Well, in the Western United States everything is far apart. It's literally no big deal to drive that far there. I grew up in Portland and my grandmother lived in Southern Oregon. That's about a five hour drive and it's wasn't a big deal to do the trip. It's basically the same for them if they moved to St. George.
They also drive all the time anyway. All those trips from Logan to SLC?? They do that trip at least once a week. That's at least 100 miles each way.
I don't think it's so odd because everything is really spread apart in those states. It's 100% not like Toronto or the NE parts of the United States. Not at all.
