Well, in the Western United States everything is far apart. It's literally no big deal to drive that far there. I grew up in Portland and my grandmother lived in Southern Oregon. That's about a five hour drive and it's wasn't a big deal to do the trip. It's basically the same for them if they moved to St. George.

They also drive all the time anyway. All those trips from Logan to SLC?? They do that trip at least once a week. That's at least 100 miles each way.

I don't think it's so odd because everything is really spread apart in those states. It's 100% not like Toronto or the NE parts of the United States. Not at all.

Toronto is a city. Parts of Ontario are absolutely spread out like they are in Utah.

LA is only a few hours from San Diego, and I have absolutely no desire to do that drive.
We used to live in Washington state on an island. To get to Seattle, or even just go to Target, we had to either drive north, go over a couple of bridges and then drive back south, or take a ferry. It was a huge pain, especially with small kids.
With the little ones and likely another one on the way, it is going to be a big ordeal to visit family. When Ellie gets what she wants and gets pregnant, and takes to her bed, Jared is going to be pretty much on his own with the boys.
They are definitely not moving to "get away from toxic family". Ellie doesn't think her family is toxic. They're moving because Ellie has decided that this is the next thing that is going to finally make her happy, and somehow keeps convincing Jared that whatever it is, is going to finally be the thing to fix what is wrong. Because chasing one thing after another is easier for Ellie than doing the work to change herself so that she doesn't constantly need something outside herself to make her happy. What she is doing now is called a "geographical escape". And when the novelty wears off and she realizes that she is still her same miserable self,she will obsess over something else.
But that's just my opinion, obviously.

Nobody is saying they HAVE to live by family, especially with technology these days it is easier to probably not live near family but remain close. For most people it is doable.

What people are saying is about Ellie doing this. Especially if she has a 4th on the way. She makes everything all about her, so is mommy & daddy, Bonnie & Joel going to drop everything for her to go to her? That's what she is planning on. I really think this move is for attention from her family. Like in her head she is going to show them that she can do it on her own so they continue to baby her. I also agree its to get Jared away from his family. If you time it to when Matt & Emily moved back to Utah its their timeline of when ellie decided this.

I know that there is different weather in the same state, even just a few hours away (I grew up in the mountains and could never figure out why going to town was so much warmer as a kid). But the way they are talking its not just a "few hours"

Ellie isn’t having them move to get away from her family, she’s likely doing it to get Jared away from his family.

A five hour drive is huge. To go see family there needs to be a plan and it either takes up a weekend or an entire day. 10 hours of driving round trip. Like I said, we have family three hours away and it’s always a big deal when we need to go there for family events. There isn’t the ability to just schedule a trip around other things you have going on that day. It’s asinine to argue 5 hours isn’t that different from the hour long drive to SLC.

We live 4 hrs away from family and it is not a drive I want to make frequently. That’s 4hrs for just my husband and me, if we added in kids that would add additional time for stops. We usually stop one time for food or gas. We are thankful for technology that allows for FaceTime bc trips are infrequent. Basically they come to our house 2 times a year and we go there 2-3 times a year.

Let alone think to just pop in the car and go visit!

People are different, half my family lives 1.5 hours away from us and many times we have just popped in, even this weekend we went there and back on Friday and will do it again today. It is important for my son to have a strong relationship with that side of the family too.

It's obvious that Jared is super close to his Dad. His saying goodbye was so sad. And Ellie did not care one bit.
They are obviously in a toxic narcisstic relationship. If Jared was the narc, people would feel incredible sympathy for Ellie. Because he's a man, people aren't as bothered.
She's doing the classic narcisstist thing of getting their partner away from anyone they care about.
Jared annoys me (not on a B Lanning level though) but I still feel incredibly sorry for him.

But you're not Ellie. The only thing important to Ellie is Ellie, and her whim of the moment.
She can't even get downstairs to take care of her own children. She isn't going to schlep 5-6 hours just so her sons can have a relationship with family.

1.5 hrs is way different than 5. A round trip drive takes 3 hrs then. Add in a 2-3 hr visit and you still have half your day. 5 hours is a commitment. Jared can’t just tell Ellie he’s heading out to see his dad. He’d be leaving her alone all day. That will never happen. They’ll be back to seeing Jared’s parents once or twice a year like they used to.

Jared will be selling the Tesla next so Ellie can upgrade their vehicle. They won’t be able to drive it when they have 4 kids anyway (they never should have been driving it with the 3 littles since proper safety seats won’t all fit).

I agree, but they can’t face the shame of downgrading/downsizing to a different house in the same city. So their cover is moving to a “warmer climate” 6 hours away.

They are among other YouTubers who lived beyond their means and felt vlogging=money would last longer. We watched them all spend on homes, landscaping, cars, trips, campers and everyday life that was very expensive. It is going to be a change since Ellie's IG story showed vertical blinds that makes me believe this place is older.

Wow. If they’re moving just to preserve their egos, I feel really badly for those kids.

The voyeur in me wants to believe there’s some juicy Griffiths drama to blame or that Jared is caught up in some Grindr scandal or they’ve been ostracized from their ward, but it’s probably just a boring combo of financial troubles and perhaps Jared landed a low-profile job in one of the towns mentioned. They’re such delusional narcissists they think they are semi-celebrities as opposed to barely visible internet fodder.

Ellie’s pics on IG show that the boys are just as thin and sallow as she is. They all need proper nutrition.

I get that kids can just be small naturally (my youngest is!), but this is just different. They have very little muscle tone for as active as they are, and their colouring isn’t healthy either.

A move is stressful for the older two older boys because they'll miss their grandparents, cousins, schools and the neighborhood kids. I bet the kids will also miss the hot tub, unsafe trampoline, swing set, and other custom children areas of their former home.

Ellie: I laughed out loud when Tommy ate Jared’s food during the dinner prayer. These kids might be hungry.

How is YouTube not their main income/job. No matter how she likes to spin it, it is. She doesn’t get sponsorships just for no reason. Also this is the response because someone asked where they moved to and why it was a secret. Obviously it’s for content.

Typical Ellie deflection. People can’t even ask her a simple question without her getting defensive and spinning it for sympathy.

She definitely moved because she hated having Jared’s family close enough to interfere. I feel bad if she’s had death threats, but let’s be real here.... she’s still going to vlog where they’ve moved to and exploit their privacy for monetary gain. This is like when she didn’t want people to use her kids’ image by having fan IG accounts and she said to “respect their privacy,” only to then start using those accounts herself.
