It's so weird how they do that! It's definitely a mormon thing because of their emphasis on marriage and family, but I think it's also a more general youtube family thing to exploit the kids starting to date for views and interesting content. Which is so disturbing if you think about it. Even from a very young age I see these families obsess over the kids having crushes at school and wanting to know every detail about it. My (American) family was never like that at all. I think it really instills an unhealthy focus on these things from a young age, putting so much pressure on KIDS to date or constantly have crushes (on the opposite gender only, of course *eye roll*).emma2948 wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 12:19 pm Also I don't know if this is more of a cultural(American) and/or Mormon thing, but why is Ruby and Kevin so obsessed with their kids dating? My parents (they are Indian) and they've always been way more focused on me doing well in school first before "dating." Of course they find it important I have friends, but they think that my attention (as a student) should be more focused on my school work rather then getting a boyfriend. I've seen a lot of other American youtubers who seem to also always put their friends/boyfriends/girlfriends first before their school work which is concerning to me, cause while school isn't everything, it still is very important. I think the fact that Chad wants to wait until college to start dating shows a sense of maturity that Ruby and Kevin do not have.

Today on Rubys Instagram she complained about always being disappointed by mother's day. And today was no different, no one made her breakfast and she complained until she got it. Hmm maybe this says something about your parenting. My mom would be happy if I gave her a cheap handmade gift, and I'm 27. But because of this I try to bless her as much as I can. If your children, and husband, are not celebrating you the way you want that's more of a reflection on you then them. Sheesh, this woman is going to have no relationship with her kids when they are adults.

It's definitely a Mormon thing. All the Mormon vlogs seem to be obsessed with their kids love life. They believe you can only start dating at sixteen and should be married young. About 18 to early twenties. Most BYU students graduate and are either engaged or married. The LDS church wants, well actually more demands you start having kids.emma2948 wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 12:19 pm Also I don't know if this is more of a cultural(American) and/or Mormon thing, but why is Ruby and Kevin so obsessed with their kids dating? She rarely ever makes breakfast for her kids, now she expects them to make her breakfast? Anyways, Shari posted a nice message to her on Instagram, the kids took a photo with her and even got all dressed up for it, she had a bouquet of flowers in the picture which one of them probably gifted her, and I'm sure they all gave her little homemade gifts or something like that, since they're all good kids. Her post is just more of her entitlement and attention seeking again. I highly doubt that her kids all ignored her or didn't do anything special for her, she just wants to point out the one thing she didn't get to try to make herself seem like the long-suffering, victim mother she thinks she is.chrisb332 wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 1:09 pm Today on Rubys Instagram she complained about always being disappointed by mother's day. Wow, this is unbelievable that she would complain about this on social media. What a whiny baby. Also, Shari posted on her stories them making themselves cereal and didn’t have milk, just like ruby said they ran out of milk in her post. So is she angry over not being prepared... a bowl of cereal? And she acted like she’s the only one who went without milk (boohoo) but so did the others. Jeez she is dramatic and entitled, I wouldn’t want to celebrate her either.rulatows000 wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 2:00 pmShe rarely ever makes breakfast for her kids, now she expects them to make her breakfast? Maybe I’m overthinking it, but Chads comments about not wanting Ruby or Shari to drive him on dates makes me assume that either Chad has been told he won’t be allowed to get his license, or he won’t be allowed access to a car if he does get his license. If this is true how can Ruby justify taking that privilege away from Chad almost a year before it even happens? What could this child have possibly done to have almost everything taken away from him and truly never given the chance for redemption?

Do they require a chaperone when they begin dating? Maybe he wouldn't qualify to test for license yet, even at 16. In our state, you can apply for your learner's permit once you turn 16, and you can attempt your test for license at 16 1/2. I know a neighboring state, you get learners about 5 months before you turn 16, so that when you turn 16, you can test for license.Audrey3196 wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 4:39 pm Maybe I’m overthinking it, but Chads comments about not wanting Ruby or Shari to drive him on dates makes me assume that either Chad has been told he won’t be allowed to get his license, or he won’t be allowed access to a car if he does get his license. Chad is smart, he knows if he has any like/love interest, Ruby will be all over while he is at home, no say in what part of his life is share-- no respect! He'll wait for college so he can keep it private--GO CHAD!
This whole vlog was aimed at Chad, I hope he was paid accordingly.

