Phil and Alex: Struggling With Maternity After Laboring For Eternity | Part 10
Could she sit any further away from her baby? Why is that baby not held whilst being fed? Like ever. Phil is there, if Alex is expressing, Phil could hold her. If baby was able to BF she would be held every single feed. Why is this okay?!

Re: Phil and Alex: Struggling With Maternity After Laboring For Eternity | Part 10
Sorry, should have been more clear. My point was that the list Alex shares of "symptoms" are all things that can occur with breastfeeding- low supply, oversupply, sore nipples, etc. It was basically just a long list of every issue one can have while breastfeeding, and from my experience they most often ocurr in the first few weeks and get better on their own as supply regulates. Babies with tongue ties can still breastfeed just fine, and sometimes babies get it corrected and still can't. It's such a gamble, and no definitive answer. As someone else upthread shared from their personal experience, she was given a relatively small chance of the procedure improving breastfeeding, and large chance that it would re-attach.nicolefrost wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 8:45 amActually they can be symptoms. Your baby is not able to pull the right amount of milk which leads to low milk supply and engorgment because the breasts aren’t being emptied. My son has a slight lip and tongue tie all my lactation consultants pushed for it to get clipped because he had trouble latching on one side. Well I went and they couldn’t because he has a clotting disorder like his brothers so we just found ways to make it work for us. 11 months and still EBF. I agree that they are over diagnosed for sureHashtagBlessed wrote:Good grief, Alex should really wait to "educate others" until she knows for certain if the procedures from the dentist has any affect on her feeding and weight gain.
The frenulum frenzy in recent years is probably a result of the emphasis on breastfeeding above all else. It's a controversial diagnosis. It's actually more widely "diagnosed" by lactation consultants, not pediatricians, who then push parents to seek out a frenotomy from pediatric dentists. So I think running with this diagnosis is right up Alex's alley. I'm not sure I follow the line of thinking that assumes a dentist is an expert on breastfeeding, but Alex is going to grab on to any diagnosis at this point.
Most pediatricians don't believe tongue-tie is frequently associated with feeding problems or speech difficulties. Some babies do need it corrected, but it requires further evaluation beyond a consult with a dentist. One of her top comments on that Instagram post is from a lactation consultant claiming that she specifically tells her clients NOT to see a pediatrician about it and blamed folic acid for the the rise in diagnosis. (To date, there is no published research demonstrating a link between folic acid in prenatals and tongue-tie. In fact, a 2018 study of folic acid and oral findings in newborns found no link.) Alex, and her community of “I wish more doctors were EDUCATED” don't care about peer reviewed research, as long as they feel it in their gut.
This is a snippet from a NY Times article from 2019 titled, Is Tongue-Tie Surgery Necessary for Breastfeeding Success?:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/16/pare ... rgery.html"The study, which was published on Thursday in JAMA Otolaryngology — Head & Neck Surgery, examined 115 infants who had been referred to Massachusetts Eye and Ear in Boston for tongue or lip-tie procedures after having difficulty breastfeeding. The babies, who were between 19 and 56 days old, had been diagnosed with tongue-tie by pediatricians or lactation consultants.
Before receiving a surgical consultation, the babies were evaluated by speech and language pathologists who assessed the infants’ feeding history, oral musculature and range of motion of the tongue, among other factors. They also observed the infants during a feeding to identify potential anatomical problems. The researchers found that nearly 63 percent of the infants did not need the surgery after all, and that their feeding issues stemmed from other problems like low milk supply, reflux or shallow latching. The mothers were then counseled on strategies to help improve each of these issues."
And that list of symptoms Alex shared...so both engorgement and low milk supply are symptoms of having a baby with a tongue tie? Kind of sounds like BS.

This fugly color does nothing for Cassie. What ever happened to dressing your babies in vibrant colors that look great on the baby??
What awful tastes! Well at least she doesn’t have the ugly colors on the other two.

Gosh phils insta stories of alex “playing” with the girls was hard to watch. Shes soooo aggressive. I had to flip to the next slide.
She’s clearly not a “get on the floor and play mom”

Re: Phil and Alex: Struggling With Maternity After Laboring For Eternity | Part 10
I was so frustrated by how often she pulled her mask down during that appointment. Just leave it! She couldn't even be bothered to pull it back up when someone entered the room and started talking to her.
Re: Phil and Alex: Struggling With Maternity After Laboring For Eternity | Part 10
I know we only saw a snippet, but the fact that Alex’s “playing” is basically telling the kids off for getting out of the closet, is really sad. Kinsley was looking at her like she didn’t know if she was in trouble or if they were still playing. That’s telling.Haulnarse wrote:Gosh phils insta stories of alex “playing” with the girls was hard to watch. Shes soooo aggressive. I had to flip to the next slide.

