They are really acting like their jobs and income are at risk because of the virus. These people will use anything to gain sympathy from people. I have friends and family that have lost their jobs and don't know how they will pay their bills. They make me sick.

Cullen and Katie: Shifty eyes and constant lies | Part #25

Unread post by rdt1004 »

It makes absolutely no sense. Katie just wants to go on an online panic buying shopping spree and needed a way to justify it. If anything now is really the time to be saving because some brand deals have been freezing for a lot of youtubers.

Well you never really started your snowball and practically only took one baby step of realizing your debt.

Katie started to go to the hairdresser immediately while being afraid of the virus (I am afraid too and the last thing I'm going to do is going to the hairdresser) and purchased some new cushions for their bed. Both (the cushions/bedroom and Katie) are looking good I have to say, but the total has a vibe of being very well fed and cared for shall I say.

What’s the bet that they come out of this crisis with even bigger debt? Or they try to use it to their advantage and try to get credit companies to give them slack with payments, even though they are one of the few whose job will likely barely be affected by quarantine/social distancing.

I hope the credit companies see right through any excuses they try to propose.

I've never been in debt and never worked to pay off debt (aside from my monthly car payments, but that's always been paid in full) so maybe I don't understand how this works, but are they just quitting trying to pay off their debt? Is that something that people who claim not to have enough money to fill up a tank of gas can do?

By only paying minimum payments and stopping any attempts to pay off more, aren't they just worsening their debt? Do they think it will just disappear because everyone will be broke if the economy crashes?

Also, is it normal when paying off debt to only follow one system? Everything they do is Dave Ramsey. He's not the only guide in the world to help people out of debt, is he? So why not follow multiple types of methods to really find what works best for you? Or why not do a little bit of Dave Ramsey and a little bit of something else?

Again, I've never been in debt so maybe I'm just ignorant, but I truly don't understand how they're doing this.

What do their monogram pillows say? NBC, their last name starts with a B for the middle letter, but what's with the N and C? Does Cullen go by his middle name? and what is Katies middle name? W?

He goes by his middle name and W is for her maiden name, now her middle name.

Mod please delete if this isn’t allowed but I’m pretty sure it’s fairly common knowledge. Cullen’s full name is Nicholas Cullen B...

Katie’s full name is Katherine Walker B...

(even though their last name is super easy to find, I’m pretty sure since they’ve never said it, it’s still banned here.)

Wonder what Katie’s middle name was before marriage. Or was she like the Mormon girls who don’t get a middle name just for that reason.

They will declare bankruptcy and blow off all their responsibilities and blame the pandemic. This will give them a socially acceptable (by some) reason/excuse. And I'll bet they stop paying the mortgage.

Their utter ignorance astounding.

Diverting money to savings right now is so fucking stupid. The market is tanking. We’ve lost money from our investments. We’re not worried, the market will recover long before we start drawing those funds, but we’re certainly not making new investments right now.

They would be much better off using the shitty market to try to negotiate debt consolidation with lower interest rates.

Their financial illiteracy is actually infuriating. Especially because they’re just one example of the millions of people just as monetarily inept as they are.

Exactly what I though, I agree. Katie's babbling sounded all like it. It was also almost as if she hoped the world would come to an end so that no company would come demand money after the crisis is over. She decided to live with short-term philosophy: "better invest in ourselves and keep the money with ourselves than to let it flow away to CC companies, because who knows in what state they will be, or what rules there will be, how the world will have changed, or who knows maybe after this is all over they won't even exist anymore or they'll have some rule that we won't have to pay or pay less. Nope, keep the money here with ourselves and invest in our own savings account. Better than maybe having paid for nothing. If we do have to pay, we can always pay after the crisis."

Cullen and Katie: Shifty eyes and constant lies | Part #25

Katie has decided to now give the kids dessert with their dinner in order to make them feel like they have more control over their choices. Good in theory, IF you also give them a healthy dinner! All Katie did was add extra sugar to their already ridiculously unhealthy dinner of pizza and mac and cheese.

Her IG story is ridiculous. She comments how much the kids are loving it as Gaines only appears to eat the Jello and avoid the dinner entirely. Just what Gaines needed.... more control.

Sweet little Brooks on the other hand at least eats a grape while Katie is filming, but naturally the focus returns to princess Gaines as she continues to shovel in her Jello.

I guarantee the reason they are “pausing” is because they think they’re going to get a break on their mortgage payments, and perhaps even some sort of debt forgiveness. But did they truly ever have a substantial amount of money left over in any month this year to put towards their debt snowball? Newsflash: Banks and creditors will still exist after the dust settles and coronavirus is under control. If not, they're going to have MUCH bigger problems. Are they hoping financial institutions and society collapses? They are beyond delusional.

They are correct in predicting that marketing budgets are about to be slashed. All influencers depend on that money being allocated to advertising, and unfortunately it’s usually the first thing to get cut when a recession hits and companies are looking to cut costs.

And using this to prove their point that any job is unpredictable? If either one of them had gone back to work at an office job earlier in the year, depending on the field there’s a chance they could be working from home with pay and benefits right now. That’s not an option for a lot of people who are furloughed right now, but at my company we are able to do our work remotely. And if they had taken a job at a restaurant, at least they would have an that income for a couple of months to put towards debt or savings. Their justifications for their laziness are so weird. “See! We didn’t need to get second jobs! Because the entire economy is tanking right now anyways.”

It does sound like they are doubling down on their poor decisions and irresponsible behavior. But that's classic Katie and Cullen.

Dave Ramsey actually has a twitter post telling people to pause their debt snowball during this crisis. Telling people to take care of food and shelter first.

There is a lot of companies hiring temporary work right now because they need help with deliveries. Cullen should defiantly look into that.

His advice might have changed recently, but yesterday the show posted a video of Dave answering a caller's question about pausing debt repayments in order to build more savings. Dave's answer was to do so only if the caller believes he's truly about to lose his job. Panicking because everyone else is panicking is not enough of a reason to hit pause. He also says to only focus spending on shelter, food, utilities, and transportation, which Katie and Cullen clearly are not. They're using this as license to spend and shop more. Frankly their industry will be impacted (they're projecting something like 5 million jobs lost overall) and they probably needed a sizeable emergency fund from the get-go given the volatility and their refusal to get outside employment. Their unwillingness to adapt and Katie's shopping addiction doesn't bode well for them.

I laughed when she said she needed to offer the kids dessert with their meal. I do the same but our "dessert" is usually bananas or vanilla Greek yogurt or some other type of fruit most nights.

Their dinner last night was frozen pizza and noodles with butter and cheese. I get that friday nights are pizza night for them but why the noodles. It's like Katie thinks her kids are getting tons of nutrients from these noodles. Have pizza night but put broccoli or some other vegetable on their plates as well. Do these kids not like carrots? My kids love shortcut carrots and I feel like Katie just doesn't even try to offer most of the healthier foods her kids could be eating. I know some kids are pickier than others but I truly believe that Katie has made them picky by never offering them anything because she is lazy. Buying some broccoli washing it and steaming it for 10 minutes takes less time than making all the processed shit she makes.

I also think that Dave was giving advice on pausing the debt snowball during the pandemic to people who have made significant cuts to their lifestyle. C&K have not made very many cuts in terms of groceries and still spend an outrageous amount on ultra processed convenience food. Obviously someone trying to pay down debt that just got laid off due to business closings should prioritize food and other necessary expenses over paying off debt. C&K seem to just want any excuse to spend extra money and are using a world wide pandemic to do so.
