Same, I work in research not clinically but... April and Davey have a chore chart and I don't think it's perfect but Ruby could have just copied theirs!

There are plenty of online printables with text and pictures which have reasonable age 6 goals.

i.e. get dressed, make bed, get ready for bed when mum/ dad tells you (i.e. child independently changes to PJs, parent then supervises teeth and bedtime story/ prayers), clear plate from the table/ lay the table for dinner.

Everything else at 6 is based on doing what you are asked i.e. doing it the first time you are asked.

With things like school bags and coats you need to have a place where these go that are appropriate for your child's height (same with their closets!!). If you want everything hidden like a show home that doesn't really work...

I don't see how it's teaching Eve to love herself if Ruby boasts about how long it has been since she showered or that she hasn't brushed her teeth.

She is genius!!!!! No parent would ever think to do this. She should write a book on how to not be a victim mom, and do anything for her kids. By the way, nothing wrong with telling your kids to figure out something to do when they are bored, just the way she presents this in her vlog, she acts like she is so above to make her kids figure things out on their own, and it really isn't a big deal, except she does this for everything and does not want responsibility for anything her kids need.

In instances like that she seems like she truly thinks she has figured it all out and all other moms are stuck being victims because they have not risen above it like she has. When really, she's either doing totally obvious things that everyone else has always had figured out, or she's refusing to fulfill basic parental responsibilities that better parents ENJOY doing to care for their kids or at least understand is their responsibility as a parent who chose to bring those kids into the world. But she'll never ever understand any of that. She's too far above us all!

As soon as she saw Abby she said the hair was uneven and acted surprised/offended. Can you imagine getting your hair cut and your mom reacting like that? Why not at least first compliment it like saying the length is nice before getting all nitpicky and saying it's uneven? It WAS good for Shari's first haircut, and Shari kept checking in with Abby to make sure she liked it, and she did. Especially since there are tons of tutorials on YT showing how to do all of these things. I cut my daughter's hair, and thankfully she has lots of hair, and it's thick and very wavy. So it's forgiving.
But. In Shari's defense, isn't it true that Ruby doesn't let her kids go on Google? So it must be difficult to research things. It's pretty hypocritical of her. If, as she says, her church is the One True Faith, and superior to all others, why is she so afraid of her kids seeing other ideas? Obviously, it's too much to expect her to monitor her kids on Google, because that would probably make her a "victim mother". If she actually had to spend time with them and help them research whatever it is that they want to research, her head would probably explode.

Even professionals sometimes still mess up as it's a hard thing to learn. Plus, it seemed like it was something that Shari and Abby both realized was just for fun and didn't expect it to be perfect. Since they're in quarantine Abby will have plenty of time to grow it out or get it fixed once the salons open, so I didn't think it was bad that it was uneven. I did think Ruby's reaction was kind of mean. It was obvious the girls were just having fun with it and didn't care if it was perfect. Also, hasn't Ruby messed up her kids' hair and eyebrows before just because she didn't put in the effort to do it right, so who is she to judge? What she should have done was get off her butt, get the scissors and patiently and kindly show Shari how to fix it and how it make it even. It's obvious Shari wanted to learn and try her hand at hair cutting. Ruby should have stepped in at the end and showed her what she did wrong and how to do it better next time and made it a fun learning experience, instead of just judging from her desk.

I grew up in a large family and my mom cut our hair when we were younger (unless we were getting something major) and when we were older, we started cutting our own and each other’s. I would’ve been so discouraged if my mom reacted like that. It’s honestly a great skill to have! It just takes time and practice. I don’t know why Ruby, who clearly had more experience, isn’t offering to help and teach them.

My mom was pretty checked out in a lot of ways, largely due to the sheer amount of kids, but I’m still astonished by how checked out Ruby is! My mom had 3 kids of her own, but we ended up with custody of some of my cousins and two kids my older sister used to babysit (both of which were odd situations). My mom has been a mom with kids in school for 25+ years and she still manages to get up and help my youngest cousin (11) make sure her lunch is made and hair is fixed. The rest of us are independent, productive members of society that understand responsibility and consequences. I know that was a bit of a tangent, but I am seriously so baffled every single time this woman opens her mouth.

I think for a first time ever doing it, it was a decent job. You can't expect salon perfection on a first ever attempt. She repeatedly checked with Abby that she was happy. It's disappointing that Ruby sends out 'you're a failure' vibes to all her kids so regularly. She seems to judge them for not being able to magically do everything to the standard she wants, despite not bothering to help them. It's even more frustrating when we've seen her make similar mistakes and just laugh it off!
