessing they are not paying the mortgage. It will either sell, or go into foreclosure, and they’ve just given up on paying it. I just don't see how they could be making more than $8,000 on their social media. Katie said in their first budget video that they couldn't afford the mortgage on their income, so I think they're just letting it go into foreclosure.

Everyone breaking down their budget is forgetting about TAXES!!!!!!! They have to pay everything themselves because they are self-employed. They are in dip, dip doo-doo this year if they haven't saved anything for the IRS! When I was fully freelance I would save 40-ish percent of my income and put it immediately in a savings account. I guess they can file an extension, but you are still expected to pay something by April 15. Also, don't they already owe back taxes???
They are in some VERY serious trouble and they seem to laugh it all off. They really should STOP ALL SPENDING!!

No, not forgetting taxes (I’m an accountant . But the taxes should be paid out of their company budget, I’m talking their personal budget. They have an incorporated company, hopefully they’re keeping the tax money owed in the company account. It’s cullen and Katie so who knows but either way, taxes wouldn’t come off their personal budget.
