My understanding of real estate sales is that the longer the house sits on an active listing, the harder it is to sell. The same with multiple price reductions. Agents will see how long the house has been on the market, and the fact that the price has been cut several times, and see that as red flags.

I am also wondering if the rift between Katie and her sister may involve borrowing money that hasn't been repaid.

They do mention owing someone $500 every month and I think it is Kelley and Jay. Something big happened between the two of them for sure. Katie was picking up Kelley's kids and vice versa and they were at each other's homes quite frequently. If I lived 2 houses down from my sister and there was a last minute showing I could just show up at her door no questions asked. Even if we had a disagreement I would still feel welcome.

If they were still on good terms with Kelley, I don’t think the house would be for sale. They would be drowning in debt, but still trying to pretend everything is fine.

Several issues with there house. They didn’t price it to sell right away. They tell you to list it slightly below market value because that will sometimes get you multiple offers and you will get more then what you want out of it. Second the price and size of that house will take longer to sell because there are less buyers in that price range. More expensive the house sometimes the longer it takes to sell. There agent is bad for not pricing it correctly to begin with.

The fact that in front of Brooks she said, "Sometimes you just have to let your kid touch the hot stove so that they'll not do it again..." (I know she then said she was kidding and that the stove wasn't on yet) and then proceeded to turn it on, cook the eggs, move the pan over and WALK AWAY FROM BROOKS with a burning hot eye still hot is UNBELIEVABLE!!!! What a complete idiot!!!!!!

Kids absolutely do things like that in the blink of an eye. That's why you don't walk away from a hot stove with a kid standing there!
My son still has a scar 22 years later because he pulled a hot iron down onto his hand. And I hadn't even walked away! I was standing right there and just put the iron down and turned to hang up a shirt. I was standing right there! And he grabbed the cord and pulled. Landed on his hand and burned it. It happened so fast! I just don't understand why so many of these idiots let their kids dance on counters, sit on counters next to the stove while they are cooking, and run around pools. I hate to think that they are thinking "if something happens, it's just more views". My mom used to say that God protects drunkards and fools. I certainly hope someone is protecting these kids!

Problem is pricing it to sell would likely be waaay less than what they bought it for. I wonder if either of their real estate agents tried to get them to start at a lower price. What they're doing with decreasing the price by 10k every week really doesn't look good on a listing.

I also think that their house most likely has terrible curb appeal. They don't have landscapers doing their yard work anymore and we all know they don't put any effort into it.

Kelley and Jay's house it similar in size, had a much nicer layout and didn't need as many updates and I believe their purchased it for less than 500k, if I remember correctly it was like 480k.

They better start selling more of their junk in the basement. Regardless of when the house sells I doubt they will have room in the next house and won't be able to afford a storage unit. Why do they keep all of those bins of baby clothes?

I have two kids and am not sure if we are having a third and only kept one bin of newborn-18 month clothing. Mostly just keepsake stuff, yet they are not having more and keep enough for 5 more kids? Take that stuff to once upon a child and sell it!

The admitted to not paying the mortgage in November and December. Yet they still had to sell a computer to pay for Christmas gifts. I am thinking maybe they were borrowing money from someone for their mortgage?

Their HOA doesn’t strictly prohibit AirB&Bs. It even says that private businesses (music teachers, dance studios, etc) are permitted as long as their is no signage and any vehicles that have logos must be kept in a garage.
There is also at least three other AirB&Bs in their community.

Their basement is a walkout with a separate entrance. Any of the money that went towards the minor updates they’ve made to sell the place could have gone towards converting part of their basement into a one bed apartment that they could either rent out or could stay in and rent out the main house to large parties.

They could probably earn their mortgage payment just through guest bookings.

Yeah I was thinking the same, it has to be something important like the mortgage, normally. But I'm not 100% sure with Katie anymore at this point, she doesn't seem to know the difference between important and unimportant and to her, extravagant parties for Gaines are important and can absolutely not be compromised on. It would also have the advantage of still looking pretty innocent compared to conveying you're in deep trouble by directly asking money for your mortgage. And Katie has proven already not to be open to her family and including her family in the keeping-up-appearances life style. The last thing for instance was that they had no clue C&K couldn't afford the house. Earlier it was for instance "Cullen's" addiction.

