Re: Cullen and Katie: Shifty eyes and constant lies | Part #25
Well, they took the house off the market, Zillow only has the house appraised at 580k. Maybe they are going to leave it off the market for a while and take new pictures. They added more furniture from their basement to the house again. Or they have completely lost their minds and think they can stay.
They obviously made a lot more off yt these past couple months their views have been way higher so I am sure that is giving them a false sense of hope. They haven't made a budget related video in almost 3 weeks and have barely managed 2 videos a week recently though. Their new audience will lose interest and move on if they don't get their act together.

With this virus and people losing jobs they probably weren’t selling that house anytime soon.

The US housing market is likely to crash again, what are they going to do then? But giving up saving right now just makes perfect sense according to Katie..

How the hell is that even possible for them, especially right now?Romeoxsavexme wrote:Omg they are going to stay in there house indefinitely.

I wonder if they are going to try and get the small business loan and use that to pay off their debt.

I am confused on how they suddenly arent sinking anymore, just last month they were talking about how they didnt even have a dollar in their bank accounts. Any chance her parents gave them a lump sum? an early inheritance? You would think that youtubers would be struggling even more right now and going into the unknown next 30-60 days... they werent making enough on YT to begin with... UNLESS they just signed with a big sponsorship.. dave ramsey? I dont even know if he would pay someone but they must have gotten a decent chunk of money from somewhere in order to stay afloat.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Shifty eyes and constant lies | Part #25
I haven’t watched yet, but I’m not surprised they’re staying put. In their position Id probably consider it too for the time being. They’re going to loose a lot of money if they house did sell now, they’d likely have to take money to closing. And that’s if it even sold. It’s been for sale for months and with the virus now? Not likely it’ll sell.
If they can cut down other expenses to stay put a few years, do some repairs/upgrades and get some equity and hope for a better market then they may be able to break even which is always better then loosing money. Realistically they wouldn’t qualify to buy a home again any time soon and Katie isn’t settling for some small little rental, and that’s only if they’d qualify to rent even. With their credit they might not even be able to rent.
If they sell the suburban and really keep themselves on a budget, work hard and consistently (and yes, I think they should both take second jobs if they’re insisting on paying big bucks for daycare still when this virus is over) they could make the mortgage payment. Is it ideal? No way. But it could financially be better in the long run then selling at a loss and having to get another loan to close.

Its only going to get worse for them. After all of this is over they will owe more on the mortgage and the house will be worth way less.
They should have sold it to the previous offer, gotten finance for balance and ran like the wind to the cheapest rental they could find. Kids out of daycare, sell the car. Done.

They tried to get a personal loan to cover the difference but it was denied. Which is why I think their credit is shot and any rental company that checks credit will deny them a rental too.Haulnarse wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 6:54 pm Its only going to get worse for them. Re: Cullen and Katie: Shifty eyes and constant lies | Part #25
In a recent video Cullen said they were having to choose between continuing the house showings and risk exposing their family, or missing another mortgage payment if they couldn't sell the house. They are either scraping the bottom of the barrel and draining any savings they have to cover the April and May mortgage payments, or I'm guessing the Corona virus emergency became leverage for someone to step in and offer to cover their mortgage. I highly doubt they are in a significantly better financial position all of a sudden. They vastly overpaid for a house they couldn't afford in the first place. Their income was already tanking before, so I can't imagine how bad it's going to be over the next several months.
They realized that they can't afford to get out from this mortgage because they don't have money to bring to close. Selling at a loss is never ideal, but they can't afford their monthly mortgage payment and therefore can't afford to stay put for years. They should consider a short sale at this point. Losing the equity in your home and having to bring money to closing is obviously a huge hit to have to take, but they wouldn't have kept the house on the market and continuously dropped the price if they could comfortable afford to live there. People don't go to these kind of extremes unless they don't have much of a choice. I'm thinking someone stepped in and offered to float them until there's no longer a public health emergency.
Frankly I'm surprised they didn't take a loan from Katie's parents to cover the $20k or so they would have needed in order to accept the recent offer and bring money to close. Perhaps her parents were not too keen on that, or Katie was too proud to ask, but if they're now on the hook for Katie and Cullen's mortgage until further notice (just a guess), that could be an even bigger mess. That house is not going to sell for anything close to what Katie and Cullen paid for it anytime soon. They're going to take a loss regardless. Now they're stuck with that house and the economy is taking an unprecedented hit. If they had cut their losses and found a way to take that offer, they wouldn't be paying crazy high interest on a huge mortgage and they wouldn't be paying to maintain that monstrosity. Move in with family if they have to until their credit rebounds a bit and they get some money in the bank.

They are just delaying the inevitable. They should have significantly lowered the price back in January to where it would have sold and gotten out ASAP.
The “peace” they are feeling today will not last and it will be ten times harder to sell once they put it back on the market. The financial position they are in will continue to deteriorate. I also have no idea why they feel the need to tell the kids they’ve taken the house off the market. That’s just giving them a false sense of hope and security.

Exactly. Can you imagine selling an over priced house after this?? Not gonna happen.mollybaby wrote:They are just delaying the inevitable. They should have significantly lowered the price back in January to where it would have sold and gotten out ASAP.

I think this situation is going to make people think more about finances in general and make it hard to sell after. We aren’t even being impacted financially (thankfully and knock on wood), but we are still taking a hard look at our finances and making some changes so that if this type of thing happens again and we are impacted, we would be better prepared. I bet many other people will do the same.
Re: Cullen and Katie: Shifty eyes and constant lies | Part #25
Their mistake was to listen to this realtor at first place. This house is very pretty, a bit outdated and has an odd layout but their furniture are CHEAP! People can't really see the house for what it it's with cheap couches, and decorations from Target, they should've invested in a professional decorator (those who brings everything and stage it). If they only stayed on the beach house for a couple of weeks and having a professional decorator I bet they would've sell that house in no time.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Shifty eyes and constant lies | Part #25
I agree they should have had the home professionally staged when they first put it on the market. I follow a small YouTube channel that had her home staged and it looked like a completely different house! C&K have such a tacky style and non of the styles match from room to room. I don't care how much they paid for that blue chair but it is hideous and tacky af.
The whole video was just all about how they never felt right about moving and this is their home and the kids love it and showing the house was so stressful.
It was interesting to me that Cullen mentioned renters being evicted from their homes during the pandemic and that being a fear they had. Here in Ohio our state government has put measure in place to make sure no one gets evicted and they have placed an order for previously turned off water to be turned on. I am surprised other states would not have similar measures in place. I think they are planning on utilizing some type of mortgage forgiveness because of the pandemic for the next few months.

They just talked in circles for 26 minutes trying to justify staying in the house. If they want to stay in the house they should just say that they have a handle on their spending now and they can afford to stay. It basically negates every video they've made over the past few months saying that the house is too much and too expensive and they can't afford the utilities and so on.
I'm pretty positive that they're getting help from somewhere.

Right! They just kept saying how this is the best thing and they can afford it. The whole time I was like sure, Jan. You can definitely tell that Cullen still realizes that the home is way to large for them and does not intend to stay indefinitely but Katie seems to want to stay. I also think their credit is shot and they may not be able to buy another home right now.ashmax21 wrote:They just talked in circles for 26 minutes trying to justify staying in the house.
