Yeah, I also found it shocking that Kevin let out a surprised "WhAAt?!" When he found out Abbey was failing math, goes to show how really absent of a father he is. I'm in grade 12 now (senior year for Americans) and since I'm doing online school, my parents especially wanna know how things are going with my studies and such. The fact that Abbey is only 13 and her parents know close to nothing about how she's doing in school is upsetting, ESPECIALLY with the fact that we've now moved to an online schooling system which is so different from what most students are used to.Namm wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 10:21 amTrue, but you do realise who her father is. It's shameful they have a 13 year old who is literally failing math. How do so many of their kids fail classes? Both parents have the time and the resources to help their kids to do their best and they just don't. Of course the child has to take initiative but that doesn't mean without ANY support from their parents! Abby is a smart girl and could be succeeding.
Abby, Julie, and Olivia are cute together. I really hope they all have friends outside of the family too!!

There are some faiths (religions etc) that encourage you to ask questions because how else will you learn more about your faith if you don't? (if you choose to believe in a God). But Mormonism is obviously trying to do something else.ZzzCupcakes wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 7:49 amI was watching an older video of theirs where the family was walking to church and Ruby and Kevin were explaining they were Mormon. I can't imagine going through school and even adulthood without search engines. I think learning how to effectively google/search is an incredibly valuable skill, as is learning to critique sources of information.

That was exactly my point. The idea of being so terrified that your kids seeing anything that might cause them to ask questions is anathema to me. I would rather have my kids ask questions and be able to tell them why I believe as I do. But that's just me. I prefer my kids to feel comfortable asking me questions about things. I wonder what is going to happen with these people when they have a little freedom and are able to look things up. They live in such a bubble and everyone around them pretty much believes the same. I also wonder if that was Chad's big sin-- trying to look things up about their faith. The way Ruby was talking, maybe his immortal soul was in danger as far as she was concerned.ZzzCupcakes wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 7:49 amI was watching an older video of theirs where the family was walking to church and Ruby and Kevin were explaining they were Mormon. And a couple of things about Abby-- who gives their 13 year old daughter Command strips for a birthday present??? That's a horrible present. I've given my daughter fun beach towels as gifts before-- she loves Stitch. But bath towels are something parents should supply. But St. Jennifer gave her kids sheets and pots and pans for Christmas, way before they were ready to move out.
And how does Kevin not know that Abby is failing math? Didn't she have issues with math before? Or was it Julie? I remember one of them was having problems getting into the private school. I just can't imagine being so oblivious to my children's education. My kids' (or kidses, as the Griffiths would say) high school had a portal where we could monitor their grades, homework-- everything. I can't imagine their fancy private school doesn't have some kind of parent portal to keep track of things. But I guess the Frankes throw so much money at the school that they feel they shouldn't have to do anything. Besides, Abby is "just a girl". Who cares if she can't do quadratic equations? She just has to be able to attract a returning missionary and have babies.

I wonder if Abby might be the rebellious one. Shes always got this unimpressed expression and doesnt seem to care all that much. I dont think she has ever talked about her future kids or anything like that, even though shes "already" (in their bubble) 13emma2948 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 10:43 am I'm sorry, but was that actually Abbey's "birthday breakfast?" It was kind of a disappointment. And you could see that Abbey wasn't at all impressed with those nasty scrambled eggs, especially with the look she gave to Julie as she proceeded to eat them (Around the 2:31-2:39 mark). When is Ruby do gonna learn how to cook?

Ok, did anyone else lose brain cells when Ruby was going on about the eggshell membranes? I was multi-tasking while watching the vlog and when she started all her nonsense trying to articulate that an egg has a membrane, I just stopped and stared at her for a good minute, like, whaaaaat? She doesn't know that eggs have membranes and needs to spend a minute explaining it and vlogging it? She acted like she made a new discovery.
Also, Abby has a 16% percent in math. Yes, sometimes kids fail classes, but its not like her grade just magically sunk to 16% in a few days. Ruby purposefully waited until her birthday to bring it up and to take action. She should have been working with Abby long before it got to that point, instead of just mentioning it now. The kids all seemed to know what she was talking about like its been happening for awhile, so I don't know why she waited until the birthday to bring it up.
I don't think that the gifts were bad. As a reader, I know that books are very expensive nowadays, especially to get two full series like that. Those were pretty big gifts and the towles and hooks were weird, but I guess if she wanted them there's no harm there. Although, considering that she won't get a party because of quarantine, you'd think they'd do and spend a little extra to make up for that.