Also it is telling they owe money to several persons. It means the 'first person' didn't allow for more money to be borrowed after a while or Katie was too embarrassed to ask for more and had to turn to another person. And for all we know it could also be 3 persons, it's at least two, by the way she indicated two different directions with her hands the last time I saw her mentioning it. The first time it sounded like possibly more than 2. (The vlog with the $500 later on, I didn't see.)

I think they decided a long time ago, and other vloggers too, to turn to their advantage what's being said here. "Humbling" and "struggle" in capital letters provokingly in the title is a classical example for this in my eyes and the perfect summary of what's been said here. I can also imagine Katie feeling hurt (in my mind it doesn't mind Cullen as much) but when they were drinking at night they started laughing about it eventually and making jokes to use it as the title...

So.. flat out, I stopped watching them a long long time ago. They bored the shit out of me and honestly I have completely stopped watching all the “mommy vloggers” and really still don’t watch them. I will say that this Debt Disaster has brought me back. I haven’t watched the latest video yet.

My overall opinion is good for them for being transparent and coming back down to fucking earth. I enjoy this new openness (however open they my really be, I mean... we can’t assume they are being 100% with this, but I will say that I feel like I’m watching the “old” Cullen and Katie again.

I feel bad for Cullen, still.... bc I still think he is willing and ready to tell ALL and hold nothing back, but Katie is still worried about what others say about her and what she’s really being truthful about.

They are for sure in over their head and I have been reading here on the regular since this first started. I agree for the most part that they are still spending money on small frivolous things, BUT... I have to give them credit where credit is due, they have MAJORLY cut back on the spending and while it’s not perfect yet I think we can all agree they are being better with their money than they were 1-2 years ago. My thought is that it takes time to relearn old habits and this is what? Month 2? They haven’t gotten the budget perfect, and they still are making mistakes but, I have to admit they are on the right track as least.

They have got to sell that house FAST or they will be packing up boxes for a move very very soon. Did their get current include catching up on mortgage payments? Bc if not foreclosure proceedings will be happening very soon.

Well, it's now almost 9 months since they listed the house. They were obviously having problems way before that. (You can't really rack up $30K in CC debt in a day. Well, I guess you could, but...) This "debt disaster" series seems sort of a last-ditch effort to make $$$$$$.

I'm really curious what their next plans REALLY are. Is Grandberry's old house still for sale? Maybe she would let them live there for a little bit??!

They aren't going to walk away from this house with any money and they still have so much debt—and they don't seem to be making much from YT/SM. I hope they have a better plan regarding their income, but I'm guessing they don't.

Katie from back in the garage apt and even the old house wasn’t the Katie that has lived in this new house. At least not on camera. This Katie is everything you say she is. I can see small bits of that Katie coming back, but she’s still very concerned with appearances and making sure she is never at fault and throwing Cullen under the bus.

I didn’t mean they collected the debit overnight or didn’t wait until things were desperate before coming back down to earth. What I’m saying is this is month 2 of the whole Dave Ramsey money shift and I think they are doing ok so far. Perfect? No. Needs improvement? 100% but I can’t sit here and say they aren’t being at least a great deal more responsible with the money they do have.

In the end, they owe us as viewers nothing. They are definitely entitled to whatever privacy they want, and can share as little or as much as they choose. While I definitely enjoy the amount of transparency they are choosing to share (bc it’s not like this is the norm in the family vlogger circle, and for sure not the circle they run/ran with) they have zero obligation to viewers on what they are comfortable sharing. Any public figure at any capacity or “fame” level has a right to whatever privacy they feel comfortable with. This has been a long standing opinion of mine.

Granberry’s house sold quite a while back I think. Back when they cleaned it out I’m pretty sure.
