I’ll acknowledge that it is a good first step for Ellie to acknowledge her privilege, but I would have liked her to do so without whining about the comments in the same breath. It makes it about her. I’ve been seeing a lot of influencers do this and it’s frustrating.

The thing is that as HS said, Ellie has a history of reacting one way, then seeing what everyone else says/how they react, then deleting her first take on the subject and posting something more empathetic. IF she really means what she said, then that's good, but I also agree that she shouldn't have said anything about "mean" comments. She considers even constructive criticism to be "mean". The whole "I can't help where I was brought up" line is particularly disingenuous for her, because she has had multiple opportunities to travel outside of Utah, but she takes her bubble with her.
And did any of the Griffiths say anything before the situation became so intense? Because it was all over social media (we know the Griffiths girls don't watch news)before any protests happened.

Your comparison conveniently disregards the first post Ellie made and the one she deleted though. It was a picture perfect picture of her and Tommy. She also apparently posted a tone deaf vlog they later deleted.

If Bonnie deleted her first post, read here about what she “should have done” and then posted it too then she’d be doing the same as Ellie. She has also shared the resources so...

Ellie didn’t get anything. She didn’t try at first either. She missed the mark just as her sister (and mother and other family/friends) did. She changed her reaction based on feedback and what others have done just as she always does. And it doesn’t sound like she’s the one wanting to educate the kids, it sounds to me like Jared is. But ok. Ellie bought a book and Bonnie didn’t. She sucks a fraction less if that will make you feel better. Still the least she can do.

Let’s not forget.... Ellie is the person who has a great day on the day her aunt dies. She laughs watching a friend’s traumatic birth and says it was “hilarious.” She never has appropriate reactions herself. The fact that she later “edits” her initial reaction doesn’t make it genuine. So yeah, they both suck because they both come from the same shallow place.

I think a lot of the defence of Ellie is coming from a place of wanting to make Bonnie worse. That, or people don’t realize how often historically Ellie (or let’s face it.... Jared) has changed her edit.

To be clear, this is not about an Ellie vs. Bonnie argument. I am pointing out the difference between what "not racist" and "anti-racist" work on an influencer platform looks like. If you're unfamiliar with the difference between the two, I implore you to do the homework. They are VERY different, and both Griffiths sisters showed textbook examples of each. 

I'm not entirely sure what the backstory about Ellie's aunt passing has to do with using her platform to do with anti-racist work, other than finding ways to poke holes in her integrity, but it's clear that you have an agenda to hold each sister to different standards. You like Bonnie. You hate Ellie. We get it. That's OKAY! But please, please, de-center yourself from this particular situation. Do not use your personal biases toward each sister to espouse "whataboutism" during a very important movement.

Talk about poking holes in integrity.

Sorry, I have to laugh at this. If anyone ever says anything remotely positive about Ellie, you can *always* count on a HelloSweetie post right after with the same old list of arguments of why Ellie can do no right and/or accusing others of giving her a pass. HS you spent years defending Bonnie and when her true colors were revealed, the narrative switched to “but Joel is bad too”. You can claim you dislike them equally but your posts tell a very different story. It gets pretty old and very predictable.

We can all dislike Bonnie and Ellie to our own varying degrees and can all decide for ourselves if we think one is worse than the other and those opinions can change on the situation. Not every situation must be made into a Bonnie vs. Ellie argument either.

On a totally different note, there's so much wrong with this IG post. First of all, WHY is it necessary for the whole world to know that Tommy "said poop", and she is starting potty training? We all know it's mostly so she can banish him to the basement with his brothers and she can go to bed when she gets pregnant.
And jeez-- think she's tagged enough companies in this picture? "Swipe up so that Jared doesn't have to get a real job! Because even though I'm TTC, I can't be bothered with the kids I already have!"

This isn't the first time a POC has been murdered by police brutality, yet E+J have done virtually nothing to collaborate with people of other races or ethnicities. When you have such a large platform, you have a responsibility to show diversity and educate others.

