Oh and I forgot to mention, having Mimi move in with them is the worst idea. They’re taking up a good portion of the houses when Jess’s priority needs to be on her kids having enough space. Again, if they had bought their own land and truly designed their own home, they could’ve made enough space for Mimi but that isn’t what they did. Mimi should’ve just bought a small house a few minutes away from Jess’s neighborhood.

The only things I like about the house are the big bathtub in the master bathroom and the kitchen. By the time the get all their crap moved into that house there's going to be hardly any room. Is it normal for livingrooms in California to be such after thoughts? I thought their living room in their old house was small but this one is smaller than the closet in the master bedroom!

Living rooms in CA new homes can be like hers.... smaller to fit a dining room, study, etc. or they can have one big Great Room, where the living area, kitchen, and eating area are all together in one open space. Those are awesome and I’m surprised she didn’t opt for that! But of course not: the ding-dong again makes an impulsive decision.

My son bought a house (an hour south of her) similar to her downstairs plan. And his in-laws just bought a new house, from the same builder as hers, with a Great Room. So after looking at models with him, it seems there are those two options, if not more.

that house looks so cheap. the walls, the carpet everywhere, and the little prison windows. also, the kids bedrooms are so small! but of course the master area is huge. mimi and glen will be there part time, and there’s a kitchenette taking up space that could be a kids bedroom or something. they should have done a truly custom house because that layout is weird, it looks cheap, and all the rooms messs thinks she will use are bigger than the ones that need more room

Someone mentioned Tommy & Caden being "separated" from everyone in their room, but I think they will just be glad they actually have a space where they have a slight chance of getting quiet time. And personally I don't understand what it is with people in US and bathrooms Where I live it is normal for families to have as much as 12 kids, and I have never heard anyone having more than two bathrooms (like, one with shower and one without, don't know exact terms for these). My friend has 10 siblings, and not once has she mentioned anything about needing more bathrooms. I mean, you can do your hair and that kind of stuff in your room too? But this might just be another cultural thing so don't get offended folks! What I find a bit gross is walking inside with shoes on - and floors having carpeting! Won't that get so nasty like... right away?

No offense at all. I’m an American living near San Francisco. We bought what we could afford. 1100 square feet with three bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths (A bathroom with just a toilet and a sink is called a “half bath” here.) We raised 3 boys just fine. Never an issue using the shower/bathtub, etc. You simply wait your turn. They chose to all sleep in one bedroom and they made the other room the “toy room”. We’re still in that house, just the two of us.

And where I live in the Bay Area, we have many Asian cultures: their shoes stay outside. No shoes on while in the house.

Did I count wrong, or was there only 1 full bath for the kids to use? Then the full bath in the en suite, the master bath, and the half bath downstairs... they couldn't put in a bathroom in one of the bedrooms? Like, Lilia's and give up a tiny bit of the loft "kids area"? Or made the half bath a full bath? I am just thinking, when all those kids are teenagers... the fighting for the bathroom is going to be insane. Glad I don't live there. lol

I am sure they will come up with something that works... Mimis area has a full bathroom and if she isnt there full time, kdis could use it or shower in the parents bathroom and use the half baths to get ready in (hair, makeup etc)

Man that house has loads of wasted space. Their walk in closet and en-suite could have been so much smaller (and still plenty big enough) and they could have had space for another bedroom upstairs

Half the upstairs is their “suite”. Even the kids bathroom (for 7 kids!) is so incredibly tiny. They really could have done with another bathroom. Also downstairs for tommy and caden a full bath, even just with a toilet, vanity and shower.

The space by the garage that won’t get used for shoes and jackets cos their garage doesnt get used for cars. Even mimi’s suite is poorly designed. No microwave, fridge or oven? Or room for them. Or a dishwasher drawer. And the weird over head cupboards at different heights over the sink - is she gonna bash her head when she does dishes?


They’d have been far better off not building a spec house and actually working with an architect to design and draw something that works for them. No amount of bedrooms or bathrooms is going to be enough. But designing a house with jack n jill bathrooms between kids bedrooms would have been a far better option.

Where there dining table is going id have assumed that should have been reversed with the “lounge” a tiny living space downstairs at the end of a kitchen. Its weird. Loads of wasted living space with the “study” - shouldn’t that be a formal dining area or even just the dining area to allow for two living areas off the kitchen?

I dunno the whole layout is off.