So I apologize if I’m mistaken but did Alex have her shoes off at doctor’s appointment when she was talking quietly with mask hanging to side about how ticked she is about the tongue ties? If so Um YUK! And then sweet little Kinsley in bed by her mom and poor Cassidy’s neck jerked around because Kinsley’s just a little girl trying to hold Cassidy and all Alex is focused on is getting her dang phone answered. Geesh! Her and her “sleep” too.

Re: Phil and Alex: Struggling With Maternity After Laboring For Eternity | Part 10
Alex is a psycho. Frenectomies are extremely painful. They literally hold the baby down, do the procedure without anesthesia or pain meds, the baby is terrified and in pain, then they have to go through traumatic mouth exercises for weeks that continually break open the incision so it doesn’t glue itself back together. I regret ever having it done for my son. I did it for the wrong reasons, just like Alex. A lactation consultant recommended it because we struggled with nursing. I tried to force nursing so hard because everyone kept telling me I had to, that breast is best, that it is imperative for bonding, etc. My son and I were so much happier and bonded so much better when I switched to pumping and bottle feeding. It saddens me to see Alex going down that road, although, I realized it at 4 weeks postpartum. I wasn’t trying to force it on a 2-3 month old on a feeding tube.

The one good thing I’ll say about todays vlog is how freaking sweet Kinsley is. She is just such a nurturing, well mannered girl and they do not deserve her. Did anyone notice how visibly pissed Alex for when Phil would tell her to put her mask on.. Alex the nurse is having to be told to wear her damn mask smh. And as a mom whose baby also had this.. Cassidy clearly has torticollis. That combined with the delays that come with her cardiac problems and hospital visits and very clear lack of tummy time or any developmental play she’s going to need some serious PT and ot.. do you think she’ll get it? I think not

Why does the baby never seem to get a quiet, comfortable, private place to sleep? They let her sleep anywhere and everywhere and it pisses me off.
Alex, hold your baby while she feeds, then put her down to sleep in a crib or a bassinet, it’s really not that hard

Re: Phil and Alex: Struggling With Maternity After Laboring For Eternity | Part 10
This video was hard to watch, honestly. I audibly gasped and got mama nervous when Kinsley was holding the baby and reached for Alex’s phone.
And poor Cassidy just can’t catch a break. I felt horrible watching the lactation consultants feel around in her mouth. She obviously wasn’t a fan, and to think they then took her in a back room and lasered all in there. My heart hurt.
Does anyone else notice that Alex gets a shit eating smirk on her face when things goes sour for the baby? She was all smiles the day Cassidy got her feeding tube and all smiley as Phil was describing how much pain the baby was in from the surgery. Wtf
I never felt this way before, but this whole scenario makes me sad for Cassidy. I’m sorry she was born into this world with the shitty mother she has.

Alex will be happier than a pig in shit when baby unicorn ends up with a head helmet to fix the flat head from always being in the bouncer, high chair, car seat, or on her back on the floor. Get a damn Boppy from MarketPlace cheep, throw it in the wash, and give that baby some tummy time. But we know they won't get her the help she'll need for the torticollis and other issue that will follow from all of this.Tiredofspoiledbrats wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 5:31 pm The one good thing I’ll say about todays vlog is how freaking sweet Kinsley is. Exactly!!! And even if you do all those exercises perfectly they still can reattach. I’m absolutely not an advocate of any of this. This was horrifying to watch!

I'm so sorry you went through that! Don't be too hard on yourself, it is absolutely over diagnosed and pushed by lactation consultants, who bypass the real experts, almost always ensuring you never get a thorough consultation and a chance to hear the real pros/cons. I think if most people saw the actual research, they'd opt out.boredonthekeyboard wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 5:20 pm Alex is a psycho. Frenectomies are extremely painful. As a former NICU nurse, it's appalling to me that Alex completely ignores the science and the research. At this point I think she enjoys diagnosing that poor child with everything under the sun. She treats and handles that baby like a speciciman.

Hmmm what kind of schooling does a lactation consultant have vs a dr. I would *think* a dr would know a heck of a lot more than a mere lactation consultant as far as lip/tongue ties. A dr knows anatomy what is normal and what is abnormal.
Maybe I’m wrong here... but I would side with a dr over a lactation consultant on this topic.

In Canada LCs are registered nurses with an additional certification. My mom was one. She said she caught a lot of ties that were initially missed. Some of them don’t cause issues with latching until the baby grows a bit.
