I'm really concerned Cassidy will have long term effects from this, if she survives. And I'm worried about Kinsley and Callie too. They're already ignoring Callie's hips, what if something else comes up?
Alex definitely has NPD, but this combined with the crunchy shit is a dangerous combination. I grew up with a crunchy NPD mother. She often denied me medical treatment when I really needed it. Nearly died twice, my poor dad had to fight her to get her to give in and let me go to the hospital. I nearly died from treatable infections because she thought antibiotics were truely evil. One got so bad I am dealing with disability 10 years later. She also forced me to go through painful and expensive alternative therapies that did nothing, and even made things worse occassionally. These things have long-term impacts. Not just physically but psychologically.
The reason my mum never wanted me to have antibiotics, western medical intervention or vaccines was because she thought she knew best (better than all the doctors), and she wouldn't budge. In her mind, giving in and letting me get antibiotics world have symbolised a personal failure to her. She didn't want to look/feel bad for letting me have "toxic" medications, she had this idea that if she could cure me with natural remedies she'd be a saint of a mother. It's a superiority thing.
I see this shit in Alex too, 100%. I'm in therapy now trying to heal from my upbringing. I hope the girls can all access therapy when/if they need it. Even better, I hope Alex can change her ways. Unfortunately, people with NPD rarely change.
What’s sad is every single person I know who denied modern medicine had an early demise. I LOVE my herbal supplements and essential oils but man alive I love modern medicine more!
Oh totally, don't get me wrong there are parts of alternative medicine that I really like. There's a time and a place for it though and you have to know when it's time for western medicine. And it's definitely not ok to just do nothing and wait things out when you're dealing with something serious, like what Alex is doing. Withholding or delaying necessary medical treatment for your sick child is neglectful and abusive. As a parent it's your responsibility to know the limits of "wait and see", and go and get a doctor's opinion. Maybe the first doctor made suggestions that don't sound right, so getting a second opinion is ok. But you gotta do something.
Natural remedies work wonders on certain things. But there's other things that really require immediate attention by western/modern medical doctors.
It's not even like Alex is clueless. She's a NICU nurse ffs. She should know better!!! Either she doesn't know and she was a dangerously incompetent nurse, or she does know and she's just choosing to not get her baby the help she needs.
She better cut this shit out asap, help Cassey, and never do this again. She better get it together before Cassey starts forming memories. I remember begging my mum to take me to the hospital when I was in really really bad shape one night, it was obvious I needed help asap, but she just wanted to wait and see. I couldn't fucking believe it, but I was too young to do anything but rely on her. I wouldn't wish that on anybody, you rely on your parents for this shit and when it goes wrong you just end up believing that you're not worth the trouble, or you don't deserve the most basic help. Once I grew up and saw how my mother was supposed to act in those situations, I really started to resent my mum, which I'm still deeply sad about. So Alex has that to look forward to, unless she makes a change. That goes for all her kids.