Shari got her permit the minute she turned 15. It's possible Chad can't get it because of the lockdown, but I think it's more likely that he won't be allowed to drive at all. They're so damn controlling and nosy. Shari herself said "you can't hide anything in this family". Mormon teens almost always date in groups.Happy+Charlie wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 4:28 amDo they require a chaperone when they begin dating? Gosh, Ruby must be feeling generous. She's allowed Julie to debut Chad's short haircut on her vlog today. Kind of a corny vlog--Prom 2020.

Re: 8 Passengers: Spreading a Disease while Doing As I Please | Part #16
It's absolutely a YT thing to focus on teen relationships before school. The Leblancs (Bratayley) did it BIG with "Hannie", Annie's first relationship, which was a setup, and they were all coy about whether or not they were actually a couple, so kids would watch obsessively for any sign that "Hannie is real!". They had articles in teen magazines about them. Katie, the mom would pin the posters up in their LA apartment. And giving your teenage kids a ship name like they're Brad and Angelina, is just bizarre. I don't like ship names even for celebrities, because they aren't one person. And for teenagers who are still figuring out their identity to have it publicly wrapped up in a relationship has got to be weird.
The Mormon Youtubers are really weird about it, because they will exploit relationships, doing "boyfriend" and "crush" videos, when the kids are under 16 and technically not allowed to date. So, they can't date, but they can have a boyfriend or girlfriend if it gets views? No, that's not confusing at all...

Well..that was weird. On Julie deru vlog they were forcing Emma to wear lipgloss to look pretty for Russell...who is her COUSIN! I think I’m going to throw up. It was a prom dance thing...family prom. WTF?!
Re: 8 Passengers: Spreading a Disease while Doing As I Please | Part #16
Speaking of that vlog, do you think that the kids willingly took part in it or were forced to do it for their parents sake? I bet Ruby dooby do (and her sister Julie) are both running out of ideas and that 'Prom 2020' is the best that they could come up with.Happy+Charlie wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 6:23 am Gosh, Ruby must be feeling generous. Absolutely. They tried to make it about Shari since her Prom didn't happen. However, I don't think she had her prom dress on (maybe that was it?) They needed a reason to tell Emma to look pretty for Russell. That was an uncomfortable moment.emma2948 wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 7:23 amSpeaking of that vlog, do you think that the kids willingly took part in it or were forced to do it for their parents sake? Re: 8 Passengers: Spreading a Disease while Doing As I Please | Part #16
That whole video was kind of uncomfortable. Trying to get Emma to wear lipgloss for Russell was the strangest. I think having a family prom would've been cute and having Shari do a daddy-daughter dance and dancing with her brothers and sisters, having family fun. It was just weird that their cousins showed up and seemed to take over the prom. Shari mostly seemed to be standing off to the side, along with the Julie and Abby, looking uncomfortable. They did seem to loosen up and dance around with the younger cousins a bit, but I don't think those three really enjoyed it and were probably coerced into it. Also, what is with Kevin and his kilt all the time? I highly doubt he wears it to celebrate his heritage, seems like he just throws it on every now and then when he wants attention.Happy+Charlie wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 8:10 amAbsolutely. Re: 8 Passengers: Spreading a Disease while Doing As I Please | Part #16
Totally agree that whole Prom vlog is very awkward. The coupling up of the cousins and then they barely even mention Shari, even though it was supposed to be for her? It seemed way more like an excuse to make a vlog than to actually do something nice for Shari, which is sad.

Now I have seen it all....a weeks worth of chores to earn access to a toilet. It is officially time for a psych eval.
