I have been a long timer lurker on these boards, and finally their last video got me so annoyed I had to say something!

1) why are you buying your dog bones at walmart? Go to a local butcher and get real bones, that are way cheaper, safer, and better for your dog! I get buying treats at walmart (kinda) but would never buy bones there.

2) I always saw people talk about how spoiled and selfish Katie is, and part of me wanted to defend her and say it isn't all poor Cullen. He can be annoying af...but lately I have seen some serious selfish crap with her! Cullen loves the Marie Callander pot pies, but Katie decided they were too expensive and bought the Banquet ones instead, even though those ones aren't his favourite. Wellllll then she shows the walmart pizzas that she bought, that are more expensive than the aldi ones, but the aldi ones just aren't her favourite. I mean!!!!!!!! So blatant!

Katie girl, you really need to check yourself. And you have no excuse, its allll right there on video.

Another 10k price drop, so it’s under 600k.

I really think that the price is the biggest drawback when it comes to the house. There are nice homes in the exact neighborhood for a fraction of the price. Yes, it's a big house but a lot of the square footage is just wasted space. The master bathroom is humungous that big giant room when you first walk in. I really think they are going to have to take a huge loss. I don't see is selling for more than $550k.

My husband said the same thing and if you look at recently sold homes, the ones that are around their price ranger are much nicer.

Katie seriously said she didn’t want to pay off their lowest $300 debt because she wants to start saving for Christmas and other holidays coming up.. I just cant..

Also, Cullen briefly mentioned them finding a “$115 apple card” and then the video cut and nothing else was said about it. I just thought that was weird..

Im catching up on their vlog, and I know this has been discussed but I still want to vent/add my view point on it.

I really don't care what Dave Ramsay, or anybody really, says about car payments. Common sense says if you cant afford the payment without majorly skimping somewhere else then YOU CANT AFFORD IT. This months budget didn't even include their mortgage, let alone serious debt payments, there is no way they can afford a $900 car payment regardless what % of the income/debt it is.

They bring in roughly $8000 a month.
Right off the bat they pay 10% tithe, so -$800
Theyre already down to $7200
Mortgage is $3400, now theyre at $3,800
Insurance (medical) is $1500, leaving them $2300
School/daycare is $800 if I remember correctly, leaving them $1500
Suburban loan is $900, now theyre down to $600
They have a $500 loan to someone (they haven't said who) that they have to pay each month, $100 left.
Minimum CC payment is around $1000, -$900
They still have to purchase fuel, vehicle & home insurance, utilities, and groceries, let alone make substantial debt payments.

That SUV needs to go NOW. The excuse of needing it for showings is crap. If something really happened where someone wanted to come in the next 30 minutes and whoever has the smaller SUV cant get back to pick them up then take the dogs for a walk. Likely the kids would be at daycare/school anyways.
There is no way theyre being honest to themselves and Cullen needs to wake up and get involved in their finances, Miss I love numbers, Im a nerd, is SERIOUSLY fudging things if they honestly think theyre going to be OK and their budget is good.

I am thinking that the suburban is paid from the business account before their take the $8000 because they have said a few times it is the business car, which makes no sense. I wonder if their health insurance is paid that way too. They have said their cell phones are paid from the business as well. I think the business credit card is too. Their homeowners insurance might be included in their mortgage. I know ours is. I wonder what else they claim as business expenses, maybe electric bill? I think they said internet too. What are they going to do when they get a major audit from the IRS? No way they would say all their stuff is legitimate business expenses.

If they were serious about this debt they could do so many things better!

For starters, Katie could easily get a job out side of the house while doing the SM hustle, there is NOTHING she is doing that requires a full day of work. Yes, itll make for some longer days and late nights but that's a small sacrifice to get out of the debt theyre in.
And get those kids out of school/daycare. Its just not affordable right now. Cullen has the lower earning potential so make him the stay at home parent. Put Gaines in public school if you really want.

They could easily turn their budget into something like this:
SM income $8000, Katie job income $2,600 (average found on indeed.com)
Total income $10,600
Tithe - cut it out. I am Mormon, I do believe in tithe, but until theyre current it needs to go. Any church leader would understand that.
Mortgage, $3400 until they can sell the house, $7200 left
Medical insurance, less $1500, leaving them $5700
School, CUT IT OUT.
Suburban, SELL IT NOW take any proceeds and buy a beater car for Katie to take to work leaving Cullen the SUV for the kids and him.
$500 loan, $5200
Minimum CC payment $1000, leaving them $4200 to purchase groceries, utilities, fuel, and substantial debt payments.

Would it be a comfortable life? No. They would have to work hard, Cullen would have to hustle to do SM with the kids around, they would have to save up a few thousand (hopefully proceeds from the suburban sale) to buy a cheap car, Katie would have to actually work. BUT they would make some headway on their debt, sorry but when you've accumulated this much debt your life isn't going to be comfortable for awhile.

YES! Work nights and weekends after the kids are in bed. Millions of parents do it to provide for their families. And if Katie went back to work full time, she could get benefits and save on the health insurance costs. Might qualify for cell phone service discounts too.

See, this is where they’re blurring the lines between company and personal.
The suburban is likely paid out of company money, but their personal budget includes the minimum credit card payment Katie says is a company card.... so either they’re lying and it’s not a company card, or miss number loving nerd doesn’t know how to separate company and personal budgets. Probably a mix of both.

Like it was mentioned above, I am blown away that Katie wants to start envelopes for Christmas and other holidays. Use those damn gift cards. They were never included in your budget so set them aside for gifts and continue on with the budget. They’re going to blow those gift cards and still have nothing to show for it.

