I really hope her dad doesn’t know about her channel. He seems to want a relationship and keeps in contact. Maybe not often but at least he checks up on his kids. That’s way more than what a “dead beat Dad” would do. I got the feeling that they are separated from their dad because of what their Mother had told them all these years. He seems to be married and living his life. Odd about the several phone thing... I’ve had the same phone number forever so I don’t get that.

Then in the video she says it's been 16 years since she saw him but he calls her every 6 months. Sorry if this is nitpicky but those are two completely different things imo. The title was very misleading.

And side note but the dark af grey on the batten board is awful. They could've done some beautiful colours like blue or green, even muted it'd look so much better. It's just dark and dull and boring.

I don’t think she’s telling the truth one bit about her Dad. She’s in contact with him.. she just refuses to see him in person. He makes attempts which is a heck of a lot more than a true dead beat dad does.

There’s obviously a lot more to the story of her Dad that we don’t and will never know and I’m not going to judge a situation that I know very little about... BUT after a few bored searches on Facebook I can see that Rachelle don’t seem to be involved with many of the Chaves side of the family. Her own grandmother was very ill with dementia and may have recently passed away?? She has loads of cousins that she’s never mentioned?? I dunno it’s weird but like I said, I don’t know enough about it and also don’t come from a “broken” home for lack of better words so I don’t know what happens with distant relatives after a split. It’s just sad that she isn’t part of these people’s lives, who has nothing to do with that her father did or didn’t do.

Rachelles dad - id be suing her arse so bad. Shes using her personal feelings (likely her mothers since she admits she was 9 when she last saw him, a 9yr old doesnt know to hold a grudge. Im guessing her mom had somewhat brainwashed her against her dad. He might have cheated or ran off with someone else. But lets not forget her mother’s bazillion marriages)

I mean that doesn't necessarily mean an anything. You could have the worst relationship possible with a parent and still be FB friends with them, it's a complicated situation. FB friends or not, it's not proof of anything.

Yeah as someone who does have a very strained relationship with many family members, this doesn't seem strange to me. I have found people with normal, loving family members, have a hard time understanding how things can be if there's a bad relationship with a family member. They can't understand (and rightly so! Because they come from loving, non dysfunctional families) how you can have family members that you don't see or talk to or keep in touch with.

I have family I straight up don't talk to, ever. I also have family I share some life info with, and I have family I'm really close to. It all depends. Rachelle's situation doesn't seem out of there ordinary to me. I mean, exploitative, but that's everything she does, so

It's still possible to not be close to extended family even when you are close with your parents, maybe your parents have poor relationships with their parents/siblings/nieces/nephews and never exposed you to that part of the family.

But still it's fairly common for you to not be close with extended family after one patent splits, regardless of the dynamics of that relationship. If you were close before then obviously you have a higher chance of staying in contact and seeing them, but if not then it's pretty uncommon to suddenly start working on those relationships after your parents have divorced. Even less likely if one parent has moved away and barely talks to you. They're not going to care that you continue to have a relationship with cousins etc if they don't even care that THEY have a relationship with you.

And I feel like if you're an adult when it all goes down then you have more personal responsibility and can make your own decisions. But if you're a kid, which Rachelle was, it's obviously less so. You rely on your parents at that age to help you build family relationships, and if you don't have that then it's much harder to change later on in life, even if you want to.

Just btw, it's a little taboo to say "broken family". I might get hate for saying that but I do think it's important not to spread the idea that children of divorced/absent parents come from broken homes. For example a parent could be an abusive alcoholic and the other parent is doing the best thing for the kids by divorcing and keeping the kids away. That way the kids are given a safe and loving environment and it's much less broken than it would be if divorce never happened. They can still be a loving, thriving family without one of the parents. Sometimes having an intact family is much worse for everybody involved, and this idea of "broken families" can both stop people from making the right decision (leaving an abusive partner for example) and also make kids feel like there's something wrong with them/their upbringing.