I'm exhausted by the people defending Ellie in her comments, telling her that she didn't deserve online criticism. She continued to post after her blackout Tuesday post to make posts about HER. After she received criticism for her original post, she wouldn't read the comments on the subsequent post because people "want to fight" poor, meek Ellie when they were simply trying to educate.

A black man was murdered by police. It's not about the struggle of being a suburban, married, cis white woman on the internet.

Ellie doesn't get anything outside of her bubble. She had to address the death of George Floyd and racial inequality out of fear of receiving backlash had she said nothing. I sense no authenticity here.

Yep. It’s always about Ellie. She has the audacity to play the victim in this discussion when there is very real victim.

I do believe Jared is trying. There’s so much more they could do without making it about them. They have a huge following on social media.

This is hilarious to me. I’ve called out Bonnie many times, I just think people forget about Joel too. I do the same on other boards. The main YTer in a couple is always the one that gets the primary criticism while the other tends to be victimized. It’s just what happens in an attempt to be more critical of the main YTer. People are only triggered when Ellie gets brought up because of my history. Thing is, I’m very aware of this trigger and am rarely the one that starts it. I comment if I feel the comparison isn’t fair, but I do this both directions and have defended Ellie as well. People just don’t notice until it’s something they don’t like. On all the Griffith boards Bonnie gets brought up. Look at any of Ohnonotme’s posts! She’s the first to call me out if I make a comparison, but can’t help but do the same herself. I do t recall if you do it Tiger, but many regulars can’t.

I don’t like ANY of the Griffiths and think it’s ridiculous that I can’t give an opinion without having the deflection that I used to stand up for Bonnie thrown in there. I would use Ruby as a reference but I don’t follow her. I have watched Ellie for YEARS though, and used to be a huge fan.... bigger than I ever was of Bonnie. She changed, so my opinion did.... just as it did of Bonnie and Joel.

Returning to this issue....Bonnie and Ellie had the same empty reaction to this issue initially. If you were outraged by Bonnie’s posts and they weren’t good enough, then the “hate” Ellie received about hers that caused this pity party was likely justified. That’s what I’ve been saying and I don’t get how Ellie is being defended.

Poor Ellie as always I guess.

Be one of the Griffiths. If it doesn't affect them, it's just background noise.
Hasn't Bonnie even quoted "The Help"? That "You is smart, you is kind, you is important" quote?
Or did she not actually watch the movie and absorb anything about it? Maybe she's just seen the meme, or is too oblivious to realize that the bus boycott was a big part of the film.
Not saying that she should get her civil rights education from a film.

Sorry, but these YouTube and Instagram “influencers” are such a joke. The fact that Ellie and Bonnie feel they are on par in importance and productivity to one of the many large businesses or corporations that have issued “heartfelt” messages and responses is ridiculous. They either need to keep quiet and carry on with their droll lives or have the conviction to support whatever beliefs and stances they have, no matter what they are. This is just as lame as the Ruby/Chic Fil A debacle.

I fear Ellie is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Her life as she knew it is over. Youtube has tanked. Bollie has tanked. Health wise, she and Jared both are struggling. Jared probably needs to get a 9-5 job and Ellie needs to get back to cutting hair but pride is standing in the way.

She really does not look well. Her lips always look so tight and have a grey undertone. She has giant dark circles (partially because of very deep set eyes that all the Griffiths girls have.)

I don’t think she’d be successful doing hair anymore. It’s been like 7 years since she worked in a salon? She probably needs to take a ton of continuing education and learn new techniques. She seems better than Bonnie but none of them are great. She really only does the one hairstyle on all the boys and Jared.

YES! The world has known about George Floyd's death for what, 10 days? But they don't speak out until the Tuesday after most of the protests. They are only saying something to prevent backlash.

The bar is so low for these Utah white women. Post a photo of one book about race you bought to read to your children who have probably only interacted with 2 or 3 black people in their lives and your job is done. This is why there are still ignorant people in this country who have no idea what its like to live as a black person and so shocked when people actually start speaking up about these issues.