Everyone breaking down their budget is forgetting about TAXES!!!!!!! They have to pay everything themselves because they are self-employed. They are in dip, dip doo-doo this year if they haven't saved anything for the IRS! When I was fully freelance I would save 40-ish percent of my income and put it immediately in a savings account. I guess they can file an extension, but you are still expected to pay something by April 15. Also, don't they already owe back taxes???

They are in some VERY serious trouble and they seem to laugh it all off. They really should STOP ALL SPENDING!!

No, not forgetting taxes (I’m an accountant . But the taxes should be paid out of their company budget, I’m talking their personal budget. They have an incorporated company, hopefully they’re keeping the tax money owed in the company account. It’s cullen and Katie so who knows but either way, taxes wouldn’t come off their personal budget.

They haven’t mentioned if they are taking taxes out of anything, but they have mentioned owing both personal and business taxes. IF and that is a big if, they are taking taxes out, I am willing to place bets it isn’t enough. I highly doubt it thought. I doubt they are taking business taxes out, then subtracting personal taxes out of their salary.

Random, but I really like Aldi pizza! When they have the garlic/cheese flatbread pizza I stock up. The calzone rings are delish too!! The pizzas Katie showed from Walmart looked basic and gross.

Not a small business owner, but if their car loan was a business expense that they were paying for before they did payroll, wouldn't that also include the car insurance? They specifically mentioned paying $155 in car insurance out of their personal budget during their budget video. I don't know if their health insurance policy is through the business or individually purchased. I suppose if the policy is held by the business they could be paying those premiums before they do payroll. Honestly, I don't think they're smart enough to separate business and personal expenses in a thoughtful way so I doubt they set this up in the most advantageous way.

You get $5 for every person who signs up and redeems a rebate. There’s always something free in the app. There are often rebates on the same products in other coupon apps. I have a stockpile of cereal and ramen noodles because they made me money after redeeming the rebates. Everyone won’t always have the same rebate in their app, but they’re usually similar. Right now I have rebates for many of the items they’ve purchased. There’s a $1.50 rebate on dignorno pizza making it cheaper than the Walmart brand. There’s a rebate for $3 back on a pack of Oreos. That will make them free. There’s also free ramen noodles and 75 cent pasta sauce after you stack rebates. There’s even a rebate on the brand name elderberry syrup she made Cullen buy. I wonder if they’ve noticed the rebates on alcohol? You can even earn a small percentage back on Amazon purchases. The money adds up quickly. They would actually have to put effort into their "work" to make more money which they obviously are not about. They think giving $800 to their church will bring blessings from the heavens. Nevermind all of the other parts of the bible that talk about hard work and living like christ.

There are so many ways they could be making money off of their instagram platforms but I guess making stories with swipe up links is just too hard.

There is just really nothing left to say about how completely ridiculous and untethered from reality these two are... you can't film a 20 minute vlog b/c you have ONE child home sick AND that child was sleeping?!? Go in another room and film, you idiots!!!! Kids who are sick with the flu tend to sleep hard... pretty sure you could have managed to talk at a normal volume and not wake her up.

They are not really taking anything seriously at all. I think that their plan ALL ALONG has been to film these "debt disaster" videos and cross their fingers that they made enough money to keep themselves afloat without really changing a thing.

When Katie said in the last vlog that she didn't just want to put the whole $600 to their debt snowball... she wanted to make Easter envelopes and Christmas envelopes and oh yeah, HER birthday is coming and more money in the eating out envelope!!!! WTF??? I'm sorry, when you are ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS IN DEBT and you haven't paid your mortgage in 3 months (or more?!) then YOU DO NOT GET TO CELEBRATE YOUR BIRTHDAY!!!!!

All of that crap that they bought the kids for Valentine's Day was a TOTAL waste!!! I'd rather have seen them just buy them both the Frozen 2 video and maybe a chocolate heart and call it a day!! The way the Katie justifies every.single.thing that she and/or Gaines wants makes me NUTS.

I just can't even believe these two going on and on about how they were letting their health deteriorate by not buying groceries. Then proceed to buy nothing but frozen pizzas, frozen chicken pot pies, and all the other nasty crap they claim are necessities.

How is any of that crap healthier than ramen, they cannot seriously believe that frozen, processed chicken pot pies are healthy. Not to mention chicken pot pie is extremely inexpensive to make and something the kids would probably like. There are even casserole that are essentially chicken pot pie in a simpler form. They have all this free walmart money and are using it to buy expensive prepackaged food. They bought the aldi haul 2 almost 3 weeks ago and only got a handful of fruits and veggies. What are they even cooking? What are the kids eating, I feel so bad for those kids they must eat nothing but mac and cheese every night!

These two were always so smug and arrogant with their thought to be superior parenting. The baby led weaning and how quickly Gaines developed language. I am just cracking up to see their lives fall apart after how condescending they have always been. I feel awful that the kids are actually living this life and are the ones suffering.

Make use of that giant house and film in the upstairs living room ... the one with the one couch and fireplace. Film downstairs where cullens office was set up. Film upstairs in one of the kids rooms. Film in their own bedroom. There is no excuse to why they couldn’t film with Gaines asleep. It doesn’t matter where she fell asleep, that house is plenty big enough to go to another room and not wake her.

Also, you can tell her shopping addiction is strong. She saw the wax cubes- "needed" them. Got the cookie one, but saw the mahogany sandlewood one and "needed" two of those.


We saw her put in at least 80 bucks into that machine at walmart. Looking at what she bought- she just wasted 80 bucks. I can justify ONE - not 3 types of dog bones and the coffee and thats about it.