Ok, I don’t need to watch Kevin grinding up on his wife. And put your cloths on! Were are your garments BROTHER Franke? He’s always running around in his workout clothes. At least he came to the party dressed. And he can’t help his daughter with her math? He’s an engineer!
How delightful of Ruby to tell the world that her daughter is failing math. Really? She is such an awful mother. Wasn’t she making pancakes for Abby’s birthday breakfast? Where were they? Not on the plate.
And in my family we have towels (a necessity) for the whole family to use. You put them in your linen closet and people grab one when they need one, RUBY! What an idiot!
These poor kids. I really feel bad for them. They are being brought up by a woman who wants to have her own TV show and a father who loves himself to death. Shameful!

Cody turned 9 this month and Russell will be 9 in July.thenightowl wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 8:16 am Why aren't basic essentials given to these kids? I am glad to see that Abby got books, how old is Russell compared to Cody? He sure noticed that Cody put his "d" backwards so I wonder what his age difference is, I can't keep up lol.

Another teacher here and I agree. Assuming a young person doesn't have a disability (and there's nothing to suggest Abby does) a kid who has parents pushing them to ensure they work at home and get stuff done should never get such a low score.fossilfinger wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 10:17 amI used to teach fifth grade and it was really sad for me to hear both kids and their parents say they "just weren't good at" something and had basically decided, at age 10 or 11 years old, that failing that subject FOREVER was okay. No excuse for a phd professor engineer to have a child failing maths! She doesn’t need to be amazing but at her level math is still pretty basic!
I don’t believe Shari did the cake out of the goodness of her heart! She can barely breath if she is not the centre of attention in that family! Making the cake allowed her to shout out often stealing Abby’s moment!
She didn’t forget to scream out while Abby was opening gifts that one mat was Julie’s! Just be quiet for once it is not about you!!!!
Also I was shocked to see Abby’s body language when Ruby moves into her room. She keeps well away reaches out to take the plate then immediately moves back three steps away!
As for Kevin slobbering you can see it is all for the cam Ruby is dead behind the eyes while he is doing it, and his expression when his done is ‘to hell with this, not worth it!

I disagree about Shari - she and Abby seem to genuinely get on and so I think she would want to make her a cake.
All the older kids are wary of Ruby because they know she'll happily throw them under the bus for views.

And what I was saying is she needs to have one over everyone!
I don’t necessarily dislike Shari she is a child after all and has been loaded with a lot! However, she finds it difficult every-time someone else is complemented or gets attention in that family and needs to butt in and her behaviour towards Julie in the past has been nothing less than despicable!
They obviously do not care to be filmed of course and I agree with Ruby comment.
Re: 8 Passengers: Spreading a Disease while Doing As I Please | Part #16
I went from just passing by bringing my mark from like a 48% up to 50% in grade 10 to getting a 72% in grade 11 because the teacher actually wanted to make sure we got it and I was actually getting it so I continued wanting to do well. Nobody liked the teacher I had in grades 9-10 I would come home everyday and do homework and end up crying because I didn't get it but then my dad would get the right answer but not in the way we were taught. Funny thing is one of my family friends mom is an EA/TA at my school and even she said once that the teacher I had in grade 9/10 should never have been a teacher.fossilfinger wrote:I used to teach fifth grade and it was really sad for me to hear both kids and their parents say they "just weren't good at" something and had basically decided, at age 10 or 11 years old, that failing that subject FOREVER was okay. I was more screwed over by the fact that teachers in my elementary school didn't feel like sitting down with me and catching me up to the grade of math I was supposed to be so they just put me on the grade level below me. If I remember correctly I was basically thrown in to high school math without doing grade 8 stuff. It was either that or a skipped 6th grade and skipped right to 6th.
I do sometimes wonder if I had a learning disability related to math (like dyslexia) and that's what made it so hard for me for so long.

