I know Shari definitely does because she goes to the private Mormon school, but since Chad goes to public school (and maybe just home school now) maybe he doesn’t have to? Just a random thought I had. Sending him to that wilderness camp was probably the worst move if Ruby was trying to make him more pious/religious. That entire time he was gone would’ve been a long break from the daily church indoctrination for teenagers.

What I gather from other Mormon vlogger channels, the public schools in Utah offer seminary before normal classes. Even the ones in Texas public school went to seminary before class. If Chad isn't going, it is because he is refusing.

Regarding Anasazi, they made him carry the bible/BOM through the dessert without so much as a backpack. Based on the complaints of non-Mormon counselors, I wouldn't be surprised if they also had informal meetings on Sundays under someones tarp to discuss scripture. I know the Brat Camps that are not in the dessert, take the kids to an actual church on Sundays. I doubt he got a break, and if anything, may have become acutely aware of the additional physical burden of being forced to carry his parents beliefs.

Is it my imagination or are they not really talking about preparing Chad for a mission?

CognitiveDissonance wrote: Mon Aug 03, 2020 12:58 am I tend to give Shari a massive break when it comes to her behavior. For so many years, especially in the beginning videos you could see Shari and Ruby just clashing/rubbing each other the wrong way. It really seemed like Shari wanted nothing to do with her mom. Shari seemed like she was hungry all the time and always just as assumed child caregiver for Ruby. Regardless if her grades are not perfect A's, I do believe that she is the smartest one in the house (yes including Kevin).

I think we don't see her "boyfriend" or "school friends" any more is that she flat out refuses to play that game with Ruby. She used to give her mom some footage of her evenings out, but that stopped before the move. I think Shari is full into her exercise addiction that she can share with her dad away from the house.

If Ruby chooses to homeschool but doesn't put Shari back into private school for her senior year, I can see her enrolling herself at the local high school. She's not about to get trapped into Ruby's Flower's in the Attic: Homeschool 2020 bc she will end up as primary teacher and she does not have the patience for that. Ruby needs to help Russell with his reading and Ruby needs to get Abby caught up with math. It would be nice to see Kevin participate, but I don't see that happening. This is Not Shari's responsibility. This family has resources more than most.
I agree with you that Shari is the smartest in the house. I am an Engineer and hearing Kevin speak makes me cringe every time. Unless he was letting the experiment fail to help Shari learn, that bridge building vlog provided a terrifying insight into Kevin's innate understanding of simple trusses (or lack thereof). Ruby actively works against them in their education, so it is a huge credit to Shari that she has been the only kid in the house to not fall below grade level.

I also agree that Shari is too smart to be trapped in Ruby's Flower's in the Attic: Homeschool 2020 (awesome name, can we make this the next thread title?). I still have hope Kevin will participate in the homeschool with tutoring after work at minimum. I am in this weird place with Kevin. I find him to be awful, but after watching tons of old footage it is clear that when he was around (which isn't enough), he was often spending the time with his kids. We just never saw as much footage of it because Ruby was the one with the camera at home, and Kevin was shuttling the kids around.

When it was only Shari and Chad at the private school, Kevin was the one driving them up before work, and then picking up from activities after work. When he couldn't fit the long school commute in anymore, Ruby still refused to drive them, choosing to sleep in with Eve every day and hire a driver. He was always coming home with surprise pizzas as if he had known Ruby would fail to feed the kids dinner yet again. He would bring Chad to the sport's bar for his birthday, or Abby to harp camp weekend, buying her a new outfit when she forgot to pack a dress. He didn't even make her pay for it. I still haven't figured out when Kevin abandoned the one-on-one time though, as neither parent seems to make an effort now.

I guess public schools in Utah are different than elsewhere. When I went to Seminary with my best friend in high school, (no I'm not Mormon, don't ask me why I went-- suffice it to say I was a good friend and my going made it bearable for my BFF), we went at the local ward, not school.

I'm sure she would've kick him out if he wasn't attending seminary

I know they talk about some aunts and uncle but I've never seen any cousins around their age or at reunions they talk so fondly of.
I’ve been thinking about this. I get the impression that the Griffiths bunch sort of use extended family for “childhood memories” and to have this picturesque family life. But then they are expected to ditch all that and give their own new immediate family 100% of their focus when they get married and have kids. It’s kind of like how they all say that Christmas Day is for just their immediate family, that’s their ultimate focus and nobody else actually matters except to have childhood memories to talk about later in life. I definitely think for example Julie and Abby are expected to be best friends forever above anyone else, and Olivia is cute as their childhood friend but in the end their mother expects them to be each other’s lifelong #1 (until marriage when they get kicked down a notch!)

Ruby complains about Chad calling out her “dam/damn” jokes, but if Chad was making those jokes she would be all over him for swearing.