They should have made another bedroom upstairs with that extra space for Tommy and Caden and made the room by the front door a kids playroom/hangout, their kids are old enough that they dont have a massive amount of toys so it could be more of a game room, plus they have that "study" where Im sure Addie could have a corner for her barbie house etc... I hate the idea of a bedroom right beside the front door. Its the reason I hate the layout of Kristen Kaspers home so much. It just makes me nervous. I love the idea of a flex space upstairs but for their family another bedroom would have been more useful.

I think the house is nice. It’s a long way from scooby and her living with Mimi and all the kids. I don’t agree with basically anything she does but this is a positive. Is it perfect? No.. but it’s an improvement. Every move they make is an improvement.

I agree. And it’s in a nice area. On our way to Tahoe, we drove on the freeway yesterday past her development. I saw there are nice shopping centers nearby, parks, etc., along with lots of farmland still. If she keeps her head screwed on and settles down a bit, the family could do well where she now lives.

WHY did this have to be public? I would be MORTIFIED if my mother posted this for everyone I knew to see. This should just be a mother and daughter thing. I thought she couldn't shock me anymore but I am just stunned that she'd include this. This poor child. Her privacy is being sold, and we can't assume everyone is watching innocently.

re: wearing shoes in the house

in canada, it’s considered a canadian-ism - a way to tell canadians from americans. canadians will not wear shoes in the house. i was raised this way and to me it’s really unnatural and gross to wear shoes inside. you have no idea what you step on or what has been on what you step on. especially for this family they need to get some slippers. messs doesn’t clean, i’m sure the shoes aren’t cleaned, and those kids surely lay and play on the floor. if they touch the floor, they probably wouldn’t think to wash their hands. and then boom, you ingested traces of dog shit or something. don’t know, just very foreign and seems rude and counterproductive cause you’ll have to clean way more!

The latest is the mom and stepdad will live there on weekends and summer and that they’re buying a small house in Modesto.
So it seems the parents changed their mind somewhere along the way. Their jobs are in Modesto still. (A few months ago Jesss said her mom had an interview at a school near the new house, so it seems she couldn’t get hired right now.) And/or maybe they both realized they do not want to live with the craziness but the house was already being built.

while i agree with a lot of the criticisms over the house that people have, we need to realized that they really didn’t have THAT much control over these things. They chose an already existing floor plan, and then were given a list of upgrades they could make.
I think have a smaller master suite, and maybe having room for another bedroom would be nice, but thats was not an option.

One bathroom between 7 kids!!??! sure it’s fine at the moment but give it 3 years and over 50% of their children will be teens/tweens and spending a lot more time and effort on their appearance and in the bathroom. That’s going to be a nightmare and cause a lot of arguments.

Also, not to be rude. But the bathrooms are so basic and cheap looking. I’d expect a new build to feel a lot more luxurious, her bathrooms she redid at her old place look a lot nicer and of higher quality, these bathrooms are a downgrade

Can you imagine 3-5 teenagers trying to get ready in the morning with just that one tiny bathroom. And they’re always late already, this about to be a shit show. You know Princess Lilia will try to hog that bathroom every morning for like an hour.

It’s gonna be an entire mess. At least at the old house there were two sinks in the bathroom but now there’s only one which is so not functional for 7 kids. They really should have put another sink in there instead of the big countertop space.

Thats when you turn around and walk out and find a builder and/or architect that are willing to make changes and/or build you a perfect home vs a “quick build”.

That house went up far too quickly for my liking. Hubby is a builder, hes been on a project since November for a similar floor area but on one level and they are still 2-3 months from completion. High standard, high spec.

Its like britney and babys house. Totally unpractical for their needs, yet it was completed in <5 months ready for them to move in. All the “upgrades” they have done since has devalued their home big time.

Especially for a "forever" home I think she should have went with custom. Even floor plans online a builder can take things from and customize.

The thing is Jess doesn't think about the kids at all. Its all about her. I understand being excited for a house but the way she was bouncing around on that video. Its about her. Her house. I agree that their master closet will be Scooby's gaming closet, although they have an office.

As far as T & C she never thought about them in the Modesto house so why would she with this one? She didn't even have a bed, not even an air mattress for them. They are the last she cares about. This move wasn't to make it easier (them flying in). This move wasn't about her Grammy (has she even mentioned her, seems she used her for the GFM & stopped). This move was all about Jess.

I still don't see Mimi there on weekends, summer. She camps most of the summer and I'm sure will have her errands and things on the weekend. She is probably just telling Jess that not to cause issues. If that will be her suite I would think they would keep it locked, I mean would you want Jess kids going through your stuff? So it is a wasted space.