Why is everyone acting like this is the first time Abby is failing math? Remember when the kids were first applying for the private school Ruby let the cat out of the bag that Abby was failing school (math specifically) and that she didn’t do well on the math portion of the entrance exam for the private school and wasn’t accepted right away. That’s at least what I remember happening.
Not to mention, it doesn’t help that Ruby keeps throwing away all of their homework.
To be honest, I cannot believe a school wouldn’t call a parent when a student has that low of a grade; absolutely unacceptable. You simply fail a class when you don’t do well on tests and exams. You only get that low of a grade when you do absolutely nothing AND fail the tests and exams.

I mentioned it upthread. It makes it even worse that she's failing AGAIN, in the same subject. They know she struggles with math, but just don't seem to care. Like I said, she's "just a girl". You don't need advanced math skills to pop out babies. Disclaimer: I don't believe that. But the Griffiths sure seem to.Lolislol26 wrote:Why is everyone acting like this is the first time Abby is failing math? I find it extremely sad that necessities are given as birthday gifts. Even more sad that one of those gifts is actually for a sibling and not the receiver. I remember feeling bad for Shari too when she got pillows.

Why does Abby even have grubby worn out towels? While Ruby buys expensive clothing? Is this sth from their church to keep children with the bare minimum so the can be humble and grateful! If that method was used by gran Griff then it obviously doesn’t work judging by how desperate the sisters are to spend money on junk! It obviously had the opposite effect! Still can’t get over multiple shoes but kids get staples!!!!

Recently rewatched a Shari Franke vlog where Shari, Kelsey, and Abbey get ready for their valentine's dates (Feb, 18, 2019). I thought it was a bit of a weird idea at first because no one I know does this (especially with their parents joining them). But then I remembered that they are Mormon, and this is probably how they find suitable people for their sons/daughters to marry into lmao. It just reminded just how much her parents want Shari's future to pan out... just like Ruby's. Go to college, find a good Mormon husband, have tons of babies, and become a housewife.Happy+Charlie wrote: ↑Thu Apr 23, 2020 11:02 amBecause in her family, that is what you do. (Someone said before on this forum that Shari is gonna be burnt out from having to take care of her siblings and will be so done by the time she has kids and I'm wondering if that will happen, cause then I'll feel absolutely awful for Shari's kids)
In her vlog of making macaroons, she literally says, "Maybe at my wedding, I'll have macarons instead of cake." This is like her 28363829 time she's mentioned she's gonna have kids and a family (a bit of an exaggeration but you get the point). Seriously though, for Shari, what is her obsession with getting married and having kids? No offense but there is a life outside of having a family.

It doesn't look like Shari's life is going to pan out like her moms. Looking at other mormon YouTube kids, they collaborated and maintain relationships through their parents to build a future. She seems difficult and I think that her parents will have to marry her off to someone if college doesn't ground her and change her attitude.emma2948 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 3:27 pmRecently rewatched a Shari Franke vlog where Shari, Kelsey, and Abbey get ready for their valentine's dates (Feb, 18, 2019). Ruby knows how close it is, she is already talking about her grandchildren.emma2948 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 23, 2020 10:03 am You guys might not care and that's cool, but Shari always talks about how she's gonna have a family and have kids, and that's cool if that's what she really wants, but I feel like she only really wants kids and a family because she wants to please her mom.

The body languages are a common theme. I wonder how Ruby is behind the cameras. It's like they don't recognize this loving woman when she pops up on camera.
But all the children love to hug their dad. There's a vlog from last year where Abbie sits next to her dad an snuggles with him at that age, that's love. I've seen Julie do that as well and Russel too. But it gets awkward with Ruby.
I wonder if any of the Griffiths sisters even like children?