Why are the Griffith adults so dam creepy all the time? Does Landon really have to be running around in a speedo in front of all the kids? And then the women all commenting how everyone went silent and took their cameras out. Like, seriously, what is with these Mormon male vloggers and wearing speedos. I'm pretty sure Kevin has worn one before and so has Davey Orgill. I'm not religious at all, but I really don't think speedos are appropriate in a public setting or when kids are around, you can literally see everything. It's just so weird, there's no reason why they should be wearing those especially when I thought Mormons were so concerned with modesty and humility. Also, was it Joel who literally grabbed Russell's wrist and took a huge a bite of his Hostess cupcake? What the hell? I would be totally grossed out if my Uncle took a bite of my cupcake without it being offered to him and literally took a bite of it from my hand. I hope they at least gave Russell another cupcake.

The ending of this vlog-greatest ever!!!! Chad turned Ruby's little life coaching stuff right back on her! Kevin and Ruby were acting like school age kids with the whole deal-well all the adults really, but especially his parents.

I can’t find it, but a while ago I watched a old video and they were spending time with Olivia and talked about their relationship and then either Abby or Julie said something along the lines of “we didn’t even know we were cousins when we met”. I was so confused because it sounded like the families had not been talking to each other for some time. I can’t find the video, maybe anyone remembers?

I can confirm that this was said in a video, but I thought it was more recent? I can't find it now. I assumed that the families had not been close, and possibly reunited to build their vlogging empire. There is another video where Bonnie and Ellie admit to being mean and awful to Ruby's kids, because they didn't have any yet and basically thought kids were annoying.

Does anyone remember the vlog where Abby comes home from staying with a family member (does she have an Aunt on Kevin's side?) and was so excited to tell her mom how they had breakfast and she was allowed to eat as much as she wanted?

I remember how a lot of people have mentioned on here how entrenched this family is in traditional gender roles. They were right. Russell comes in wearing a pink blanket and Ruby says "Tell me what's wrong with this picture? What doesn't belong?" Is she seriously that old fashioned that she thinks boys can't wear pink? If she isn't even okay with her boy wearing pink then imagine what her REAL ideals are on things like the LGBTQ, Black Lives Matter etc.

This is also the family that the kids have said "out parents have never told us what sexuality to have" or something along those lines in a q&a video. This pink blanket deal isn't that surprising unfortunately. They probably are under the nothing that a boy liking pink must mean that he's gay.

How funny! Julie posted a picture of "Reunion2020" and someone commented, didn't you all just have a reunion on a camping trip. Julie replies that that was just a quickly planned trip, this is the yearly reunion we have that we plan a year ahead. A reunion means you have been reunited, typically after a long period of time being apart. Why not call it the Griffith Summer Gathering.

I mostly like to read here but I thought I'd add my thoughts on the pink blanket...I didn't think anything about gender. I thought why's the kid wrapped in a "dam" fur blanket? Normally you'd have a bunch of towels around when spending the day swimming... so when you get out of the water you have something to wrap yourself in... did they even bother to bring any? Wouldn't be surprised if they just brought one to share with the whole family. Image

As much as I hate these people, I still hate-watch every single video. But even I am totally uninterested in watching videos about some dumb day where their entire family ignores there's a pandemic that I've seen 3 times already in her siblings' videos weeks ago. Ruby thinks she's pulling a fast one over everyone by posting videos a month late but it's so glaringly obvious and really stupid.

I do remember one vlog where Bonnie took Ruby's girls out to dinner. Julie was horrified that Bonnie ordered her food and made her share with someone. Bonnie just laughed (of course). What a strange group when it comes to food.

More bad Ruby parenting. Showing a patch of sunburned skin on Eve's face then laughingly admitting she didn't make certain to apply suncreen properly. Then she told Eve to just bring flip flops for a hiking trip in the Jackson Hole area. I'm usually down on Shari, but in this case she had the common sense to bring along a pair of sturdy shoes for Eve that are more appropriate for hiking.

What is known about Kevin's family?

I think his dad was married and had children (half siblings) before marrying his mom. He might be their only child. Ruby rarely visits or talk about her in-laws. They mention them 2-3 times a year. I'm sure Ruby wouldn't like it if her future DIL's negate their husband's side of the family.

This year is the in-laws Thanksgiving year, so maybe they'll finally be invited over.

Ruby posts her continuous bitterness about her supposed tempest but limits any response!!!! She has preached for years earn your choices!!! How much of the tempest she solely caused, will she ever take responsibility for? If ever!? Give it a break Ruby the kids every look at you shows what a parent you have been! You can’t buy genuine affection with luxuries! That shipped sailed for you because of you dysfunctional behavior! Earn it and apologize to your children and hope they will want to have any relationship with you later!

After observing this clan for a few years, it does seem the girls stick with their side, once married. Meaning, if Julie, Abby, Shari and Eve marry and do not decide to kick Ruby to the curb, she would maintain them in her fold and their husbands will follow suit. Chad and Russell will gravitate to their wife's family.
